Bladder gone crazy

#1

Hey all, need some insight… been on Keto about 9 weeks , lost 17 lbs. considering that I am 63 and post menopausal I am pretty happy with that. My question is regarding nighttime urination , I am up between 4 and 6 times during the night to pee, and I pee a lot . I sleep pretty well between these bladder-calls, but this is getting old. Is there anything I can do to lessen this? I pee a lot during the day, but don’t think it is quite as much …

I’d likely try to limit your water consumption to a cut-off about 3 hours before you go to bed - that way most of it should be processed by your kidneys and gone before you retire for the night.
Try to keep water in front of you during the day and you’ll get your hydration in before that.
Also (my own experience - don’t know if you have a bunch of weight to lose) - but I’ve found I have a lot more bladder capacity now that I’ve lost weight (less fat pushing in on it). I can go a lot longer between urinations now.

Keto acts as a diuretic, but getting up during the night is extremely irritating, especially that many times. Any bladder discomfort? Keto has basically healed my constant bladder spasms and decreased how often I need to go. Cutting down on evening fluids is a good idea. Do you have ketostix? Do they have other tests on them besides ketones? Do you have any leukocytes( white blood cells) or nitrites, blood or protein in your urine?

Thanks for your reply; I am going to cut way back on my water in the evening and even cut back during the day. I will update this post in a few days with whether that worked for me. Thanks again

As far as I know, none of those in my urine. Beginning to think I just drink too much water. I will keep you updated. Thanks for the reply!

Are you taking enough salt?

Personally I noticed that when I upped my salt intake my water consumption went down is that a normal thing with keto? I’m about 10 weeks in and loving it

I don’t know how many responders are ‘old,’ but at age 77, I have to ‘go’ 2-3x each night. My doctors tell me this is normal as we age. I’ve tried limiting fluids in the late afternoon, but it seems to make no difference. It’s annoying, but since I’m long retired, I can take a nap mid-morning to get sufficient sleep.
