One of the things I love about keto is that it’s very easy for me to just maintain my weight, not gaining, when I go through periods of stress, travel, or just wanting to eat more delicious keto food. I’m now in one of those losing streaks where I’m only eating lunch, and making it count. The key for me seems to be time of day. If I eat at night I won’t lose weight. So, I’m happy to report I’m on day 3 of this pattern and seeing great results again. IF realy works for me when the window is small and it stops around 3pm. After that, just water.
Back on a losing streak!
I remember from the podcasts you mention that you aren’t really focused on losing, does that mean you are “lazy keto”, just track less or what? Unless I am making something new I never really count anymore, stay under 20 carbs and my body just seems to take care of the rest.
Correct. I dont count anything. I just pay attention to how foods and timing affect me. Back in May (I think) I figured out that eating only lunch was really good for me. But it’s hard to keep up with: dinners you must attend, obligations, etc. But I’m fat adapted. That gives me the option to coast when I need to. When I have an opportunity I can focus on weight loss, and then stop when I have to. It’s really the ultimate flexibility, and for that I am grateful.
Wish I could make this schedule work for me, at least for a while. But family dinner means if I have one meal a day it will be dinner, and frequently pretty late.
@larry, I think there is a psychological perspective to this as well. The fact that you sit down with family to have dinner, have conversations, create memories, grow stronger bonds, etc…is probably doing a lot more good than theoretical optimal timing of eating based on circadian rhythm.
I liked you idea that you shared on the Julie podcast of making your meal a late lunch around 3:00 that way it was more like a family dinner. This works well for me on weekends when I’m doing things with family🛶
I stopped eating today at 3:30,and honestly I feel better when my cut off is between 3-4. I have eat this way for a week. Before I would stop at around 5 ish. I just knowtice in the evening I don’t feel so weighed down, and still have enough energy to not want to snack. I am liking this. Problem for me is I have not broke thru a plateau of 2 months. I was hoping changing times and IF would work…guess I must wait a little longer. We shall see.
Good for you Carl on finding your bodies rythum to food.
Today I ate 1 pound of chuck roast cooked sous vide at 136 F for 48 hours seared in hot cast iron with 3tbsp of melted butter over it. Also had a garden salad with crumbled bacon and 2/3 cup of Chart House blue cheese dressing, and about 3oz of Port Salut cheese.
Sounds pretty damn great Carl.
I think I may give a single meal a tryout shortly !
It would be difficult if I were hungry, but I’m not. I’m usually done eating by 1 or 2 pm and that’s it. Not even very hungry for lunch the next day, and I eat to keep it that way.
I am kind of the same currently, and would love to try this out.
My hold back is that I have a 1-1/2 year old that I look forward to seeing and eating dinner with after work, so for the time being the experience is worth more to me than the loss.
I am practicing sitting down at the table and not eating - drinking tea, instead - and not making the others feel uncomfortable. I guess if I could master that practice I could do anything.
