With avocado’s being a great fat resource that I don’t prefer to eat plain, I’m looking for some good 1-3 ingredient ideas to spruce it up. What’s you’re favorite?
Avocado ideas
Salt and pepper. I never used to like Avocado AT ALL. But deep fried it and then added salt and pepper: yum. Now I have it raw with salt and pepper and I actually like it.
Garlic salt. Sprinkled on top or mashed with avocado.
I also love to sprinkle on furikake (Japanese condiment of dried seaweed and various seasonings) but trying to find one that’s sugar-free.
I like to mash up a ripe avocado and then add canned tuna. I use the avocado in place of mayonnaise.
Avocado. sliced, fried in butter, add in a few sliced mushrooms, Add to eggs & cheese to make an omelette.
Today I dipped pecans halves into mashed avocado. {keto chips and dip} hehe
I like to add tuna salad or chicken salad on top of the avocado.
I slather it on slices.
Fried eggs/Bacon/Avocado slices = perfect breakfast, lunch or dinner!
Has anyone tried the larger Florida avocado? From what I have researched, gram for gram the Florida avocado has more insoluble:soluble fiber ratio than the California Hass avocado, so if you are counting total carbs. this is better.
oh man, i can just guzzle avos on their own (with a bit of salt/pepper and a splash of lemon juice) by the tree full
slices on plate with heavy salt and pepper and squeeze of lemon or lime is my regular for everything…
I get fancy with sardines, tuna, salmon, eggs, ham or chicken for salads…
Diced cubes in the egg scramble near the end! Hot sauce!
I do not like any avocados except Haas. Florida and other varieties taste vaguely sweet and kind of like saliva to me (sorry, but they do!). I love the nutty flavor of a perfectly ripe Haas. I get ticked off at Trader Joe’s because my husband keeps bringing home those bags of 4 supposedly Haas avocados. First, they are very often NOT Haas, and secondly they go from rock hard to rotten without stopping in between to be ripe. They are no great bargain if we buy them simply to compost them. I’d rather pay a bundle for one good ripe or almost ripe Haas.
If you put the avocados in the fridge the ripening effect will come to a stand still. Granted you leave them in there too long they will eventually get a little weird, but I have had them last double digit days…

I find that even 1/2 an avocado causes bloating. Anyone else experience this?
Since I am very insulin sensitive, I think that I must count total carbs rather than net, thus avocados are out.
@kate, my guess is that the bloating is caused in your large intestine.
Avocado has a pretty high fibre content. The fibre by passes digestion in your small intestine, and then ends up in your large intestine, where it becomes food for the biota there.
Have you experienced same or similar with other high fibre foods?
