Atkins bars

(Annette) #1

I really fancy a little Atkins chocolate bar. How much is possible without stalling weight loss?

(Ron) #2

As long as you keep your net carbs at 20g or lower for the day you are good to go. If I remember they have around 4 carbs per bar so one or 2 a day still leaves a carb allowance for other things during the days diet.

(Annette) #3

Yep the most important thing is to factor in the greens. Dr Berg says don’t count those though.

(Ron) #4

You might research that a little more because carbs are carbs. The advantage about greens is some of those carbs (but not all) are fiber and you don’t count those as your liver doesn’t metabolize them, but the other calories in greens you do have to count.

I tried them but found that the artificial sweeteners didn’t agree with my body. Not the carbs or anything. Just felt weird when I had some do now if I want chocolate I just get dark chocolate. I find the ones with almonds to be lowest carb and as it’s dark and rich you only need a square

You’d be better off fighting the craving and defeating the addiction to sweet things altogether.

Keto is also about ingredients and those atkins bars are just a s*&%t storm of chemicals. If you are craving chocolate, a much better choice would be say a Lilys chocolate bar, a 90% dark chocolate bar, or in the forums here, search for chocolate under the recipes section and you will find a lot of great, easy , keto chocolate recipes.

(Michelle) #8

I agree with @Shortstuff about just not giving in. Also with @Sheri_Knauer about eating something real if you need chocolate.

(Meg ) #9

I find these sorts of bars really don’t help with sugar cravings and often feeds the addiction so you crave more! I tend to eat a small piece of dark chocolate (the 100% stuff is great) and just eat it really slowly.
We sell so many protein bars in the UK often branded as ‘low carb’ or ‘sugar free’. Often packed with sweeteners such as maltitol which I’m aware can affect blood sugars. So expensive as well!

Also, the Atkins bars use sugar alcohols so they subtract the sugar alcohols from the carbs to come up with the net carb value. Some sugar alcohols are processed by the body and can raise blood glucose levels.

(less is more, more or less) #11

I empathize. I had an extra box a couple of months ago, in my office drawer, from before I went on Keto. I enjoyed exactly one a day, and experienced no problems. However, knowing my addictive personality, I decided that was it, and haven’t had one since.

Dr. Ken Berry is not a fan of current Atkins products at 11:53, here, on “Weight Loss Stalls” he says;

“if it says Atkins because we all look up to and respect Dr. Atkins, he was one of the very first leaders of the low carb community but now there’s a corporation selling products under his name and they use malt at all and it absolutely will stall your weight loss it’ll raise your insulin level"

IMHO anything that’s produced by a large branded company is way more about making money for the company than it is about the lives and health of the people the products are aimed at. Obviously there are some companies that care more than others, but absolutely none of them would exist without the potential to make money.

(Annette) #13

Are there any UK retailers of Lilys?

(Allie) #14

Amazon

(Annette) #15

I count them on my fitness pal. I guess for Dr Berg the greens are so important they should be free.

(Hoteski) #16

Try velvet edition by green and blacks chocolate… they sell them in Waitrose. The almond dark chocolate is the lowest in carbs 19.6 net carbs per 100g and the whole thing is 90g so even if you splurged and had half a bar you’d still have 10g of arbs left for other foods. I’d say one or two squares is more than enough to satisfy your cravings. At 2g carbs per square you can safely have it knowing it won’t kick you out of ketosis .

(Brian) #17

I tried a few of those Atkins goodies when I first started. Way overpriced for tiny and disappointing morsels of stuff I didn’t feel good about eating.

Make your own, it’s not that hard.

(Annette) #18

Yes wouldn’t that be wonderful.

(Annette) #19

Can’t find Lily’s on UK Amazon.

Tescos 85% chocolate is 15g sugar per 100g. ÂŁ1
