Atkins bars

(Allie) #21

I’ve seen them on there before but not looking now as I’m 50 hours into a fast

I’m looking to add in a daily-ish Atkins bar, the highest protein one I can find. I’m not eating enough protein and can afford the 200 or so calories…

I ate them regularly the 2x I’ve been on Atkins over the years.

I’ll eat a half of one of their brownies or candy bars every once in a while. They’re pretty pricey for what you get, and it isn’t much.

If you are going for that kind of thing I think the quest bars taste better and have better ingredients. They have a lot of fiber so net carbs are low if that’s how your counting. And yes I know many people need to avoid these frankenfoods but if your going to have one that would be my pick.

I’m going with sugar free dark chocolate atm (sweetened with stevia). I put a bar in the freezer and ideally have 2 squares for a serving. Though I finished my last bar last night and I might not bother replacing it. I’ve been trying to manipulate my mood with different keto foods and it just isn’t satisfying me like carbage.
That’s a good thing I guess. Time to find new ways to manage.

@Jess1 try this search on Amazon, not Lily’s but sugar free and sweetened with stevia.
Still best to beat the craving but if you feel you need something…

That should be maltitol, and it is one of the worst sweeteners for causing GI distress. And it is made from corn… https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maltitol

That’s is correct, my wife used to buy the Atkins bars, and the Elevation Low-Carb bars at Aldi becuase they save on the label 2 - 4 net carbs per bars, but you should count half the sugar alcohols as carbs as they can affect your blood sugars and your ability to get into an stay in ketosis. You can check out more about how to count sugar alcohols from the University Of California San Franscisco (UCSF) website at the following link.

I find that these type of “allowed sweets” make me want more.

(Shayne) #32

Even the marketing gurus at Atkins Nutritionals will tell you those aren’t for us. Jimmy asked at a conference and she said the bars are designed and marketed to the mainstream.

(Allie) #33

They do that for lots of people. I don’t have them at all and don’t miss them, but I was sugar free for years before keto.
