Are you supposed add carrots, onions and vegetables to bone broth?

OK, I am a new user and I suspect this is a dumb question… won’t the carbs from the carrots get into the broth?

Dr Fungs fasting book says to remove the carrots after you are done cooking the broth. Trace sugars could leech in but not enough to worry about.

I do. I follow Dr. Fung’s bone broth recipe, and I trust him! If those things do add carbs, it couldn’t be much, because Dr. Fung says you can drink bone broth while fasting.

2-3 lbs chicken bones
1 onion coarsely chopped
2 carrots coarsely chopped
2 stalks celery coarsely chopped
2 Tbsp raw, unfiltered apple cider vinegar
1 Tbsp salt
1 tsp whole peppercorns
other herbs and spices, if you want

Roast the bones in the oven on a roasting pan at 350°F for 30 minutes. This gives a nice flavor to the bones.

Strain when done cooking and before drinking.

Thank you! Dr Fung’s book is on my xmas list.

I bought his fasting book on iTunes.
He has a fasting video series on Dietdoctor.com which is likely quite good.

I add celery and onion to my broth… yeah, I know onion is carby but really, one onion in a gallon + of broth?! Come on, why split hairs over the .015 (?) carbs per cup or two! I suspect carrots would be the same. No need to freak out, especially if Keto is a lifestyle.
