APRIL 2019 IF/EF Chat ALL WELCOME

Yep, I am microwave kind of guy.

My wife (or I lately since I’ve been the cook mostly while she recovered from surgeries the last year) make “taco eggs” ahead.

Summary

These are really huevos rancheros or some such and we just call them that because originally we wrapped them in tortillas (name is totally screwed up).

Summary

We put in couple pounds of sausage, 2 dozen eggs, 1lb or so of cheese, some salt in a frying pan

Eat some, put the rest in tupperware. I eat some (about 3 eggs worth) each morning for 10-14 days. 2 minutes in the microwave.

One of the main improvements is MY MOTIVATION HAS returned.

All of the exercise and other actions I’ve taken have been a direct result of Keto diet -> Carnivore diet -> Adding fasting.

Each of these has improved both my health and my motivation both for improving my health further AND for doing other things in my life.

Book recommendations:

12 Rules for Life” by Jordon Peterson (try all 12 even if they don’t seem to apply to you – ok, you can pet a dog instead of a cat so adapt them to YOU.)

“4-Hour Body” by Tim Ferriss (great book, don’t believe anything until you try it or do the research)

“Anyway You Can” by Annette Bosworth (directly about autophagy and fasting)

anything by Dr. Fung

26h ‘accidental fast’ under the belt.
Navigated smoothly around the chocolate Easter eggs on our ladies night table.
Just had a medium sized zero carb meal before hopping to bed because I don’t want to go to zumba with a full tummy tomorrow morning.

Was thinking about having a square of 90% chocolate for dessert and was like ‘meh, I don’t need it’ what a great feeling :star_struck:

(RossanaF) #384

That’s a great way to keep up with your fasting hours! I will definitely put it to use.
Thanks! Today is my 4th EF, lasted 48 hrs the first 2, 52 hrs the 3rd time and tonight will be my 72 hrs mark. Not sure if I should continue or eat dinner. It’s the “I get bored” problem more than anything. A bit hungry but not much. Reading this forum is a tremendous help, I have never been able to do this before!

#385

Yeah, we already do make loads of Deviled Eggs, as well as a few other things which do last a while. But seems like we still end up making meals mostly more for just the day, or possibly two. But we are indeed looking at making more stuff that can just be heated and eaten. Thanks for the ideas. :+1:

I actually only went 18 hrs. today, since my Son and I were planning to leave work early today, so he could make some runs. … But he walked into my office today when he came back in from the field and said he wanted to eat something, but didn’t want to overdo it. So he thought I would split some stuff with him. (Sliced Roast Beef & Pepperjack Cheese. So I said sure, we didn’t want to have it sit in the fridge all weekend, and since we had a couple stops to make, didn’t want it to sit out without refrigeration.) So it was fine, plus the wife called earlier to say she wasn’t feeling too well, and she had eaten something too. So just told her to rest up and we could just go back to it next week.

(Mame) #386

I agree that is a great feeling. I had it tonight as well with my 100% chocs. (I like it unsweetened) Broke off 3 squares and couldn’t finish them, gave to my wife.

For now the appetite has been calmed…I may experiment with more protein this week and see if I can keep feeling more content. No planned 24h+ fasts until Monday-ish. I hope all enjoy their weekends!

I tried to cut back a little the last two days on my refeeding qty and today my hunger signals kicked into high gear. Weird. I ate some extra keto food and all is good. I think my satiety signal was already tuned and I did not trust them. Been losing 1.6 lbs a week since mid February so I’ll just stay the course.

It is nice to see this thread so active.

(Herb Martin) #388

You are doing better and better each time.

Bored can be solved by boosting a little bit with bone broth or cream in coffee etc.

Better to eat a very little bit than to stop a fast you enjoy and that is helping you improve your help.

I’m not at 12 days for the third time in the last 8 weeks or so and it is MUCH easier doing this way.

My GKI is 0.59 (said to be deep autophagy) with ketones at 7.1 (quite high) today.

I don’t need anything for hunger but getting bored is a nuisance.

(traci simpson) #389

Only fast I was able to do was the fast with the maple syrup and lemon and Cayanne pepper. I fasted on that maple syrup and lemon juice diet for 10 days and then I did it again for seven days but unlike this fasting I had liquids to fill me up all day so for this fast are you allowed to have like bone broth or is it nothing but water and coffee?

(traci simpson) #390

lol. Well, I wasn’t trying to fast necessarily. I was trying to go longer than three hours between meals but you’re right I’m still kind of used to the same habits of eating at specific times a day during the work week. I did manage to wait an additional 30 minutes before eight.

(Liz ) #391

Took a break from EFing to eat TMAD for 10 days or so. Trying to figure out if my hunger signals are real or disordered eating habits (eating for comfort/addiction).

Sometimes I feel like my body wants to fill in all the food calories it missed while I was fasting by doubling up every meal once I break. But what if it revs up my metabolism to eat to actual satiety even if it seems like a LOT of nutrients? I guess we’ll find out depending on what the scale says over the next few months.

In any case I’m starting a fast tonight, aiming for 68 hours.

#392

Well, that’s entirely up to you to decide. Water, tea and coffee will also fill you up, same as the other liquids you mention, but it depends on how you feel overall. You can always try different ways too? This may let you know what way you have success with, and what’s more enjoyable. Or you might find as you continue, you might want to change up some, the longer you do it? But being Fat Adapted is a big, major plus, because Fasting is much easier after you are. Can you fast without being FA? Sure. It’s just usually much harder, because the hunger feeling won’t be diminished, and being FA makes it easier.

(For me) I generally only water Fast. (But that was my choice) To be honest, it’s possible the reason I probably do this is because that’s just how I started out. When I researched into LCHF (Keto) as well as Fasting, I did so for many months, and it was said to be the best way to ensure Autophagy. (One of Dr. Fung’s videos I believe) - I also didn’t seem to have a problem doing water only, so I simply kept it that way. But I have fasted before, where I have drank the occasional Tea or even Coffee, I just drink them both plain, or black, with no additives. But nowadays, I do prefer water only, and find it the best for me. … I’ve also seen/read/watched other folks who state there is indeed some things that can be consumed and still get Autophagy? (So it can be confusing, since there isn’t a whole lot of data out there yet, or at least nothing that concrete to say one is better then the any other?) So I guess it all boils down to what you want to try, what works well or what you believe is the best way for you.

As some folks here say, they enjoy fasting more when they do use bone broth, HWC, etc. And there’s nothing wrong with that, especially if it works for them. (That’s what really matters) But I can say that it was Dr. Fung who was one of the folks I watched the most, and that he is said to be one of the foremost authorities when it comes to Fasting. Along with Megan Ramos, who works alongside him. They run the Intensive Dietary Management (IDM Program) and I remember him actually saying on one of his videos that there isn’t enough data on Fasting just yet to provide all the answers. But that it’s his opinion on the water only Fast to ensure Autophagy, but has also mentioned Coffee and Tea should be fine. (If I recall correctly, since it has been a while since I watched those videos)

So I personally don’t Fast for weight loss, since I seem to lose just as much when I’m just eating Keto, mostly OMAD. But it’s more because the way I feel whilst Fasting. So if I do get some Autophagy, that’s just a bonus I guess. … But I have read it’s supposed to help with loose skin as well. (from losing all the weight) So if anything, I’d like to hope it may help with this in the long run? For me, I mostly enjoyed switching over to this WOE (Way of Eating) itself and Fasting is just something else I found enjoyable.

Sorry for the long post…

Thanks! I appreciate the feedback

Well I failed and caved last night. I went to a concert with my girlfriend and I had dessert and after I ate it I feel guilty as hell. And this morning I woke up I felt fine however my stomach looks like an inner tube which is not good so today I’m going to fast as long as possible. I have a 5K at 3 o’clock so I need to eat something maybe before that but it is 11 AM right now and my last meal was at 7:30 last night am I hungry, I had a coffee no sugar, and I cooked to meals for the week so far but I’m not hungry yet just gonna drink some water and maybe around 130 have a little something to get me through the race

Morning all, Im on 86 hrs fasted.
Was super proud of myself we even went for dinner with another couple, they ate and drank and i had water and drove everyone. All of them are keto so no explanations were needed, it was great. This has been my best one yet😀 not longest but i feel great. My only concern is my water intake. Im trying to drink but im having a hard time, its almost feels like my stomach has shrunk so much it doesnt even want h20. I have been taking electrolytes.
Yesterday i think i consumed maybe 2 liters, is that enough?
Im also finding my feasting days are smaller, any tips on getting food in after EF.

#396

@Diygurl19 … No worries, it happens. Don’t see it as a failure, but simply that you indulged, and just put it behind you. Most do feel this way when they decide to partake in something like this, but you will find the first 4, 6, 8, etc. weeks can be the hardest when switching over to Keto, but you will find once you stick with it for awhile, it does get easier. … Simply do as they say, KCKO (Keep Calm, Keto On) There are folks who have said that after becoming adaptive to being Keto, that when they eat a sweet desert or indulge with something very carby, that it actually makes them feel horrible, or quite sickly.

I would think as long as you’re staying hydrated, it should be fine. Hell, when I first switched over to this WOE, I was drinking 1.5 to 2 Gallons in a day. (And have done even more) … But I was told I might be washing out my electrolytes and would need to watch for this. Can’t say why I would drink this much at times, I just did? (still do occasionally) But some days I would just be around or under a Gallon. I think it depends on if I’m working out in the yard, in the heat, etc. but I have been trying to drink just when I’m thirsty, but there are days I still drink quite a bit. … So though I still don’t try to limit myself, I do try not to overdo it, but I also found when I started doing a KetoAide each morning (and another in the evenings whilst Fasting) I don’t seem to drink as much overall? Might be supplementing electrolytes has helped me with this? But it’s the only thing I can think that I changed? Probably average a Gallon these days.

(traci simpson) #397

Hi thanks for the encouragement. It’s 115 and I just started to eat and it wasn’t that difficult. I just feel like I should’ve been stronger and not gave into eating that sweet dessert. But MoveOn MoveOn I will. Today is a new day and now I know and I can learn from that and keep going. As far as the water is concerned, I purposely bought a water bottle that is 80 ounces and I drink two of those plus a little bit more A day

(Herb Martin) #398

What’s the purpose of a maple syrup (sugar) fast?

Basically, you were fasting on sugar. (60% sugar, most of which is sucrose).

Sugar is pretty much always going to keep you hungry (wanting more.)

(RossanaF) #399

Well, I boosted with a bit more than coffee and had 2 strips of bacon. It was either that or I knew I would call it quits and I really wanted to experience day 4 of EF. I am ecstatic!!! So here I am sitting at 87 hrs. My BG is 75 and ketones 2.6, GKI of 1.6!! I had to tell someone, hubby went to work so I am posting to you! I know you all understand how hard it is when you first start out. So I started Keto in Jan and I stumbled into this group because I did not loose any weight for 3 months. My first week of Keto/fasting was 3/16 and I was 251 lbs. I have fasted 2-3 days every week, so far 4 on this one and today I weighed 237!! Woo-hoo!! I am Sooooo happy I want to scream! Going for a walk!! something I have not done in 3-4 yrs since my back surgery. Happy Saturday!

(Herb Martin) #400

I think you did the RIGHT THING. I haven’t boosted with anything as substantial as 2 pieces of bacon but absolutely no judgment from me except that you did the RIGHT THING.

Even though I haven’t, I might next week.

Better to eat a few bites (or sips) of something 0-carb and continue.

YES!!!

You should be. Congratulations!

That is part of the purpose of these forums and this thread in specific:

Support each other.

Goodness only knows that everyone puts up with my rambling posts  or is smart enough to hit ‘Next’

I came to fasting because my carnivore weight loss was ‘stuck’ (and through studying better nutrition. And to carnivore because my Keto was stuck before that.

Wow! More than 5% of you total weight which is likely around 10% reduction in body fat.

Scream. If you don’w want anyone to know, then just get in the car on the Interstate and SCREAM AWAY. (really  )

My turn:
Today is winding down Fast Day #13 for me (my longest is 14 so I’ll manage that and probably more with no issues.)

GKI was 0.74 if I recall correctly with 4.5 ketones and only 60 glucose. Not sure what’s up with that 4.5 as it should have been 6.0-7.5

I’ll recheck in a bit.

But my weight was also up for the first time in weeks. 2.5 lbs. Water of course since I haven’t eaten but curious to see.

I was hoping to make 200 or less by tomorrow (Sunday night) but it looks like I’ll be lucky to be below 205. (Started at 282 1/2).

My wife is still considering re-joining the fast (she did first 3 3/4 days) on Sunday night.

If she does, I am certain I’ll continue for moral support, and generally plan to keep going in any case.

My near term goal is to run my weight down close to 190-195 and possibly do that on THIS FAST.

Happy Fasting Everyone!!!

(RossanaF) #401

LOL, no it’s actually quite interesting for the beginners!

A bit at a time…I’ve learned that the hard way. The KCKO is really a rule to stick by, if you get frustrated you dump everything. So how long on Keto/EF have you been on to loose 80 lbs? that would be my dream come true!
I did Atkins like 20+ yrs ago and it worked beautifully for me! even eating bars and what we called “fluff” (cream cheese, SF Jello pudding, sour cream and Splenda) we ate that every night and dropped 40 lbs really fast. Of course this is 20 yrs later (or older to be more specific) and we have to try harder. I’ve never done such a strict eating as this year but if I want results I think this is the way it has to be. I made a new year’s resolution in front of a bunch of family members and I cannot (once again) fail.
Congrats on your weight loss! it’s inspiring!
