APRIL 2019 IF/EF Chat ALL WELCOME

#241

13 hrs. in presently. Ended up eating a meal after working out in the yard again yesterday, plus the Wife said she had made some stuff she wanted me to try with her, so we started after last night’s dinner. Told her I was thinking of just going to Tuesday evening, and then feast Wed/Thur, and put another small in by skipping Friday. (should make for two - 48 hr. or so) … At least the weather has finally flipped now.

Happy Fasting Folks… :+1:

I am currently at 22 hours. My hope is to go to 48. This will be my first semi-extended fast in several years. I do often do 24 hour fasts.
I restarted my Keto journey on 3/6/19, lost about 8 pounds initially and nothing since. I’ve been in ketosis fairly steadily since beginning.

Welcome Jane!

(Jane- Old Inky Crone) #244

Thank you!

Okay about 17 hrs into a 60 to 72 hr fast. If I go 60 I will do a 36 hr fast near the end of the week. I need to keep my body guessing.

Good for you DiyGurl!

Presumably “this” is some type of “Time Restricted Eating” or similar intermittent fasting?

Glad you here – lots of kind people here will try to help with most any question.

JaneyMaeJane keto re-tread

Way to go – fasting is a great way to kick start or re-start a stalled weight loss.

If you do 2 days you MIGHT CONSIDER 3. 2nd day is usually the most difficult so that Dr. Fung actually tells people “do 1 day or 3” as 1-day is 70% of the 3-day benefit but most of the difficulty is in Day 2

In any case, we are on your side and you should do whatever is right for you.

[My report]:

Middle of the 8th day of this fast. Easiest yet (each has been easier consistently), looking like at least 14 days if no issues arise.

GKI is 1.2 today – I would prefer better but I’ve been boosting with a bit of fat in coffee etc. AND I’ve been taking a lot of vitamin supplements. (Whatever you think is a “lot”, triple that and you not be TOO LOW) so ketones only running around 3.5-5 still.

(3.5 is great for a keto diet but a bit weak for a 1-week fast.)

My wife Carol is planning to rejoin this fast at about my day 14, maybe sooner. If she does, I’ll do my best to hang in with her for the 3 or so days she chooses. (She started the first 3 3/4 days with me for her 1st water fast ever.)

Meds are pretty low, I’ve removed well over half but may need to put hypertension meds back when the fast completes (fasts are great diuretics and lowering of blood pressure.)

If I go past the 14-day mark I do have a vague notion (again) of doing 4-6 weeks, the rest of April seems very POSSIBLE, though I’m not committing to it yet.

Happy Fasting Everyone! Stay healthy.

This is what I was telling V last night. She’s going to be Fasting with me, so I figure get two 48’s in this week, with the two days feasting, and that maybe next week, we can do a 72 around Tues/Wed/Thur. Plus with the weather finally being so nice, she’s already mentioned yesterday about us cooking out on the grill more. (Though we already use it year-around, but when we start making stuff using the entire grill, it’s always nice to make enough stuff for a few nights meals) Plus, it cuts back on using the oven for meals, when the house is already warmed up, and not have to turn the AC on to combat it.

Welcome Traci and Jane.

Hi everyone!

I have been keto and doing IF for about 6 months without issues. I did my first long fast (5 days) about a week ago, and was intending on starting another fast today… however, I am only 18 hours in and have been getting the shakes off and on this morning. Has anyone experienced this before? I searched and didn’t find anyone talking about it.

#249

Hello Carrie, though I haven’t experienced this myself, there have been plenty other folks who have mentioned it before. Some have spoken of Heart Palpitations, and others about feeling shaking, but either to me could simply be signs you need to eat something? This is just my opinion, but what I’ve always said is that anything experienced out of the norm whilst Fasting, could be your body signaling you to just eat something. This can also be just overall weird or queasiness feelings, etc. Just make sure you’re getting enough Sodium, Magnesium, Potassium, etc. Most find the Sodium is usually one of the first things they’re lacking. … My thinking is when in doubt, try eating something. You can always try another Fast later. Never know how a Fast is going to go until you start it.

I have had the shakes a little when fasting and I attributed it to having very strong Columbian coffee on an empty stomach. I didn’t have any other symptoms at the time. If you are having nausea and a general feeling of weakness with the shakes I would definitely eat a little something. Maybe some bone broth and see how you feel?

I ended up breaking my fast at 22 hours. I just wasn’t feeling it today. I was super hungry for more than a couple of hours. Not your typical tummy growl that passes after a few minutes. So just finished a decent keto meal and gonna try again

(Alec) #252

Bravo.:clap::clap:. This is how to fast. Rest up, have some food, go again! There’s always another day to fast.

(Alec) #253

Coming to the end of my bi-weekly 36hr fast. Not hungry. I am looking forward to breakfast for the taste only, but no hunger. Often happens. Sometimes I eat brekky in this situation, sometimes not. Advice?

To eat or not to eat, that is the question.

(Carrie ) #254

… or the sugar free red bull perhaps, lololololol! Good call, thank you! After a few minutes it passed and I feel good now. Lesson learned.

(Carrie ) #255

Thank you for the info and advice! I think it was the red bull on my empty stomach… I won’t do that again lol.

(Eric - The patient needs to be patient!) #256

Oh gosh on a good day I don’t drink that stuff. I had too much coffee today and got a little jittery.

(Eric - The patient needs to be patient!) #257

24+ hrs. Probably my easiest first day ever. I was intensely productive today. Maybe my fasting muscle is getting stronger. I did have too much coffee today. Tomorrow morning at 36 hrs is now easily in sight. Sleeping while fasting has never been a problem except I sometimes dream about food. I have never awakened hungry.

I am super busy tomorrow with crazy meetings I’m running. Better to be leading them then bored in the background waiting for interesting content in the meetings.

Frontrunning

Were clocks ticking, it was minutes into the fast. The endless slate gray-blue plain stretched out before me; the quietude of the chapel, the peace of freedom. Hello, old friend, I’ve traveled you before. On this night, time would fall silent, only faint tire sounds from pavement imperfections.

No broken shards of this evening would show false, no shattering thoughts of starvation, no food would justify itself by its mere existence or placement, nor the occasion nor a bargain. Not boredom, not the hour, not Hopkins’ Carrion Comfort would dread me, delay me, overcome me with transient distraction.

Scenes in old photographs, black and white, sepia tones, how things used to be, and farther back - monks purifying themselves, thoughts away, shamanic consciousness. So let the clocks run, and now I’m 20 hours in. Foolish to drive all night and work all day, and still - the fast.

Further yet, an old woman walks up a mountain, seeking the herbs that can only be found there. She knows it’s not the day to eat.

(Carrie ) #259

I’m at the 24 hour mark and feeling good! Tomorrow I’ll probably have hunger pangs, so it’s good that I’ll be super busy… kind of why I was wanting to start my fast today lol. I loved the energy boost that came with days 2+ last time, and am excited to be getting it back!

(Jane- Old Inky Crone) #260

Oh well, I only made it to 30 hours. Started feeling really bad and had to stop. I think I’ll wait a while to get better adjusted to the WOE before trying again for a longer than 24 hour fast.
