Anyone up for some weekly fasting support?

Alrighty guys, I’ve decided to start a fast today, intending to go til Saturday at this point. We’ll see if this gets us to the 6:1 fast.
Had cold brewed coffee this morning with about 1/3 cup of heavy cream, and just put a packet of salt on my tongue. Trying for water only.

(Jeff Davis) #62

I’m in, starting tomorrow after lunch, going through lunch on Friday. Coordinating as I can with the June Zorn Fast.

(betsy.rome) #63

Started my fast last night (Sunday). Shooting for at least 42 hrs…or 4 days, depends how I feel. If 42, I’ll do a 2nd fast later in the week.

(Nathanael Schulte) #64

So yesterday, not a bad day one, though it technically turned into a low-level fat fast. I had one more coffee last night, some butter, straight, and 2 slices of bacon, and a Diet Dr. Pepper.
On the other hand, I listened to the 2 Keto Dudes Podcast yesterday and heard the interview on salt. I immediately went hog-wild on the salt. I’ve never felt better on Day 1 of a fast in my life. I got a $5 shaker of Pink Himalayan Salt from one of our grocery stores and just poured it on th tongue when I felt like it. My mind has been forever blown, can’t wait to see if I can improve Day 2!

A couple updates:
Day 2 was great, no headaches, just flying high!
Day 3 was mostly ok, but I felt more tired. Still ended up with more coffee than I intended. It was also about 95 degrees outside, in the wretched St. Louis humidity, I spent some of it outside.
Day 4: I started today with coffee and 2Tbsp of KetoMCT oil. The day is overcast and I could already start to feel some down mood setting in. I think this was a mistake, as I’ve spent most of the morning in the bathroom, like Jeff Daniels in Dumb & Dumber. It seems to have passed now. I pray to God it has anyway :frowning:

Alright, I broke the fast early last night. I was just exhausted from all the diarrhea that morning. So I had a massive dinner, felt better, though still tired, and I’m playing it by ear today. Either way, I’ll be back to it on Sunday.
But the coolest thing is I’ve never had even close to this high a reading on my Ketonix:

I still feel a bit tired, but I also still feel clear headed and I still think the salt helped ALOT. I definitely will NOT be supplementing any MCT oil next time.

(betsy.rome) #67

Just ended my fast. 116 HOURS. YESSSSSSS. I honestly wasn’t even hungry when I ended it, it was just time. Next time will shoot for 7 days, but 5 is fine with me. Thank all you fasting peeps for the support.

@Nathanael_Schulte, I’m confused. How come the arrow is pointing to around 48 but the digital reading is 180.6?

Yesterday at 2.5 days in, I was still getting a reading of 3.3 ppm, and that’s on a water/ salt only fast. I hate my Ketonix😡

(Nathanael Schulte) #69

So, the needle is definitely less accurate when the number goes past 100ppm. There’s no mismatch for me below.
Also, those numbers came after I broke the fast with a large Keto meal. I was between 14 and 41 in the fast when I checked.

(Nathanael Schulte) #70

Also, it took me a while to get readings this high. I think it’s accurate based on how good I feel as well, I can usually tell when I’m going to I get a high reading because my mind is unusually clear.

(Nathanael Schulte) #71

Here are my readings for the past week. Just got 150 tonight, but notice how much of the time was much lower. If I were to go further back I’ve gotten much lower readings in general.

(Linda) #72

My readings throughout the fast never got beyond 3.4 (blue level) which they say means I was not in ketosis. That’s crap! I fasted for 83 hours without being hungry and my insulin levels are 3 and blood glucose 4.7 according to blood test results I got this week. I think there’s something wrong with mine. Have you got the 2017 model?

(Nathanael Schulte) #73

Yes. Is that the one you have? Have you tried recalbrating?

(Linda) #74

Yes, many times! Almost daily at the moment!

(Nathanael Schulte) #75

Sounds like you might need to contact ketonix to see if you have s faulty unit. The only other way you can even double check is with a blood ketone test, but from what I can tell, you probably should be getting higher readings.

(Nathanael Schulte) #76

My next 6:1 fast starts now. I’ve loaded up on salt, had my last coffee and I’m going straight water after this, planning to go til Saturday

(Linda) #77

Way ahead of you there!

This is my second device after the first one was replaced and I am in constant contact with support from Australia.
I’ve now made the decision to get a blood meter just to know for sure but I couldn’t fast for up to 4.5 days as I have if I wasn’t in ketosis. Thanks for your posts😀

(Nathanael Schulte) #78

Alright, so I guess it’s reboot time. I had a headache most of the morning, couldn’t get rid of it, and I got stuck working the weekend (I’m a programmer, can’t really concentrate with the headache) so I finally had a meal of bacon, eggs with lots of butter and some more coffee & cream. Definitely felt better, I’ll be restarting tomorrow, I guess

(Nathanael Schulte) #79

Well, this week has not turned out very well for fasting. Too much work stress, not enough sleep. I’ve just needed to eat, and I’ve listened to my body. Work should be settled down a bit next week, we’ll see how it goes then.

(Kevin Takahashi) #80

Hey Nathanael!

Sorry to hear about the rough patches over the past little while.

But that’s the great thing about these self-experiments … learning to become more self-aware. And, to paraphrase Dr. Fung, if you’re not feeling it, just eat!

I’ve had to change things up myself.
After a couple of weeks of 108:60 fast/feast, I noticed that on the days I lifted, I was feeling a little more tired than usual. Nothing drastic, didn’t need to alter the routine, but at times was thinking “this feels a little tougher than it has in the past”

I also just switched personal trainers, and things have been knocked up a notch, so for the next little while I’m going to make post-workout nutrition a priority, and let fasting fall in between.

Which means my schedule may start looking like 60:108 fast/feast, or may even go back to 2 x 24 hour IFs for the next little while.

I’ll re-evaluate how I feel in a month or so - ideally I’d like to work in a 72 hour weekly fast somewhere.
