Anyone up for some weekly fasting support?

I’ve been looking to make regular fasting a part of my weekly routine. Now that the major work project I’ve been on for almost a year is winding down and hopefully going live next week, I’m looking to start Monday, June 12, and I personally was thinking of either a reverse 5:2 or 6:1 - meaning, I eat 1 or 2 days a week, probably on a Saturday or Sunday. Fasting days would be pretty much a water fast. I’ve tended to do a lot of fat-fasting in the past, but I had to get a physical with some blood work earlier this week and realized I’m probably better off with more regular water-only fasts, based on how I felt before and after eating that day.
I could use the accountability of checking in with folks, wondering if anyone else is interested in a weekly check-in type thing, whether you’re following the same plan or not.

That’s a little too much fasting for me at this point, I’m close to my goal weight/body fat. But I am planning on 60-72 hrs a week. It would be cool to only have to worry about food 1-2 days a week!

So, the idea is to just have a weekly check-in mainly, so whatever works for each person is good for me.

I plan on doing extended fasts every week. I am still new at this! I know I can go over 24 hours without much effort, but not sure how I’ll fare pushing into the 60 hour plus ranges yet. After a Memorial Day feast of BBQ I’ll be due to start a fast. I’m sure others will jump on as well, sounds fun.

I’m planning on starting a protocol of 1 72 hr. fast weekly for a while. So I am in but will be starting after the holiday feasting. I am just ending a fast tomorrow so I can do my eating Sun/Mon/Tues before fasting again.

Just hit 24hours a few minutes ago. Feeling great!

I’m working my way up to do 3/3 fast/feast cycle. I always feel my absolute best when I’m a fasted state.

I also feel like I can never drink enough water when I’m fasting, always behind.

(Siobhan) #8

I am doing weekly or twice weekly fasting (only 24-36 hours though) so a thread for that would be cool!

I’m starting Dr. Fung’s 24-hour protocol, which is three 24-hours fasts per week with 16-hours fasts on other days. That means dinner only on Monday, Wednesday and Friday and skipping breakfast on (most) other days. Would love to be part of a support thread.

I’m really playing it by ear right now, fasting when I feel like it and feasting when I dont. So far this week I haven’t fasted, but the past 2 weeks I have done at least 60 hrs.

I’m in, I’d like to go for 42 to 72 hours each week, as scheduling allows. I was about 24 hours in last night when my wife decided that she wanted a cheeseburger and a glass of wine, so I fell off the fasting wagon. But the great thing about fasting is that you are always only one meal away from starting a new fast, so after the cheeseburger and glass of wine, I started again. 14 hours in now, planning to go 42 or so. I would enjoy an accountability thread.

Count me in as well. I’m trying the feast/fast cycle as well and shooting for 3 days fasting per week. I’m about 60 hours into this fast but may go another day if I still feel good. I’m trying to really understand my body’s reactions and right now I still have a lot of energy and don’t feel any chills so I think my metabolism is still up.

This is my 4th time fasting but the first time I’ve had anything more than keto aid. I’m really just having 2 Tbsp of heavy cream in my morning coffee and so far I haven’t seen any issues with that. It also lets me really enjoy my ritual morning cup still. :coffee:

Did two feasting days before starting this 72 hr. fast. Started it on Monday night, 7PM was going to just do 72 hrs. so would have broken it this evening, but I feel too good to quit right now, so I will continue through tomorrow 7AM for an 82 hr. fast. (But if I still feel this good might make it til dinner time, who knows?)

This time, my hands and feet have not gotten chilled. Day 2 fasting was easy peasy. I have not even had a cup of the bone broth I cooked up for this fast and morning coffee is smaller cup with less coconut oil, one day I skipped it and just tossed in a splash of hwc instead. It seems to be true for me that this is getting easier.

Keep Calm and Fast On!

Sounds good, I’m at 46 right now. Been trying to fast hard, eat hard lately.

Just broke my fast at 84 hrs. I only re-lost the weight I had put on since my last fast, with .2lb extra. So not a lot of weight loss this time, but I am within the “normal range”, no longer “overweight”. So that could have something to do with it.

I had felt some weird tummy signals yesterday afternoon. I drank some water, ate some H.salt crystals and toughed it out. I didn’t get any chilly fingers or feet this time around I was pleased with that.

At the 72 hr. marker, I felt a surge of heat, not unlike a hot flash and I seemed full of energy. Has anyone else experienced this? I didn’t get any chilly fingers or feet this time around.

How is everyone else doing?

(James) #16

I broke my first 72 hour fast late last night. I’m down about 4.5 lbs from the start of the fast. I’m curious to see how much I’ll gain back when I weigh in tomorrow morning.

I was really trying to pay attention to how I felt during my fast. I wanted to see if I could feel my metabolism change. I had a problem at the start though as the keto-aid I made the first day had way too much salt. Blood pressure issues I haven’t felt since going keto hit me hard. I cut back the next day and started feeling better.

About halfway through day 3 I started feeling some chills, mostly in my hands and arms. I decided to end the fast after 72 hours and I’m now doing a few days feasting. Plans for my first Carl’s Head Pizza tonight!

I hope everybody else is doing good and has a great weekend.

(Dustin) #17

Checking in again at 95 hrs (3.9 days). Sometimes I wouldn’t mind eating, but then I would have to go through day 2 again. lol Going to keep pushing forward.

(KCKO, KCFO 🥥) #18

Yea, once you get passed day 3, it is all pretty smooth sailing. That is why I started doing fasts in the PM, you get to sleep right away and that helps with those first days.

Let us know how it goes.

I have been eating well since I broke my fast. I lost very little this round net .2 lb., but was kinda expecting that, happened to me before. I will continue eating for another couple of days, and then start another 72+hr. fast. I love the energy burst that hits around 72 hrs.

(Dustin) #19

I somehow stumbled into breakfast yesterday. I’m not sure why that happens I was feeling strong. It’s like being in some band and somehow you messed up the 155th measure. So…back to becoming, but usually I don’t feel like fasting right after a fast… today I do.

(Kevin Takahashi) #20

Hey Nathanael and everyone! I’m in for offering support!

I’m switching up my fasting regimen to something similar - more-or-less 5:2 of fasting:feasting, though it’s going to end up more like 108:60 (in hours) … and there’ll be a little fasting in the 60 hour window too (my long run ends up in that window, and I prefer doing that fasted).

I thought it was about time to change things up, as I’ve been doing twice-weekly ~24hr IFs for almost 2 years now, and started working in extended (7-10 day) fasts every quarter about a year ago.

Go everyone!
