Anyone have any New Year's Resolutions re Keto?

Breaded fried fish, thanks for that!! I make the pork rind waffles all the time.

I’d surely hate to give up dairy. The only ā€œevidenceā€ I’ve seen is usually from my friends who are paleo followers or CICO dieters that link to specious non-referenced articles at hosted on clickbait domains.

I shall keep an open mind on the matter, particularly if there’s third-party studies that provide evidence for this.

Resolutions

  1. Crush my carbs
  2. Lean toward Carnivore
  3. do my therapy so I can get hand function back in my left arm and hand after surgery. Ugh

Have been off the rails for all of 2018. Dad died at the end of 2017 and it’s been a down hill spiral ever since. Started a new job this past April and someone always brings in crap that I end up face down in. Not good and it needs to stop. My back hurts and my knees hurt. Just came back from a family vacation and really unpleased with how I look in a wetsuit, nevermind a swimsuit!

So back to the basics. The fridge is stocked with keto foods, hubs has made a few keto meals to pack for work, and I made a large pot of bone broth. So, I suppose the resolution is to get back to strict keto, if I were to make a resolution.

Not all dairy. I’d still keep butter and some occasional cheese. It is just to easy for me it over eat on crean, sour cream, cream cheese.
With mostly meat and eggs it is way easier not to eat your feelings.

I was thinking about this question, and now I have the ā€œrightā€ answer.

Upgrade my wardrobe in 2019. Slowly, economically, but deliberately, for my new less fatty self.

Ok, time to get real - all the coconut oil in the world won’t save me from the ingredients in some of these deli meats. Grabbed Canadian bacon - didn’t look at the ingredients. Had to eat the whole damn package to feel full, and now have the attendant stomach ache. Not from eating too much, from all the crappy ingredients in it, including corn syrup. Forget it - I will only buy Applegate in the future. My bacon does have sugar, but it doesn’t affect me the same way, and I’ve tried the nitrate free and don’t care for it. Why does everything have corn syrup in it?

I resolve to remain in ketosis throughout 2019, whatever it takes.
KCKO…

Haha! That show has been playing on Antenna TV lately.

(Jane) #50

I would like to do some strength training.

And maintain my weight.

Not really a resolution per se, but I plan to up my cooking game and learn to use the new Instant Pot I bought recently.

I also need to get into the habit of cooking bigger quantities in advance so I don’t have to find time to cook or prep every single meal.

No resolutions. They’ve kinda turned into what Christmas or birthday wishes were many moons ago.

It used to be that when it came to Christmas or my birthday, I wanted something! I had my wish lists. I had my ā€œprobably not gonna happen but I can dreamā€ wish list. And I had my ā€œpractical and likely to happenā€ wish list. But as the years have passed, I’ve kinda gotten to the point where when I need something, I go get it. And to be honest, I don’t really want a whole lot beyond the necessities as it just tends to be more for me to worry about.

I decided to go keto sometime around July of 2017. And I did, no special date, no ā€œresolutionā€, just a decision. Have been ever since. Decided last month that I was consuming way too much heavy whipping cream. Discovered that whipping a small amount of butter into my coffee worked just as well as a huge amount of HWC. Have been doing that every since.

Jan 1 is just a date on the calendar, which is kinda just a made up index of time so we can all talk intelligently about the concept of ā€œwhenā€ a certain day is. The sun rises and sets just like every other day before and after. Sure, there are special times or seasons that revolve around specific dates, no argument with that. But the idea of picking a certain date to be the time that I’ll start doing something, well, that just doesn’t mean much to me. If it’s time to start doing something, I’ll start now. If it’s not time yet or I don’t know yet whether I will, I won’t now.

But hey, if making a resolution on a certain date helps you, go for it! I never found that it made much of a difference for me. If I was going to do it, it didn’t matter the date. If I wasn’t going to do it, it didn’t matter the date.

The Party Pooper LOL!!

So you don’t feed them after midnight? Or was that something else?

Yes, and they’re awesome

:metal::metal::metal::metal::metal:

My neice had to do that, but since going keto a few weeks ago, she’s had no issues with anything, so yeah, blame milk lactose, it seems. I suggested at the time that she might try it given so many here have found that same thing, and sure enough…

My doctor the other day: ā€œYour shirts are getting baggy - I’m going to miss those yellow and orange t-shirts!ā€

How much easier does this make things? ā€œOh, I’ll just grab that pulled brisket out of the freezer as the base for lunch.ā€

A man after my own heart!

OTOH, I’d really like to get under 100kg as my next target (now I’m pretty sure I’m safely able to say I’m 20kg down), despite weights and so on being as invented as dates and time #humans

I used to have an insanely low % of body fat when I was young and even then it was difficult for me to put on muscle mass so I don’t even think it’s genetically possible for me to get a 6-pack. It took me years of bedroom curling to get modest biceps. My legs were fairly muscular from riding a bike everywhere, from age 7-16. So, maybe in the next life…

I’m going to have to try this. Thanks for the recipe.

(Running from stupidity) #55

That’s in the Olympics, yeah?

(Carl Keller) #56

Yes but Americans are terrible at it. At least it gives non-atheletes a chance to win athletic glory…

For me, I am just planning to keep calm and keep ketoing on while continuing my daily 20:4 intermittent fasting. More of my goals for the coming year are to start doing scheduled extended fasts. I have had a couple times in the latter part of this year I was going to start by doing a 3-5 day water fast but didn’t because I wasn’t in the right frame of mind or I had food in the house that only I was going to eat and didn’t want it to go bad. Planning for fasts should make this easier by not having $25 worth of fresh pork belly in the house going bad if I don’t cook and eat it.

I need to do the same! I’ve gotten some new clothes for Christmas and a few GCs. The thing is, I don’t want buy TOO many clothes until I’m at my goal weight. Maybe I’ll get mostly leggings lol

(Running from stupidity) #59

Cha got some (quite snug) jeans from Target yesterday for $3, so she’s set for a bit

(Rose ) #60

Same here! I have a shockingly poor amount of clothes which are all baggy and worn out but I am loathed to buy new clothes that I love until I’m at a weight and shape I’m happy with!
