I think I’m very carb-sensitive. It doesn’t take much to throw me out of ketosis.
Anyone commiting carbicide on Thanksgiving Day?
Last time I came of ketosis honestly it wasn’t good at all I ended up cheating or just going off my diet which I really care about staying on given wonderful benefits and it contains most of the goodies I love to eat I’m so all about meat lol!! I enjoy some sweets at times gummies are my fav so what I did was order off amazon SMART SWEETS 1gc and also will be making a keto sweet potato pie and crab for thanksgiving not very traditional but for me it’s a family day and I use all the substitutes I need since this way I’m not putting myself out there to carried away and your body will definitely like the subs especially if you never dibble n sable n the not so keto friendly sweets in such your body will think it’s the best pie or etc it ever had
@ Assata_Earls-Hearn I will have to check out Keto sweet potato pie and your mention of crab has me thinking I should make some crab cakes this week. Thanks for that!
That’s me in December and January 2017/2018. I have 2 aunts who made and gifted me over 200 cookies (at least 20 different kinds).
Bunny, that reminds me of the commercial a while back with Cookie Monster using Siri to help him bake cookies. It didn’t air all that long … I suspect Cookie Monster was a way bigger star than Siri… but I enjoyed that one.
We are PLANNING on staying on our eating plan. I am hoping I will be successful! This will be easier because it’s just the three of us in our little nuclear family. We purchased a smoked turkey from Costco and will just do vegetable dishes for sides (I will do some mashed sweet potatoes with butter for my son but I’m passing on those). For ‘dessert’ I bought something called a ‘cheese flight’ from Costco - six different fancy cheeses and will serve with some wine at the end of the meal. That will make me feel like we are doing something festive and special but without undermining my efforts.
I love cheese plates and wine as dessert. I’m not that into sweets anyway.
You have a good plan in place, enjoy the holiday.
Your plan sounds pretty safe. Hope you enjoy it.
@collaroygal Cheese is my preferred dessert since starting keto.
I have found since I cut out sugar last March that I no longer have a taste for sweet. I have had some bites of dessert since then and just don’t enjoy it at all. I am good with frozen cherries or blueberries as a weekly treat topped with a dollop of full fat Greek yogurt and chopped nuts. If you had said to me a year ago, that would be the case, I would have NEVER believed it. I had a honey crisp apple about a month ago and found it almost cloying. It is amazing how it’s possible for tastes to change over time. It took 8 or 9 days of white knuckling when I decided to completely cut sugar out, but after that, it’s been relatively easy.
Sugar is some pretty powerful stuff… almost like a drug and for me, the withdrawal was a bit tough but I roughed it out. Now, I don’t crave it any more either and when something goes into my mouth and it tastes sweet, my first impulse is to spit it out! I’m quite pleased keto has taught me, I don’t need sugar.
We grow raspberries, so that is my favorite traditional dessert like thing. Eat frozen raspberries with HWC and some walnuts. The cheeses for dessert is very Euro. I got into those while spending a month over there decades a go.
Maybe a warning shot over the bow thanking them so much for their generosity last year. Let them know that due to health reasons you no longer eat cookies/carbs but quite enjoy cheeses, salami etc…
We obviously don’t celebrate Thanksgiving here, but I have literally extracted myself from ALL Christmas celebrations this year, Christmas Day, not getting involved, I’m going away and avoiding all distractions. It’s likely I will split 24-26th at a friends house, and a night in a hotel pampering myself!
Going to be at a really critical point in my keto mission, and should be knocking on the door of goal weight, so there is no way I’m screwing that up by drinking Baileys, eating Mince Pies, and stuffing myself with mashed potato and port!
Solid advice. I wasn’t going to bring it up, but if one them asks about my weight loss at T-day dinner, I will tell them it’s from keto and that will help bring up the conversation about not needing cookies this year. Only a few in my extended know I’m on keto and it’s been awkward trying to explain it to them. The reaction I’ve got so far is stereotypical: eating fat is bad, fasting is starving yourself etc… Usually when I tell them I feel great and haven’t felt this good in decades, they usually give me a ‘Hmmph’ and the conversation is over.
I am actually not too worried about being around all the temptation. I deal with scrumptious smelling and tasting, carb-heavy food at work (sous chef) and while the smells sometimes get my mouth watering, the urge to eat them is easily held in check. I will eat moderately but I plan to stick around 50 carbs.
Isn’t that typical?
People will listen to your ailment complaints all day long and sympathize… but you tell them how great you feel they change the subject!
Indeed it is typical. People love to hear your misery so it makes their misery sound not as bad.
