Anyone commiting carbicide on Thanksgiving Day?

(Carl Keller) #63

Apparently vodka has zero carbs. But I’m not a fan of liquor since I usually end up staring at my reflection in the commode. I suppose there’s no hope for broccoli beer or bacon beer in the near future… so I guess my drinking days are done.

The reality is, that stuffing your pie hole with carbs for a day will have little detrimental effect on someone who is following fat based nutrition. You really can’t even eat enough to recompensate glycogen. You’d have to have your feet nailed down and be force fed like a Foie Gras Goose.

If anything, eating them will be metabolically beneficial.

(Carl Keller) #65

Ironically, that’s how I feel about eating any type of liver. I know it’s really nutritious but the texture creeps me out.

(Running from stupidity) #66

No, I mean “the war on the stupid and inaccurate phrase ‘keto flu’ in order to replace it with the far more accurate phrase ‘carb withdrawal’.”

I was just taking a poke at ya.

I was just taking the opportunity to spread the gospel a little further

(Empress of the Unexpected) #69

I agree - keto flu is way too off-putting.

(Ken) #70

Technically, it’s “Anorexigenic Hormone Resistance Withdrawal”. Occurring as the hormonal resistance drops.

Your body really does like to have extra fat. It operates on the principle that every meal you eat may be the last one you have for awhile.

(Running from stupidity) #71

That’s even LESS catchy!

Croissant stuffing? Oh myyyyyy…! No keto version of that alas. I feel sort of sad I missed trying croissant stuffing in all my pre-keto years lol.

(September) #73

I browned a pound of breakfast sausage, then poured on the cornbread stuffing mix from Keto Connect’s cookbook (with modifications for dairy free). They use baby corn, which is low in carbs.

I’ve experienced it both ways so be forewarned!

My company is also keto so we are grilling ribeyes and I am fixing cauliflower mash, Brussel sprouts with pine nuts and bacon, broccoli salad and deviled eggs. That’s the keto food.

I have been requested to make my to-die-for specialties - yeast rolls that melt in your mouth and my apple pie with 2 sticks of butter in it. We are all on maintenance so can afford a little splurge. But we don’t want the traditional heavy-carbs for the rest of it.

I’ll make 1/2 portion of the rolls so no leftovers and I am also going to make a SF pumpkin pie from fresh pumpkin with a SF almond flour crust for me and the lady.

They will be there several days so I plan to have lots of keto foods before and after so we don’t feel yucky.

(Carl Keller) #75

Your quote is probably my favorite since I started in the forums. I will do my part and spread the word.

Noted! Your Thanksgiving sounds a lot like my dinner tonight… sans the pine nuts and bacon, deviled eggs and broccoli salad. It was delish.

My dad is going to have a turkey, and he is making sweet potato casserole. I will make and bring a keto side dish. My brother and sister-in-law will probably bring a dessert. My husband is making and bringing bread pudding. The bread pudding isn’t worth the carbs. It depends on what the other dessert will be if I eat some or not. I will not resist the sweet potato casserole. I will fast before and after the dinner.

We don’t do Thanksgiving in Australia but in 4 weeks my wife and I have been invited to a Greek Style Lamb on a spit with all the trimmings. My strategy will be to eat as much of the fatty lamb as I can handle, pick the eyes out of their greek salad, and take along a ketogenic cheesecake, cheers @Digital_Dave  .

At least I won’t leave feeling deprived!!

(Carl Keller) #78

I make a mean butterscotch/pecan bread pudding and a friend asked me to make her some for her birthday. It didn’t really bother me until I smelled it cooking. I guess my nose thought it was for me and mouth started watering. Had to down some pork rinds to make it stop. I actually tried a tiny morsel to make sure the taste was right but I spit it out. I was pretty proud of myself.

It seems every country/religion has its own day(s) of feasting. Is there not something in Australia?

Cheers, Terence. Hope you have a great time!

@KetoKristin - My wife actually makes a great Bread-Pudding. But it’s definitely not Keto-Friendly. If anything, it’s Keto-Angry, because you will not like the results. - But I was wondering if one could make a good Keto-Friendly version?

Kind of hard to substitute brioche. I’ve heard of some low(er) carb breads but I imagine they taste like crap. The rest of the ingredients are heavy cream, eggs, milk (which could be almond milk), sugar (which can be Erythritol), vanilla and cinnamon. You can add nuts and even dark chocolate chips, pumpkin puree or lots of other combinations. It’s really not that bad carbwise sans the bread,

(Kristin) #81

My husband makes good bread pudding. I’ve just never cared much for bread pudding. Yay! That’s ONE dessert I DON’T crave! But, a chocolate pie…:yum::heart_eyes::relieved:

Your n=1 experience may not be generally applicable. It really depends on how metabolically flexible you are. My soon to be 16 yr. old water polo playing son can eat a lintany of shit and stays skinny. That said, he regularly practices intermittent fasting because he doesn’t eat “the most important meal”, breakfast. I on the other hand over the summer fasted on Mondays and Fridays. I ate keto pretty well but on Sat. Evening I drank a bit too much wine. Sometimes it was a low residual sugar wine. Over the summer I put on lbs that I am religiously dealing with presently. I’m currently fasting 3 straight days every week. So, needless to say, YMMV…
