Anyone commiting carbicide on Thanksgiving Day?

(Mike W.) #41

I’m smoking a turkey, making gizzard gravy, Keto green bean casserole, garlic mashed cauli, maybe some Keto stuffing, and a pumpkin pie. Probably a good amount of :tumbler_glass: Yup, definitely gonna be suffering :joy:

I don’t think I’ll be committing “carbicide” but I will be doing a glycogen recompensation day. I’ll eat my last meal at Noon the day before, then eat whatever I want on Thanksgiving, including all the carbs. I’ll then Fast until I’m actually hungry. Other than temporary water weight, I won’t gain an ounce of fat.

WOW…What’s buttermilk pie???

(Justin Jordan) #44

Basically a custard pie, I think. They’re freaking delicious. It’s specifically this recipe (which, I think, I am going to try and keto up in the future):

That is 300 kCals. Gone in about 3-4 hours. Back to lipolysis (the state that is actually what matters for reducing fat).
Might be longer than that since there will be other non carb calories too - but maybe the glucose/carbs get used first?

I’ll probably get kicked out of the country for saying this, but I’m not a big fan of most of the traditional Thanksgiving foods. Really works to my advantage now!

My side of the family, our Thanksgivings are already ~90% keto friendly thanks to diabeetus, so no worries there. I’m the designated dessert dame and will bring something deliciously keto.

Husband’s side of the family is aware we’re keto so we’ll eat what we can. I’ll probably have a little gravy and maybe two bites of stuffing. I know what having a massive carb day does to me and no amount of stuffing is worth that. Well, maybe if I was making my specialty croissant stuffing, but I’m not!

(Justin Jordan) #47

I don’t either. I like stuffing, but turkey, cranberry sauce, pumpkin pie, bleh.

(Dee) #48

I will be indulging in plenty Keto friendly foods. Deviled eggs, ham, cauliflower mac and cheese, greens, salad, etc. Luckily the holiday host, my Aunt is also Keto. :slightly_smiling_face:

I suppose a minor setback is not the end of the world.

I know the feeling… of seeing something you used to love and saying “I’d rather not.”. My neighbor brought me some stuffed peppers a few days ago, and she makes the most amazing stuffed peppers. I accepted them, but gave them away at work the next day. I wasn’t even tempted even though I used to love them.

My aunt is amazing cook and a very proud woman. I once brought a store bought apple pie to Thanksgiving at her house one year and you should have seen the scowl on her face. I can’t risk offending her pride… so I might snack a little on some hi fat nuts so I have a very tame appetite when I get to her house.

Great idea to fast after I eat dinner there. I am totally going to do that. Thanks!

At least it will be a pleasant suffering… if there is such a thing.

GRD: Fancy acronym for I ate too many carbs yesterday. I love it!

Yes I wondered if someone in keto ate a bunch of carbs, would that be burned off first… or since the body is so used to using ketones, would it hit the expressway to the other end?

I would love to get some of my family (Ok a lot of my family) on keto but I don’t want to be one of those preachy vegan types trying to make people feel guilty for how they eat. I am hoping that some will notice my weight loss and ask me how I did it. Just maybe they will be interested in how keto works and give it a try… fingers crossed.

I am keto and my husband has a dairy allergy (can’t even have butter or ghee), so I experimented with some recipes over the past month or so. We are making turkey, a “cornbread” stuffing with sausage, and a pecan pie - All keto and dairy free. It seems like a good meal as is, so we don’t need anything else.

The extended family tends to be Weight Watchers, vegetarian or vegan leaning, CICO, very low fat, high volume, high carb, etc. They can bring over whatever carbage they want, but I am unlikely to be able to eat any of it (or want it for that matter).

I have no idea why I didn’t think of having deviled eggs at Thanksgiving but that’s an awesome idea!! I love deviled eggs. And I can’t think of a single person in the family that doesn’t like deviled eggs. And they’re very keto friendly, too, whether we call them that among the non-keto world or not.

Thanks!

(Dee) #53

Yes they are! Every holiday occasion I make sure to bring some.

Everyone seems to love them, non-Keto included. :yum:

(Carl Keller) #54

This sounds amazing! I am going to research this more. I would love to try some.

Deviled eggs were a main go to when I first started Keto. I would make a half dozen and leave them in the fridge until that ‘I want to eat vs I need to eat’ debate was going on in my head. Eat a deviled egg and the debate is over. It’s a good way to get your daily fat up with little effort.

#55

It’s not carbicide it’s carb loading LoL

(Beth) #56

Mmmmmm. Probably shouldn’t be here. I’m fasting. Darn that looks delicious!

(Beth) #57

Re: cornbread. Last night we had no-bean chili. My husband wished we had cornbread. So I found a keto recipe for almond flour cheddar biscuits. They were delicious!

(Running from stupidity) #58

I’m not a fan of getting together with people, works in my favour all the time

It’s all about how you sell it! (Thus the war on “keto flu”

(Carl Keller) #60

I don’t like my loved ones, but I try. Well, most of them anyway. So I endure the holiday thing with them twice a year.

Ummm don’t you mean “the war on carb withdrawal”. :stuck_out_tongue:

(Dee) #62

Ohhhh yes :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:
It is simple, inexpensive and really tasty.
