Anyone commiting carbicide on Thanksgiving Day?

(Jodi) #21

I host Thanksgiving and will cook all the traditional foods I serve every year. I am ZC, not keto, and have no plans to eat anything off my plan.
Just not worth it to me!

If your metabolically healthy it’s very likely nothing will happen. If you eating keto is suppressing inflammation, sensitive gut, if your very insulin resistant etc, you may wake up the next morning feeling like you got backed over by a bus! Coming out of ketosis isn’t what gets you, it’s the reacting to the carbs and the inflammation that they cause coupled with the little kid like super sugar high right before you crash and burn when you bottom out. Me and the wife figured out, if we’re gonna cheat, cheat good! Sounds like bad advise right? Like cheat a little would be better, for us that’s enough to spike us, and then allow us to crash and feel like crap. If we SLAM the carbs hard it’s enough to ride it out. Deal with the crash near bedtime. We don’t eat carb-y meals often, but we’ve figured out how to not regret it huge when we do because we spent MANY times doing it then waking up covered in sweat, cramping, pounding headaches, you name it. Screw that!

Why can’t you have pumpkin pie? This is Keto AF!

(John) #24

Well that looks great. I suppose there is a recipe for that floating around somewhere?

(Mike W.) #25

I’ll do my best to track it down forthwith.

Regina’s usual downfall

Look, I’m an expert in the area you mentioned, and it becomes much easier after you do it a few times

Which they aren’t, usually

(Carl Keller) #27

LOL, excellent point! I can use that when I don’t go back for seconds like everyone else. I am saving my energy for cleanup!

(Carl Keller) #28

I usually start a fast on tuesday night. I could do a 40+ hour fast before Thanksgiving. That works out perfect!

(Jeff Gilbertson) #29

ABSOLUTELY NOT.

I’ve done that in previous years and it set me on a tailspin that took until January or February to recover from.

(Carl Keller) #30

You are probably right. I worry because I’ve become addicted to feeling the way I feel now. This energy, it seems almost unfair that the rest of the world can’t enjoy it too. :sunglasses:
Happy Thanksgiving to you also!

This will be tough. I might have a few ounces at most. I hope my stomach doesn’t hate me for it. I never actually tried to be gluten free but looking back at everything I’ve eaten the past few months, I guess I am.

I used to have a great deal of inflammation from the lower back, through the knees, down to my feet if I were to be on my feet for more than 3-4 hours. My back was out of whack for probably 20 years and when I hit 40, it really started bothering. Lots of visits to chiropractor and hundreds of readjustments has it more tolerable but the inflammation was still present. Otherwise I’m pretty healthy except the 40 or so pounds (now 20) that crept onto my belly.

Haha! Love this advice, but I doubt I can put down food like I used to. I tend to get full on a lot less than I did before Keto.

Just WOW! That looks amazing.

@Screenack gave me a good angle. I’m saving my energy for clean up since everyone else will be carbdrunk.

(Carl Keller) #31

Was it difficult for you get into Ketosis and or fat adapted, the first time?

#32

I think I will do what the 2 Keto dudes suggest… if I want some comfort food, I’m going to make some Keto comfort food.
I’ll make it ahead of time. I heard the banana cream pie recipe today on 2 Keto dudes podcast. I’m gonna make one of those for sure but I’m going to stay in my macros, keep Keto just because I will feel better the next morning. I can still have the treats if you know what I mean!
The pie recipe is on 2ketodudes Podcast number 141 if you’re intrested.
Also 2ketodudes.com has a recipe link, heck, all over the internet, Keto treat and thanksgiving yum substitutes!
Whatever you choose do enjoy!

(Justin Jordan) #33

Gonna eat a whole pie.

#34

what kind?

(Doug) #35

I did it last year, totally gave in. Not a big deal, personally - just went back to ketogenic eating after a couple days. Did not feel bad, just somewhat sluggish and very aware that such things not only slow or stop progress, but actually set me back.

#36

Not planning on it this year. The past couple years have gone very well consuming only meat and salad. But then we did not make mash or gravy or stuffing - which made passing them by easy, lol.

If they were there, I’d probably partake, but not a lot. I’ve been able to just sample it at a larger Christmas gathering. It didn’t kill me, but I’d rather not. No sense reminding me of some of my past favorite foods that are no longer on the regular menu.

(Daisy) #37

The only non keto friendly food I plan to partake in is my mom’s sweet potato soufflé. She is going to try to cut the sugar down a little for me, but I will have no guilt having a bit. I’m sure I won’t feel good after, but it’s once a year so I’m ok with it. Keto on the next day, no big deal.

(Justin Jordan) #38

I am leaning towards buttermilk, but I am open to almost any pie.

(Ethan) #39

Lucky. Last time I accidentally had 50g, I broke out in cysts on my body (autoimmune disease)

This will be my third Thanksgiving eating keto. We usually do thanksgiving at home (no invites to anyones house) so everything has always been keto. You could always bring some keto side dishes, desserts, and or appetizers that are keto so you have plenty of options. If you want to have some of the non-keto stuff, have some and don’t sweat it. Just don’t go hog wild on it. I would suggest waiting to fast until after the Thanksgiving meal. That way, if you do have some non keto foods, fasting for the next 24 hours or so will speed up the process of depleting your glycogen stores. I also use this keto for the holidays cookbook a lot when preparing Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners. https://carriebrown.com/eat-smarter-holidays-e-cookbook
