Another frustrated no weight loss newbie

(Full Metal KETO AF) #42

This thread was turning into the Jerry Springer Show. @CampWoman and @cw2001 along with @PaulL (as Jerry of course) should meet up somewhere and try to beat sense into each other

But seriously isn’t private messages the best way to get agro on each other leaving the thread to it’s original topic?

I don’t know where this information comes from. Obesity and diabetes are becoming major health issues in China. It doesn’t help that western foods have become more available and affordable to the Chinese. Coca Cola, KFC, McDonalds, and an end to shortages of things like sugar added to the rice and flour/starch basics in Chinese cuisine are to blame.

Personally, I think that’s part of the appeal of a large forum. Conversations can meander, people bring in their own viewpoints, side conversations start up, etc. This place will need a lot more admins if every thread is expected to stay on topic.

I was laughing, it wasn’t meant to be serious! And not that it matters but I agreed with your stance.

Sleep and stress were my biggest impediments when it came to seeing results. And I was insulin resistant. Healing takes time internally. Depending on how much there is to happen, visible results can take a while. Some people can take up to 3 months before becoming fat adpated. If I don’t sleep a full night (7.5-8 hrs for me) I stall or gain. If I am stressing and cortisol levles are up, I definitely stall. I bounce around a 3 pound range with my sycles, even with a downward trend in weight. I use clothes as an indicator more than anything else. I also switched to 2 meals a day, in a 6 hr window. Things jump started when I added IF and EF.

Hang in there. It took me a while to see movement, but 9 months later, I am 80 pounds lighter, a1c dropped from 6.1 to 5.2 and my chronic pain is all but gone…

You can do this!

I did find the Jerry Springer thought pretty funny. Audiences might be disappointed though…I rarely get riled up or emotional.

Awesome and inspirational progress @stokiesgoneketo !

It was, but the tensions were in large part the result of misunderstandings, and the participants stepped back from the brink, so please, let’s agree to put the past behind us and move on.

Some of our goals on these forums are hard to balance: we like vigorous debate, valid science, civil discourse, and for every member to feel that these forums are a nurturing community. Of course the balance is going to tip from time to time. I’m just glad not to have to lock or delete the thread, because there were some good points being made. Let me just urge everyone to renew their commitment to civility as well as truth. To quote the poet: “All we are saying, is give peace a chance.”

Yes Paul, I agree and was attempting humor, which I think is sometimes lost on others. It was tongue in cheek.

I am right there with you, sister. I started 1/2 and haven’t lost much of anything, other than water weight. I also have PCOS. I am keeping my net carbs under 30 net, most often 20 or under. After reading suggestions, I know I need to increase water. I am not hungry or thirst most of the day, so I haven’t been drinking hardly any water, at all. I am going to nix those days at over 20 net carbs, too. Good luck!

I don’t know if it helps but I’m 50, 5’9” and had 70lbs to lose. I don’t drink a ton of water. I don’t exercise a lot - walking several times a week. I keep to 20 whole carbs. I follow the food list on Keto by Casey - which was given to me by my obesity specialist. I’m going to him because it’s important to me to lose weight in a healthy way and keep it off - both of my parents have had several forms of cancer. My dad died at age 49.

Since the end of Sept. 2018, I’ve lost about 20 lbs. it’s about a pound a week average. I lost 7 lbs at the beginning, then nothing for 3 weeks, then at about 6 weeks, it started coming off a little a day. I’ve tried a lot of things. Went off a statin, tried to remove myself from an antacid, drank more water, less water, decreased fat, increased fat. Whatever. It still happens slowly but it happens.

I cannot tell you how frustrating it is to hear about men (and women) who are fast losers. Oh wait - I don’t have to because you probably already know. Don’t let it get to you and keto on.

Sorry, I did mostly get the humor, but the rest of it did need saying, for the record. That was my focus, or I’d have enjoyed your post more visibly.:smile:

@corkscrew7 I strongly recommend reading the Atkins book, specifically the induction phase. Also, Dr. Eric Westman has a one page what to eat summary for beginners. What you are eating is great, but not for beginners. That to me is a maintenance type diet. For example, I didn’t eat a tomato, berry or nut for my first year or more. Hope that helps, keep up the good work. Progress, not perfection…

Yes that helped me too.

I only stuck to the straight and narrow for a couple of weeks not a full year (wow), yet I was in ketosis and burning fat so all good. But a few weeks later I started to get a bit loosie-goosie about berries, nuts, yogurt, and I stopped losing, had to backtrack.

I definitely recommend the more restrictive food item list for beginners. And really be sure to nail the 20g Net Carbs, if not in ketosis then do 20g Total Carbs.

There is no point in “trying keto” but not actually really getting into ketosis. So close yet so far.

(less is more, more or less) #55

Or, you can combine them all, including Drs Atkins, Westman, Phinney and Volek, here:

https://www.amazon.com/New-Atkins-You-Ultimate-Shedding/dp/1439190275

I haven’t read it, but Dr. Westman is my doctor, so I got this.

Wow, nice one

He has a lot of YouTube vids on his “Ask Adapt” channel, mostly 5-10 minutes but better than hours and hours of drivel found else where.

The folklore forum or “grass roots” version of “how to keto” doesn’t always match up! Amazingly people think they must be right, “so many people are saying it”, “he isn’t keeping up with the latest research” (really?)…

(Running from stupidity) #57

I’m interested to see what you think of it.

(Empress of the Unexpected) #58

It’s keto at stage one - then carbs are gradually added in. Same as the original Atkins.
