@KetoMomof2teens @VirginiaEdie You two just gave me a serious belly laugh!

:laughing::joy::joy::joy: :cowboy_hat_face:

#843

That would include beef cattle?

(Full Metal KETO AF) #844

Do you equate selective breeding with GMO? In that case we humans are GMO! Seriously though, are there actual genetically modified animals we eat, or is it just selective breeding? :cowboy_hat_face:

#845

Meat cookies with icing for lunch. :yum:

#846

update… chaffle (made with shredded irish cheddar + egg mmmm) + liverwurst creation + burger patty. Tasty!

(Daisy) #847

Oh I’m sure. that’s why you want to buy from your local farmer to know what you’re getting. Or raise your own preferably. I have considered it, but we haven’t made the plunge yet. So we get from a local acquaintance.

(Full Metal KETO AF) #848

What does this possibly mean to a carnivore? That if you grow them yourself they don’t contain anti nutrients or that they aren’t the man made result of fake selective breeding? Extra sugar, bigger fruits and vegetables, less fiber? Hybrids that didn’t exist a couple of decades ago? Isn’t it reasonable to question the health of these like any other plant a carnivore avoids? You can’t breed out anti nutrients. If anything plants are hybridized to be more “pest resistant” i.e. higher levels of plant made pesticides whether you grow organic or not. :cowboy_hat_face:

(Daisy) #849

Absolutely you can question the health of it. I’m a big proponent of doing what works for your body. Not all carnivores are created equal lol. By definition, carnivore means meat eater. I like the term hypercarnivore. Scott from carnivorecast talks about this a lot. It means at least 70% of your diet comes in the form of meat. I am about 95% carnivore currently. I eat 100% carnivore 95% of the time lol. Then I have days like last Saturday that I ate about 80% carnivore lol. I do carnivore for my health. I feel good when I eat this way. But that’s not to say I’m going to eat this way forever. I’m having a lot of digestive problems lately, and if they don’t straighten up in the next month or two, I may lean back towards keto for awhile. I try to follow what my body tells me and I would hope everyone does the same. I personally don’t think all veggies are evil. Just that I’m eliminating them currently. I’m no scientist, just self a experiment-or. You’ve gotta do what works for you.

I had liquid you-know-what from my switch to carnivore. I’ve been lessening my electrolyte supplementation (no extra salt and less magnesium) and things are improving.

(Daisy) #851

That’s what I’ve been trying starting today, lessening my salt intake. So far so good! No upset tummy after lunch!! Woot woot!

(Daisy) #852

So I guess it was just delayed… tummy trouble ever since I got home…

(Full Metal KETO AF) #853

@Ketodaisy You’re having trouble with digestion on Carnivore then? I assumed it was vegetable related. I’ve recently been hardly eating veg and I had a bloat/cramp/farting issue about 10 days ago when I suddenly decided to get some cauliflower. I’ve never had a problem with crucifers or brassicas before that as far as I know. I think it upset the groove my digestion was in, like a curveball. I wasn’t ready for it anymore. Subsequently I ate some more a couple days later with no ill effect. I hope you’re feeling better soon. I would do something not recommended by the general Carnivore camp and fast for a day to clean out, but that’s just me and my rebellious self. I think taking the stress off of digestion for a day or two when you’re gut is off is a sound idea, to purge whatever’s in there. :cowboy_hat_face:

(Daisy) #854

Yeah I’m having trouble with digestion on carnivore. No bloating or gas, which was a huge issue on SAD diet, but usually within 20 minutes of eating I have to RUN to the bathroom. It’s been this way for over a month. I’ve played around with my fat intake and now I’m playing with my salt intake. So far so success. I had no issues the first month on carnivore, but have ever since.
Thank you!

So just what I’ve gleaned from others, not my experience here. Too much fat and or salt…diarrhea. Also many seem to have problems with rendered fat and butter compared with fat on meat. So if you just cook a steak and salt to taste that sends you running to the bathroom too? Do you drink much coffee? I recently got a new Espresso machine and I have been dialing in the technical details of grind, dose and timing and drinking a lot of coffee this last week. It’s definitely had an effect on stool composition moving down a notch on the Bristol scale! :coffee::coffee::coffee::coffee::coffee::coffee:

:cowboy_hat_face:

(Daisy) #856

I drink zero coffee. Only water and the occasional bone broth.
Today I just cooked a chuck steak and barely salted it to taste while eating it, as the first day of this trial. Usually I salt while cooking, salt when done, then salt to taste lol. Decided that was maybe a bit too much!! So I didn’t have to run right after eating, but a couple hours later when I got home.
I did have a dose of airborne right before I left work, so I’m wondering if that may have been a factor… :face_with_monocle:
I just had dinner of lean ground beef with some added beef cracklings, 3 spoons of liver pate and a chicken leg. I salted the chicken leg, but not the ground beef. Barely finished my last bite of chicken leg before having to RUN to the bathroom…

Tomorrow I’ll skip the airborne and see if that helps

This is from the meat health website. Maybe something will help.

4. Solving GI Problems

Gastrointestinal (GI) issues are extremely common, especially if you are coming from a low fat diet.

Even though you are ready to dive all in, your gallbladder and pancreas might not be ready to handle the increased fat intake. When first starting you may have inadequate bile and lipase to digest the increased fat intake. This leads to diarrhea and all kinds of GI distress.

One solution: You can reduce how much fat you’re eating by choosing leaner cuts of meat. I don’t recommend this approach. This will simply prolong the adaptation period. Translation = you will suffer far longer than you need to.

Much Better Solution: Supplementing for 2-4 weeks

Supplement Solution:

Start with a simple lipase supplement taken a few minutes BEFORE meals.

This is the one I used.

It freed me from the toilet after spending two weeks married to it.

  • Start with 1 tablet and if you still have some discomfort go to 2.
    • 6,000 lipase activity unites LU

For most people, lipase alone does the trick. However, some people need to exogenous bile.

Ox bile , taken with meals, is your next step.

Your final step, if still having GI issues, especially, if they are GERD/acid reflux related is to help the stomach. Many people produce inadequate stomach acid to facilitate digestion and proper metabolic signaling. Yes. It’s low stomach acid that results in GERD, Heartburn, Acid Reflux.

A Betaine HCl supplement is the answer. Don’t take this with anti-inflammatories which could result in ulcers. It should automatically include pepsin in it, but worth checking just to make sure. Common dosage range between 3-5g/meal.

Supplements are a BRIDGING STRATEGY – NOT A LONG TERM NEED. The goal is to be off all of these after the first month. They let your body catch up.

The beef industry is an industry. They’ll find ways to increase the market and profits. The cutting edge is direct genetic modification.

The beef cattle breeding technologies have rapidly transformed from traditional breeding to molecular marker-assisted breeding, genomic selection and genetic modification breeding. Hundreds of candidate genes and molecular markers associated with growth, meat quality, reproduction performance and diseases resistance have been identified, and some of them have already been used in cattle breeding.

For me it seems to be the fat lever. If I have too much fat my body lets me know very soon after eating. Also, drinking water with or very soon after eating = :running_man: :poop:

(Daisy) #860

I will look into the supplements and continue to lower my fat and sodium intake for a few days to see if it helps. I guess I can try the water thing too. Tbh, it’s really starting to get tiresome, it’s been every meal, every day for weeks.

Time also guys. Time on plan. Fat adapted. Truly fat adapted body.

I am long term carnivore. I don’t play in the plant food game at all.
So I got the perfect guts at this point. I can eat so much fat and never have to hit the bathroom ever…thing is I KNOW what amt of fat I require in a day. I know when I am ‘fatted’ out and comfortable in my amt. I truly feel it in my body…that is why you see me eating seafood along with my beef. My fatty steaks and butter use, at some point I just naturally default to seafood. I want less fat. Simple as that.

So gut issues will fix up if you are mostly a medically sound person and not going into this with any true medical troubles.

Thing is the more you go in and out of carnivore, the worse of all of the adaption you keep getting. Key to carnivore is stay carnivore and give it time. Time on plan without deviations heals.

I know we got some plant eaters not sure which way they want to go…it is ok cause we all have a journey to find our final eating plan for each of ourselves, kinda like that where am I now and where will I be later? All we can do is experiment but every time a carnivore eats off plan and jumps on the plant wagon or junky food wagon, you shoot yourself in the foot. Just saying on that as a general info. put out there for everyone. I mean it is just a fact and we all have to find our way to what we want long term.

But I don’t have issues at all. I know my fat intake thru my body and what it needs. I got the perfect bathroom situation every single day and I can eat a hell of a lot of fat before I even think I can’t take another bite  So with time on plan…big time on plan…what you know now asbout your carnivore plan and how you feel will change more. All good changes. Longer and longer on the true plan and the best comes to you even better!
