Another Carnivore Thread

I pretty much have less impulses to drink anymore. It’s usually during a social situation now for me. That good bottle of Scotch will keep forever. Now you can savor a dram or two on special occasions like seeing an old friend or your birthday. That’s how I do it. I seem to enjoy it with friends when I do drink.

@BlueViolet The wicked old lady thing is an act and we all know it. :hugs:

had an awesome Chuck Eye steak and 2 eggs for dinner yesterday. Sousvide the steak at 130F for 4 hours and seared it in a cast iron skillet with a few drops of avocado oil. Amazing steak! Try Chuck Eye if you can find it. I got two last time and grilled one right off, and vacuum sealed the other after letting it air dry for about 3 days in my refrigerator. The grilled one was okay, the second one was like it was transformed into beef tenderloin. Perfectly red all the way through with a thin sear crust. I’m grilling Chicken Thighs today. @barefootbob @Fangs do you guys ever eat chicken? I know it’s not the optimal carnivore meat but I sure like it. I’m going to keep eating some because I like to break up the routine with some variety like fish and poultry. :cowboy_hat_face:

I eat chicken sometimes. I like skin on dark meat like thigh.

#63

Ain’t buying it.

See…and here i am in the minority who will never know what its like to drink a beer or lager or hard drink. I was blessed(?) or cursed(?) with being allergic to alcohol. The smallest amount sends me into seizures(found that out from downing 1/2 bottle Mikes Hard Lemonade on my 19th birthday at a suave cocktail lounge…yep…never again).

I will never understand what its like to be drunk or to experience whatever feelings one senses from drinking alcohol(inhibition perhaps? or “hanging loose?”) Sigh…

(hottie turned hag) #65

Me either. I’m a lifelong teetotaler.

#66

you’re not missing much unless you long to say and do things that you’ll regret the next day

Redmond Real salt fine is what we use.

I used to live on chicken thighs til one day I cooked a bunch and could not stand the taste. I literally couldn’t take a another bite of it in my lifetime.

Now what I eat is skinless boneless chicken breast. I sautee it in grass fed butter, smidge of salt, pepper and bit of paprika and eat the heck out of it. I used to eat a ton of chicken for the skin and dark meat…tons of chicken wings which is rare now also, they don’t thill me like old days of eating…now it is only skinless boneless and I thoroughly enjoy that only now on chicken.

I eat quite a lot as in this challenge my food will be listing chicken breast a lot. Some days tho I have to skip it cause I must have dense like a ribeye. But yea chicken is a staple for me but the kind of chicken I eat has changed.

Sleep continues to be much better.
Last night I was in bed just after 9, unusual for me but I’m trying to prioritize sleep as I went for years getting 6 or less hours most nights.
I actually woke up about 10-15 minutes before my alarm. I reset it and laid back down just to see if I could snooze a bit since the house was nice and quiet but I was awake so went ahead and got up at 5.
I’m down to 1 cup of caffeinated coffee now whereas it used to be 2. I still like a cup or two of decaf just because I love the taste and warmth of coffee in the morning. This morning I actually poured some of the regular cup out as I had had enough caffeine.
Yesterday I fasted until supper, wasn’t intentional, I just skipped breakfast and went to church with the kids. We spent all day out and about and I didn’t eat until we got home. No problem.

#70

that is bizarre. 2 days ago I couldn’t stop yawning and went to bed at 9:12…I remember the exact time cause I am a night owl and this was unheard of LOL and my hubby thought I didn’t feel well or something. Nope, just tired. I slept straight thru to 4:30 am. 7 1/2 straight hrs. is huge for me. I am usually a 5-5 1/2 hr sleeper. But even last night I hung it up at 10:20 cause I couldn’t keep my eyes open and up at 5:30 am. I am also sleeping earlier now. huh.

I know I do better with a bit more sleep so I am fine with it all

I don’t even call it fasting. Everytime I say I fasted til whatever someone thinks I am doing it ‘on intention’…like an IF window and I hate that. I am not IFing in any way. Won’t ever do that. I have extreme natural not hungry times…lol…I can go very long without food til I HAVE to stop and eat or fall over.

When I’m talking to non-keto folks I typically avoid the F word. It’s one of the things that freaked me out on the forums and in podcasts when I started. I think there’s a lot of disordered stuff with some keto folks and fasting.
Basically, if I’m busy, not hungry, or it’s just an inconvenient time I just don’t bother with eating. I refuse to schedule meals for myself anymore. It’s nice not to be on the hangry roller coaster.
Yesterday I didn’t want to eat before church and was just busy with the kids after. They ate after church but there was nothing there I could eat so no big deal. That’s a nice feeling, I just talked to the other adults as they ate.

#72

yea I sure see the disorder you are talking about. it curls my toes to no end but if one steps in and says don’t do that the backlash would be insanity. ain’t going there one bit but I so get your drift.

you hit the nail on the head. it is no big deal not eating. this is the best part of it all.

we are rv’ers cause we love to camp and all that. boondocking and lakes to launch the kayaks and fishing etc…just some backstory here…but the best part…I have an rv kitchen and grill and a campsite I cook MY OWN meals. I do for me all the time. Family is not my lifestyle at all.

So I eat a ton of bacon before going out sightseeing and am fine and they had a waffle at the camper and are starving within hours so here comes the restaurants. I sit and sip water. I don’t require anything while they go vacay food nuts…haha. I have absolutely no problem with this. I just walk around, eye some restaurants and pick the ‘steakhouse’ as our other meal and have at my meat. They get whatever…but I am never in a hurry to eat cause I know back at the rv there is a ton of meat to be grilled for me  I got my bases covered at all times for me…heehee….do what ya gotta do when ya gotta do it.

I used to carry emergency beef sticks in my purse…done with that now.

It is the best feeling in the world. Not controlled by food in any manner. But when I do eat I eat like royalty and get the best benefits from it. What is better than that? Not a darn thing to me LOL

#73

I’ve done IF for a while but not intentionally. It just happens because of how satiated I get during the day.

#74

Exactly so you are not IFing at all.
The ‘IF’ word is truly a planned fast. Intentionally limiting food even if you starve doing it…why go there? I ain’t ever LOL

you are eating as your plan allows and don’t need to go into that IF stuff ever.

drop the IF association…we eat and not eat and thrive.

#75

Ok ok…I didn’t bother to eat until supper on Sunday. I went ahead and ate at around 10:40 this morning.
Kind of a mixed bag today, 6 egg yokes, some fatback, I had some tinned oysters in the desk drawer so having those. Might finish up with some kippers. Beef, liver, beef fat is on the menu for tonight.

I think IF is very healthy. I have found the perfect eating pattern for me. It’s tied to my circadian rhythms and I sleep better doing IF. I’m very comfortable with it. But I never force it and it’s not a religion. If my son is staying with me or I’m being social I am flexible. I try to finish my eating about 3pm so my gut is pretty empty by bedtime. This gives me much better sleep. And my fuel is delivered early in the day when I have more opportunity to use it rather than storing it during periods of lesser activities like the nighttime. So I fast between 17-19 hours most days effortlessly.

I like food early and eat a good breakfast, often my biggest meal. It’s a power load for the day of fat and protein.

I agree that fasting can be attractive to people with anorexic tendencies and other eating disorders but fasting was a natural part of our hunter gatherer primal living for the whole history of man. It’s been incorporated into almost all religions at various times throughout the year. It’s a healthy cleanse for your body and stimulates autophagy which is vital for your health and longevity. It helps rid your body of damaged cells and unnecessary protein structures like broken down fat tissue and loose skin and thwarting pre cancerous growths.

In the modern world where conveniently available 24/7 food is a reality this isn’t something that naturally occurs like it did historically. We didn’t always have freezers full of meat. Snacking and eating when you feel like it is a very recent phenomenon for man.

Training your body into adopting healthy eating rhythms is as important as developing healthy sleep patterns. But always remember life needs some flexibility and nothing should feel forced or confined. Feasts are also part of the fasting cycle too. :cowboy_hat_face:

Same here. When I wake up I’m ready for a good breakfast to start the day and that meal keeps me going until around 3 when I eat again and that’s it for the day. I end up being in the 16/8 window but not intentionally. I absolutely love how keto/carnivore keeps me so satiated. Totally amazing.

Fasting has its place for sure. There was a fasting place in Ohio years ago and a guy had just come from the Cleveland Clinic with an enlarged heart. He was told he needed a heart transplant, etc. He fasted instead and by the time his fast was over his heart was totally restored and healthy.

#78

I typically just eat twice a day, occasionally once a day, sometimes but less often three times. I don’t snack. I just eat when I’m ready. Technically it’s probably IF since I almost always give myself at least 12 hours out of 24 without eating. It’s just not dogmatic or necessarily planned. I need to start eating supper earlier but because of kids it keeps being pushed later. I get off work at 5:30, they have theater tonight so by the time I get them fed then turn to my own food it’ll be probably be 8. Hate eating that late. Luckily once their play is over I’ll have a short break before baseball starts up. Then summer theater, then soccer, then…

#79

agreed.

fasting in itself is fab. no doubt about it.

one can set an intentional fast in their life and thrive, other’s do that IF like it is a rule and live or die by it, if they have troubles doing it, they feel they failed etc.

hunter had no issues with ‘timed’ IF cause it was not a thing. No kill, no eat. Normal for life. Always a kill…always food on the plate. No IF…no kill it happened.

IF’er will intentionally not eat on purpose on a set limit…5 hr eating window…or 8 hr window, whatever they do best by but if they are hungry and don’t eat…I think that is where the troubles lie.

(Full Metal KETO AF) #80

Yes. If that’s a consistent problem it may lie in what you’re eating or if it’s enough nutrient dense food at the meal. Chances are they are forcing caloric restriction thinking that’s part of IF as a rule. The key is eating enough to be satisfied till the next meal. I do sometimes feel a few mild stomach rumbles in the evening. That’s when the SAD eater will usually snack while watching TV. I just drink some water and it goes away. It’s not really hunger, it’s just being empty. I actually feel fine and not hungry. In the age of processed foods people interpret empty as hungry and it’s likely they are crashing on BG levels. Switching to a fat burning metabolism we sometimes have to learn the difference between empty and hungry when we associate empty with running out of fuel. I’m just saying this in general not about anyone here chatting. :cowboy_hat_face:
