Angus August Carnivore

(Karen) #162

Morning everyone :slightly_smiling_face:

Up fairly early again and also once again taking life at a slower pace. Back out in the garden sitting and reading. Loving my current read, ā€˜Don’t just sit there… have Faith’ by Ronald Dunn. Bringing up lots of answers to lots of questions and I am really enjoying the reflection. Nearly finished the book but it will be worth picking up again in the future to re-read. Oh how I love this warmer weather… it makes me have to move my chair around the garden to find cooler spots that still have a bit of sun peeking through. I have Brunch in the oven, home spiced chicken wings, they should be ready in approx 20 mins now and once eaten I will pop over to my daughters house and play with and cuddle Astrid for an hour or so, before coming home again to find a cool spot to sit and do some more reading. Some could say I am being very lazy but I feel so peaceful at this slower pace that I am not worrying about exercising for the time being. I will pick that up again maybe next week when the cooler weather returns. As for now the weather is increasing in temperature and set to keep rising through to Sunday. Thankfully it isn’t humid and the nights have dropped temp enough to allow a slight cool breeze to drift into my bedroom. I am not expecting that to continue necessarily as the temp rises and will probably have to resort to the noisy fan. Oooo best go check on my chicken wings, time is nearly up.

#163

yea I had to drop beer also. the taste is crazy icky now. if I drink one it is a very rare thing, maybe 1 every 2-3 yrs. Such an odd flavor like you said to me also.

@Karen18
that is interesting on the 3 sheets to the wind info. I had no idea but darn it makes sense. I think we all been ā€˜very floppy’ a time or 2 in our lives, lol

great pics and Astrid is so cute! Let Astrid see the rattie family, they won’t be around for long maybe then

@Ketodaisy
very smart to go back very slow. 15 days for a religious reason and girl ya did it! I hope it accomplished the good you wanted it to be for you!!

so true and this is why we do it  you are finding alot out about you which is great. it shows us alot about what we can handle when we try to add back a tiny bit, alot of times our bodies really don’t like having alot back…your chick pic looks delish!!

--------------Like I just said to JJ the body don’t like some stuff but ya keep on trying to have it back. Pizza topping. I had 2 pizza tops with mozz cheese and pepperoini. family ordered a large pizza and I scraped 2 big slices. My body does not like soft cheese, like mozz. Within an hr I was hitting the bathroom :eyes::crazy_face: a few times but I got the guts better but darn ya know, I try, just try to have some mozz cheese and boom, turns the guts to mush. I can eat all hard cheese, no issues, soft stuff like mozz, cream cheese, right thru me. OK enough of that, lesson learned again on that one :exploding_head:

took the knee out again.

kid got jellyfish’d.

we were bobbing the waves and boogie boarding the bigger ones having fun and whammo, she got a massive hit on the front thigh. big big welts. She was OW OW OW’ing and I helped her to shore and then I stepped kinda sideways to check out her sting area and a big waves slammed but I braced my bad knee and whammo, knee took a side hit and then I was saying OW OW OW, omg the stupidity of all this :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

got vinegar on kids jelly hit and then I could do nothing. barely hobble around all day and night. Woke up today it is a tad better but I am DOING NOTHING today but hobble around the rv, goof off, watch tv in camper, drive the golf cart around goofing off but no way I am taxing this knee more right now. I need better so I can swim and try to metal detect tomorrow.

come on ya know…the universe giving me a knee issue and from basically doing nothing to get it?? WTH? but I will deal.

Told hubby after pizza cheese incident I am going to super duper very very simple zc and stick to what I do best on and that is it!! ugh…oh well, I love my eating but it isn’t worth the misery a bit of extra does to me…and it is zc ya know. cheese and pepperoni only but wow. my body said heck no and it showed me fast

OK on to a quiet easy day at the beach for me…carnivore on strong everyone!!!

Now I got a nice rum drink in my mind for today, maybe 2 if I can handle it. but my luck I will get floppy and hurt my knee more HAHA I might rethink that rum drink for today :sunny:

IMG_1187

that is the back of my thigh from my big jelly hit with alot of little red spots around it but darn this big one is starting to itch like crazy now.
icky pic, sorry guys, no one really wants to see this do they HA

#165

Watch Funny Farm with Chevy Chase.

Never knew that sheep testicles were part of any cuisine, but apparently they are. And, go by a different name…Rocky Mountain Oysters.

#166

Ouch! That looks really painful. I hope it goes soon and isn’t driving you nuts!

#167

@VictoriaA… not too nuts but I do have itchy icky moments :eyes: but I have to say, when my kid got jelly’d yesterday in the water and a lady came up and said, you guys got bite? and I said yes me yesterday and her today and she said, my hubby just got stung all over his lower calf and she is like, you wanna swim that and I am now thinking, damn maybe I don’t wanna go back in there HAHA

but I will. salt water/ocean to me is healing…funny ironic statement that when I come up with stings  but darn I love the salt ocean water so much.

eh, I figure if this is what throws at me this is super simple and easy compared to what others have to tackle in life, must keep good attitude thru it cause the worse out there so many experience so I gotta just say, a big DAMN to the crazy and let it slide

Like SB said above on the Funny Farm movie, I might be making my own Funny Creepy RV movie as I live and breath, all the stupid useless annoying crap that goes down

#168

OW!!! grab some itch cream! And Geez! Your knee??? Ice pack would be helpful right about now. Do you have access to any ice or those instant ice packs ? Turned out to be some kinda vacation, eh? I sure hope the knee heals up quick…that is the worst.

Well, kiddo is taking her driving test today at noon today. Please pray. This child can be so headstrong, and thinks she knows EVERYTHING, very difficult to teach. She’s had plenty of driving experience, but, I just don’t know how she will handle of the pressure of driving with someone she doesn’t know.

Getting the details hammered out for Mom’s memorial service. While planting the flowers at the gravesite with Dad last week, we had a conversation about the service and finding caterers for the luncheon. I told Dad IF there were no caterers available- and only IF - then I could put something together. I guess half of the conversation didn’t really register w him, so he took part of it and ran with it. Told everyone I was doing the luncheon, so we just needed to take care of finding a caterer for the family reunion. LOL! I love Dad.

I am working the next 6 days in a row…all afternoon shifts. Will go between carnivore, IF and EF. Going out to check for chicken eggs now. Have a lovely day!

#169

@SecondBreakfast, ahhh SB sending hugs thru all that with the memorial and more and then now you are doing the catering

Yea iced the knee for sure and it helped. I do have anti itch cream and antiboitic triple cream and yes all of it is going on that darn thing :sunny:

doing well and it sounds like you are doing ok thru your super hectic and tough life issues right now but you sound like such a strong person SB that I know you got all that is coming at ya

Sending good vibes to your kiddo and driving. My kid is right there too and she said to me the other day, who gets right of way? and I am like you drove tractors, golf carts, ATVs and more and I am like ya don’t know this? and I thought, yea cause she was ā€˜never on real roads driving a car’ but she can drive LOL and yea they think they know it all but I get your kid will pass with flying colors and then out and about she goes to learn real truths on the road  Your kiddo will be fine!!

(Edith) #170

Ooooo, that looks painful. I’ve never been stung by a sea nettle, but I’m a wimp and pretty much have always avoided places that have them at this time of the year.

You should get one of those knee supports to get you through the rest of your vacation.

#171

I am so miserable when even a tad sick… My brain is off, it’s working when I need thinking but still something isn’t okay. But maybe it’s the combined hotness (not over 30C but still horrible especially now, I seem to be more sensitive to it at the moment) and my disturbed sleep (my throat and needing to pee woke me up. the latter is usually impossible but I drink hot liquid ALL the time now).

I try not to go off much but I give myself anything that has any chance to make me feel a bit better. I had my best remedy in the morning, not very carby but not carnivore at all… And had tea with lemon and raw garlic. Nothing helped this far :frowning: But they usually work :frowning:

But my main food is a few eggs and 510g pork (it’s fried pork as usual so I made no photo. it’s quite pretty by the way :)), I am halfway, no appetite and I am always full with liquid but I do get hungry. I think. Hard to tell with my current body. But I don’t want to risk to feel even worse with some masked need for fuel.

I went to the town as Alvaro used the car and that’s only an hour walk (it should be less but the first time since years - it was sleet then - I didn’t even run in the slopes where it’s normally irresistible. I was melting and unwell)… And we bought lots of 70/30 pork so I will have lard again! And those skinless cracklings I like  The price is still the usual low and it has no 2kg limit… So I bought 3kg. I don’t need much as my main pork is leaner. This is just the lard generating stuff and I need very little lard per week.

@Fangs: Ouch, get better! It can’t be nice at all. Itchiness is pretty annoying!
I only get caught by some sticky vines (they are everywhere around the pond) and all the thorns in my garden. And that is enough for me, I bleed often due to flora! The fauna isn’t against me.
Nothing had anything worse than a wasp/bee/ant bite (Hungarian ones, not Australian…). My country has a cute fauna. We don’t even have many mosquitos in this drought (of course those find me but only if I am outside. my room is safe this year, it’s very unusual).

I fancy some Super Simple Days in my near future and don’t understand why I ever complicated it (except when I got bored)… Sometimes I think back and just can’t understand past me. If I keep thinking, I figure out some reasons but it’s still odd.
And I am slightly annoyed that my throat messed up my planned pork+eggs+maybe tongue plan. I am close to it but I finally want something pure. I have such desires sometimes.
I plan to experiment so much! I wondered about fat fast too, I did it back then but HOW? I doubt I can do the same now, maybe a very fatty but not that extreme day? But I go for leaner ones now, I am content with this pork I use lately. Sometimes I worry I will get bored but the next day it’s all fine again and if not, I have some lower proper meat day and it fixes it. Or a (not wild) rabbit appears
For some reason, I am curious and want to do extreme days, nothing bad just unusually lean or fatty, just for a single day and no force as I never do that. I got curious again. I have times when I just eat according to my experiences and desires if I have any but sometimes I really want to test my limits a bit more…

Beer. I can’t say much about the taste as I tried zillion kinds, super sweet ones, banana ones, bitter ones, they are all very different! I know I don’t like most beers here as they are bitter. Not super bitter, that was a fancy monastery beer, Alvaro liked it. I don’t like sweetened beers either but sometimes something is okay-ish… But nothing special, I don’t want that. I would want some Glenlivet whisky, I don’t even care about the age… That is great stuff. The first bottle lasted for 4 years as we both drink alcohol that often and much  Booze won’t be my problem ever I imagine.
So I drink carbonated water instead of beer now  I can even flavor it if I want, I usually don’t but I have mint plants and other things in my garden.
I used to drink vodka (a bottle lasted for 2 years for us 2…?) but it’s not fun anymore.
So it’s a few drops of Stroh80 here and there now, not every month I think… And I may taste wine in December when we get a bottle.
So alcohol is mostly in the past but I keep the right to drink as much and as often as I want. That’s a few times a year, never more than 20ml unless it’s wine, I manage a small glass then…? Negligible, I shouldn’t even write so much about it.
I wonder if it’s connected to the fact that my drinks are usually simple, mostly water or plain tea, sometimes a coffee. I do have egg milks as they come handy sometimes and it’s good to use up the little leftover egg or cream in the bowl after whipping it and using it… But that’s it. As I typically drank alcohol for the flavor and fun and I get my flavor and fun mostly from my food now… But maybe they aren’t connected. But I think they are. My food/drink consumption got simpler. Still pretty good and I like simplicity.

The pizza topping eating was always SUPER weird to me. Okay, the topping is nice but the main thing of a pizza is the crust. That makes it pizza. The topping is super important too but the crust is vital. And if I want topping, I grab some sauce and cheese and whatever, I don’t strip the slice  I wonder if people in this country do that stripping, never heard but I am almost a hermit, I don’t know people.
It’s not a critique, each to their own, just my attitude.
My tastebuds dislike mozzarella  But I surely mentioned once that Alvaro’s Mom said that mozzarella in Italy isn’t tasteless. It is here. People still love it.

@Ketodaisy: Congrats! That’s a loooooong one!

(Karen) #172

@Shinita I have been bitten all over… gnats I think, I did have a couple of mozies in my bedroom about a week ago but I got them both and haven’t had any more in the room. I woke up one morning and had about 4 bites and then I got some more while sitting in my Boa one day. Then I got a few more. A couple are right in my arm pit which of course continually rubs them causing them to itch, no matter how often I put the relief cream on. I reckon I should buy some insect repellent! The pesky little buggers manage to get in all the creases of your skin!

@Fangs ouch your thigh looks bad … makes me feel I shouldn’t moan about my gnat bites lol! And now your daughter too and your knee again talk about being in the wars!

Had my chicken wings and they were lovely and just spiced enough with hot pepper sauce, in fact I think I was running out of the stuff when I shook some drops in the bag.

Spent a an hour and half with Astrid the Dragon Cat this afternoon then back home and cooked a rump steak. Had that with my special butter and just now had a couple of beef burgers again with the butter.

Had a much braver rattie at the bird feeder this early evening. I was thinking they are very well fed and looking pretty healthy and plump and wondered what fried rat tastes like  I wouldn’t lol but if prices go sky rocketing out of my price range …:thinking:

Got to be better than this ā€˜weed’ that I pulled out of the holly tree planter … where the heck did it come from???

Rattie or spud? …no contest :rofl::rofl:

(Linda ) #173

Still trying to keep it simple had a couple hungry days last week one I ate more bacon at night the other pork rinds…but I try to get back to my normal eating asap

Today was bacon and eggs + coffee later will be flanken ribs+ coffee

@ karen No rats for me lol…

#174

In the end I never got hungry again but maybe my general feeling and the all time drinking interferes. I am kind of hungry now but no appetite and it’s almost midnight (though that never stopped me. maybe I need food to be able to sleep. the coughing is bad enough).
Unless I tracked very unwell, I ate very little (barely more than what is advised to dieter girls… I never ever can comprehend how anyone can eat that super little) and low-fat despite the 25g added fat I used (but maybe it’s in the uneaten food, who knows? not me and it’s not that important, I just want some vague info)…

I am a bit hot (not the room temp, mine. not a fever but higher than usual. I didn’t have a fever since quite a few decades, it was a childhood thing for me) and want to be fully healthy in the morning. But I have plans and am determined to do things anyway. My mood isn’t particularly bad, I am just a bit miserable physically. But no headache so yay, that would be WAY worse. I don’t even have any painkillers as the usual stopped working long ago. Maybe I should get some new, maybe I just should stop getting headaches…

I think I go and eat some tongue. That sounds nice.

(Daisy) #175

Recap of reintroduction phase: I broke my fast last night at exactly 360 hours (15 full days). Yes, I stood there and stared at that egg on the plate for 6 minutes :joy:. I had had an extra bowl of broth an hour before to prepare my stomach. Unfortunately, there was no preparing my stomach. Serious digestive distress proceeded and lasted for a couple hours. This morning I wasn’t hungry at all, so I didn’t eat. By the time I was a little hungry, I knew I had to take my kid to the ortho and didn’t want more tummy troubles, so I just waited. Had to stop at the store and found the most beautiful, incredible, fatty ribs on markdown. As much as I absolutely did not need them, I also couldn’t live without them :joy:. I came home and made some bacon with kerrygold and a couple eggs in ghee. We shall see how tonight progresses. I did take a digestive enzyme first so I’m hoping that helps! So far I’m 0 for 3 on long fasts and reintroduction. I feel like I did everything right this time too!

(Michael) #176

My two longest fasts are 247 hours and 168 hours or so, so I cannot comment on the extra days you plugged in, but I was curious with this comment. Do you mean stopping diarrhea after eating or…? I can say that I get diarrhea after most fasts that are longer than 72 hours, and I was under the impression that just about everybody does upon re-introducing food. Having said this, you are going WAY slower than I every do. After my 10 day fast, I ate bone broth, waited a few hours, ate a salmon steak, waited a few hours and ate a LARGE meal without discomfort for example. My gut turned it all into liquid for a day or two, but no upset or loss of hunger. Similar to my 7 and 6 and 5 day fasts. Happy to hear the gory details even if others are more…squeamish than I.

(Daisy) #177

Yeah, getting diarrhea after eating. I thought maybe with a slow introduction and digestive enzymes, it could maybe prevent it but definitely not. I got sick to my stomach tonight too. And it’s definitely uncomfortable!

(Judy Thompson) #178

So much going on! And so late here, I won’t be on long. Hubby’s asleep next to me on the couch and it’s nearly 11. He woke up lastnight about 2:30 and didn’t sleep after that. I’m betting he sleeps like a log tonight!
This morning hubby finished building steps on the end of the porch which will open up a big side yard segment with a big old tree in the middle of it. I love the steps - they’re very wide and luxuriant to look at. The porch needs decluttering but don’t’ look at that - the steps are just great!

I steamed some eggs to snack on for the next few days and ate 1 about 10 am. Then at 12:30 the 1:15 student canceled on account of a broken string, so I started lunch then. I took out the flank steaks from the sous vide, which at 2 days were so nice and tender, seared them and for my meal, added a slice of liverwurst, 2 slices of bacon (which I didn’t end up eating) and a slice of sharp white cheddar cheese along with a deviled egg. It took me 2 hours to eat that steak but I put it on the counter and didn’t give up! I have to admit I had help from the puppy and gave her the little bone afterward.

Tonight I used the rest of that bacon/steak grease to fry 3 eggs, which really hit the spot.

@Fangs I agree you better just stay put for awhile, don’t let nature attack you any more for a day or so! Hope kiddo recovers quickly too, as kiddos tend to do.
Mozzarella is one of the dairy products I don’t like the smell of, so I won’t be scrraping pizza tops either - but pepperoni’s still pretty good  I made crack chicken for hubby a couple months ago and the cream cheese and mozzarella smell together just about grossed me out. So if it’s bad for me, good for covid, because it’s ended all that for me! @robintemplin do you still have the post-covid dairy thing? I’m wondering how long that lasts.
@Ketodaisy back in my 20s I did a 3 week distilled water fast. The 2nd week included some grated cabbage to keep things moving I guess - I followed a then-famous fasting doctor’s book, and subsequently fasted 1 day a week for a couple years to keep the weight off (38 lbs). I was vegetarian at the time, and don’t remember any digestive trouble following it… but after all, that was in 1976 so how would I remember? LOL
Good luck. I know your body knows best and will bring you around sooner rather than later.
@Shinita hope you feel better soon! Nothing stops you though does it? An hour walk into town when you’re under the weather! Did you catch what Alvaro had?
@SecondBreakfast Your father in law! Hilarious. And you just ride along with his pronouncement - great story! You’ll be fine. People will help you.

(Robin) #179

All of my post Clovis issues have finally disappeared. I’m back, baby!

#180

Nope, I never get diarrhea, no matter how I eat or fast (I only mean proper food, not overdosing the wrong magnesium pills or maybe maltitol, they almost did the trick and had I consumed more, it probably would have happened truly). My longest fast was about 120 hours and my second longest was way shorter but I had zero problems. But I only had a few bites for my first meal (dried fruits because my body had interesting desires. I still don’t understand it). Then I ate normal. It was in my HCHF times, about 12 years before low-carb so my fasting abilities were much better.
Other things didn’t affect me either. I ate 1 tablespoon salt and another time had 200g fat at once (of course not alone, I am a hedonist and at this point I don’t even know how on Earth I did a fat fast before. though it’s way easier off carnivore, I can just eat chocolate or something I suppose. but I didn’t eat that, I remember that much. I had fat bombs and a fried yolk)… Nothing. I am immune or something.

I fried some pork and made my plan. I definitely can’t afford eating the whole stuff (400g 70/30 pork minus 30g lard), it’s very calorie dense and I want to eat other things too.
I already had some bites at dawn, I woke up after 4 hours, not feeling well and had my non-carni but this time even lower-carb remedy… Napped more and now I am better and have multiple dishes. Sometimes I need to use up certain things and now I had to render some lard… I can’t always just cook 1-2 dishes a day (when I totally have ready to eat leftovers already). But they were simple and will be useful.

The lights were dramatic in the morning… Had to take a shot.

@JJFiddle: I NEED my walks and I wanted to buy carbonated water - and got meat too. I wasn’t so unwell and being inside all the time is the worst when I am sick. No, being in bed in the worst, I never did that unless I was unconscious (once I had some serious sun stroke as a kid, that triggered a 3 day long fast, it was easy as I was unconscious/asleep almost all the time, only woke up to drink water sometimes). As lazy as I am, I need to be up and about, doing things, taking walks…
It was just an hour walk, quite tiny and easy, only was hard on me because it was too hot when my temperature already was a bit high…
Nice stairs, by the way, I so love wood! I have metal stairs next to the terrace but I made wooden covers for it from some garbage wood from the rebuilding of the house. We STILL have so much wood and we try to burn it since a decade (and I made my workout bench and whatnot from it). That’s my limit, making shelves and super simple, very solid bench for chest presses  I made tables and similar things but only added tops and shelves to a stable frame, I couldn’t do that. But I am still better than Alvaro. He isn’t even willing to assemble furniture from parts… He builds computers though.

Another hot month :frowning: And then comes my favorite season with perfect temperature, yay!!!
But we don’t need the AC yet, the nights cool down the house, it’s good.

We should fit into 12*(210+210)KWh a year electricity wise, it’s very easy, the normal one is way lower but we need the whole quota for the lower priced type (it has a time limit but 12.5 hours a day, it’s good) as our warm water and heating and cooling happens with that.
Some people uses WAY more electricity despite not using it for heating.
I was called a liar when I talked about my house can be heated by a hairdryer (it would be very problematic but it’s only about the energy need :D) on a normal winter day but it’s true, insulation is awesome (and it’s not a big house, everything is a heater, every machine and body. the weight of the house is huge, it comes handy)… But now with AC the house need way less energy to stay warm

Gas stations have 20 and 50 liter limits now and it’s for the day for the biggest company that checks it. Hopefully it won’t get worse.

Natural gas is fine for Hungary now, the radio says. There were some fears considering our situations here, Russia being our big gas provider… 85-90% of our needs, Alv says (70% for oil)… And the oil pipes go though war zones in Ukraine, they are Ukraine’s and the oil is Russia’s so the situation is interesting especially that Russia needs to pay to Ukraine for using the pipes but now with the embargo Russia has problems with accessing its money (not like it wouldn’t be somewhat weird otherwise)… If I understood correctly what Alvaro said, I never was interested enough to look these things up.

#181

@Shinita, I see the coughing you mentioned again, are you sick right now? I know you said a few times but I don’t think I caught reading you are sick or something right now?

@Karen18
rattie or spud, rattie or spud? BOTH if desperate HA
many eat ratties but unless faced with pure starvation death I ain’t eating no rattie, he is gonna be low on my meat list to eat :sunny:

@KetoDaisy, sorry your guts went wonky. Those ribs look fantastic.

@JJFiddle, nice wide steps. he did a great job!! Also I see that Texas star on your home, nice place JJ!

Cream cheese and mozz together would put me in hosptial  It would take forever to clear my guts. Soft cheese, I am so done and over them and I ain’t doing it again. Hard cheese…check. Soft cheese…big issues I don’t wanna deal with  I was lucky, thru my shorty Covid I had no food smell/taste issues at all.

-------------still hobbling a bit. had to swim yesterday, just about an hr and I baby’d that knee like crazy so I got thru it ok, but ocean was calling my name. but I rested the knee mostly but still darn ooowwwy this morn. but I have to go to my farmers market later when they open at 9.

other than that I tried long as I could to keep food at the RV…family is wanting to drag me out to seafood restaurant tonight. Get this, scallops wrapped in bacon (4) on the appetizer is $19,99-----you got to be crazy. Ain’t no way! I told family they can order 1 app and split it and I know I ain’t ordering anything that over the top. I ain’t got it in me to part with my money like that. I can make a ton of bacon wrapped scallops for 20 bucks LOL My inner frugal person says these types of prices have got to stop   I will look over menu tight and see what I will get…hopefully they got a lb. of peel/eat shrimp and done. I don’t wanna eat out, ugh. I got nice ribeyes I can fry up but nope, they want out so out we go.

eh, I will get thru it, and my wallet will be lighter by about $150 in the end, oh well, vacay is expensive I guess.

ZC strong guys. Eat well. Eat clean. Eat for your best health.

ohhh, here is my RV kitchen…see my 2 sausage patties I just nuked and am gonna hound down in a sec plus a small bag of chicken defrosting for the dog. Heck I might eat his chicken tho HAHA
