Alarming Weight Gain when ACV was introduced

(Jenn) #1

Hi All,

Started lazy keto back in May 2018 and lost 65 lbs with no IF but going to gym for lifting and cardio 3x a week. I was very please with progress and heading toward my goals.

Then I decided I wanted to try to speed things up a bit so 5 days ago I started IF (only 16:8) and adding 1 tbs ACV to my bone broth I break my fast with. I gained 10lbs in 2 days.

Has anyone else had odd results when adding ACV to your daily intake?

I’ve lost 6 back from the 10 I gained, but grrrr!

Any insight would be helpful

Something else aside from the acv caused that. Two tablespoons cannot equal 10 pounds.

I have had my weight fluctuate by 12 pounds over 36 hours without having changed anything. The flux may not have anything to do with the ACV. Isolating the reason for a flux like that can be hard to pinpoint. I wouldn’t automatically assume it is the ACV. You would have to repeat that several times before I would put any credence in your theory.

Have you tried the same IF without the ACV? Just trying to minimize all the different variables. It’s not the ACV (most likely). Did anything else change? Water, total amount of food, etc…

I do not know the definition of “lazy keto” (which might vary from person to person).

But, if “lazy keto” did not get you fat adapted but instead was taken by the body as calorie restriction, you might lose 65 lbs but be in for a bounce.

In that case, I can see that it is possible that the IF, instead of promoting body fat burning with a fat-adapted metabolism, might have caused a metabolic slowdown (with IF seen by the body as further calorie restriction) and your body is now holding on to everything - thinking it is moving into a new even lower-calorie norm.

Just a theory - but I agree with @Dread1840 - ACV hasn’t moved the needle at all for me and I thought it’s main usage was to help blood glucose numbers (not for any significant effect on weight in a short timeframe).

Do you have histamine intolerance? Look up histamine and water retention. It’s a possibility.

(Jenn) #7

Thank you for the feedback. Clearly it is not a normal occurrence and was just perhaps a combination of factors… I will stop for now and try again in a couple weeks to see.

By lazy keto, I mean, I was not calculating my macros I was just eating low carb and adding fat.

I actually only started adding ACV because I watched a Dr. Berg video explaining how it can help increase fat loss in the tummy area.

Newby here. What’s ACV? and IF?

(The amazing autoimmune 🦄) #9

ACV apple cider vinegar

IF intermittent fasting

Ah Dr Berg that explains everything…

(Jenn) #13

This is interesting… I’ve never heard of histamine intolerance. Could explain the reaction! I’ll look into this.

(Jenn) #14

lol should I stay off the keto channels? I really just search for info anywhere and am grateful I stumbled on this forum.

#15

Was the bone broth new too? Or had you already been having that before introducing the ACV?

(bulkbiker) #16

Dr Berg causes strong reactions …quite a few on both the love and hate sides… personally I don’t like him… There are a few threads about him…

(Carl Keller) #17

“Dr” Berg puts out a lot of great information but some of his advice is way out there.

As for ACV, unless you are trying it to help with bloating or if you are already having successful weight loss with vanilla keto, then I tend to agree with @Screenack

You don’t need to drink it and it brings other factors that merely complicate low-carb diets.

(Jenn) #18

The bone broth wasn’t new. Been having 1-2 cups a day for a few months.

(Jenn) #19

Good to know!!! There is a flood of info out there right now, it’s tough to sift through it all.

My weight loss had kind of stalled so I was just trying something new.

(Jenn) #20

This is an interesting point. Might have just shocked my body is all. The scale is going down again so I’m just going to steer clear of the ACV… no use trying to fix what isn’t broken.
