Air fryers

(Tina) #1

Anyone try using one of those air fryers? Just wondering if they might make frying Keto food like chicken wings and avocado fries easier or if they only good for a low fat approach

Bought a small one from Walmart…$68. Best investment ever. Love it for wings and thighs. Son liked it for fish. Other son loves it for fries and rings. Best homemade wings with simple clean up and no sticking wings missing half the skin like in the oven.

I just got an air fryer a few weeks ago. I love it. It is less messy then a deep fryer…,for me at least. I make chicken wings from frozen to done in 25 minutes. Nice and crispy. Yum
I haven’t tried making anything else in it yet.

I love chicken wings in the oven. I’ll have to try an air fryer!

I got one for annual gift giving period, but traded it in for an Instant Pot type device, which I thought I would get more use out of. Tradeoffs.

I look at them often but think it would just end up being another kitchen gadget that I end up not using… :joy:

Have one in a box since my birthday…wasn’t sure about keto friendly, as the George Foreman gathers dust😂 I suppose I could air fry chicken, and “moderately drizzle” with butter?

George Foreman is about the only thing that gets used sort of regularly. Slow cooker, juicer, spiralizer, waffle maker, mandolin veg slicer, I’ve cream maker, steamer… I could go on. The dehydrator gets used a lot but that’s only because I use it to make my dog his treats :joy:

I had a nice Cuisinart Foreman back when wife and I were first married and I wore that out. Loved that thing.

Can’t see going back, but did enjoy the f out of it.

Hahaaa! I thought I was the only one! Have pondered a dehydrator for jerky, or maybe some pemmican ( I think it’s called). Haven’t really researched whether that would be detrimental to the fat content I so embrace these days…:grinning:

Do they come out with a surface crunch??

I actually use most of those devices.
Though not the bread maker.:stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

I love my air fryer. Line bottom with tin foil. Nice crispy chicken. Whole, legs, wings, breasts, whatever. Use lots of different rubs and oils.

#14

I got one. Made burgers in it last night.

I am wondering if deep frying is only a ‘baddie’ due to the oil used. If we deep fry with tallow or lard or ghee would it still be considered a no-no?..I might put a new post up and see what others think on the subject

#16

Deep frying with healthy fats and oils should be fine. The main attraction to an air fryer is the fact that you don’t have to use any oil (or very little) and that saves a lot of money. If you’re doing a lot of deep frying, you’re going to be spending a lot of money on oil.

I gota an air fryer 5 days ago and have used it the last 2 nights. Done Chicken breast the first night and last night did pork n veggies. Absolutely beautiful. Definitely become the main cooking utensil in our household…

(Catherine ) #18

did you lather the chicken with butter before consuming

(Catherine ) #19

that is a good point and i wouldn’t be deep frying much i don’t think. Cheap if one can get fat from the butcher though (free or very cheap) and render it into tallow (which is what i used yesterday to see what the flavour was like)…it was yummy

forget about the ‘moderately’ lol
