Advice regarding dining out!

#1

Hey everyone!

Ok so I have spent the past couple of days reading all about the KetoDiet and seems to be the one that will work for me!

Ok so I’m starting tommorow but I am slightly concerned as I have 4 meals out over the next couple of weeks but I’m not waiting until after that as I want to start now.

I would like to ask when dining out what are the best options to go for that won’t throw me off track?

Thanks so much

Bunless burger with salad instead of fries is the thing I go for most often. Steak with salad. Really and meat with any non starchy veg. Be careful with sauces / relish as most have unsuitable additives. Really depends what type of place you’ll be eating.

Most “nicer” places have keto options. Grilled chicken breast, steaks, burgers without the bun, fish, bone-in wings. The keto options do also tend to be more expensive. I would advice checking out the menu before you go if you can and know exactly want you want to order to avoid temptation.

What kind of restaurants are you going to? My go to lately has been steak. Most restaurants will have a steak on the menu. I make sure to get mine without any toppings as sometimes those can have hidden sugars in them. If they offer bread and real butter, I will put that butter on my steak. And then I will order a side of vegetables. I used to get salads as well, but all of the dressings are made with canola or soybean oil which is not good for you.

I used to dread eating out, but it’s easy for me now. Even my favorite italian and mexican restaurants have steaks. Also, if they offer fried eggs anywhere on their menu, such as on a burger, you can also ask for a fried egg to go with your steak.

Fatty meats are my go-to when possible.

Steak and eggs = YES!

Steak and veggies are my goto, but I also do ribs with dry rubs, BBQ places are easy, breakfast is easy. You can do salads, I also put some meat on them and be careful with the dressings, stay away from any light dressings. Many people do bunless burgers, I don’t do that in restaurants but in fast food BK and Hardees/Carls Jr will wrap them in lettuce for you.

Thank you so much everyone, that’s really helpful. Every place I’m going definitely does steak so that seems a good and safe option to have with salad or vegetables :grinning:

Thank you x

Lots of GOOD advise here.

I order Cesar’s and steaks, requesting that the kitchen drop the croutons and potato’s. The restaurants are happy to replace the carbs with veggies.

I second everything said here! I also go so far as to request oil & lemon instead of the restaurant’s dressings (I’m sensitive to vinegar). Last meal out they brought olive oil with roasted garlic & chili flakes for bread dipping & when everyone was done with it, I crushed up the garlic & poured the flavored oil on my salad, so good!!

Also I request bacon, cheese, avocado, fried egg on a bunless burger, even if they don’t put it on the menu sometimes they have it so don’t be shy to ask.

Cobb salad is my go-to.

My wife and I were a little worried going out, but we haven’t had any issues substituting any of the sides. Most places, once I order a bun-less burger get what I’m trying to do and offer other substitutions for fries, baked potato or rice. Side salad comes in useful, or most likely an order of steamed veggies.

As far as salad dressing goes, I have taken a liking to olive oil and vinegar (especially red wine vinegar) and a touch of salt and pepper. A lot of places can bring this out for you.
