7g net carbs over HELP

#1

I’m really new to this life style and the sneaky carbs have hit me hard today. Is 7g over enough to knock me out of Ketosis? I’ve not long been in ketosis and it’s definitely been a hard change. Don’t want to ruin all the hard work just for an extra cashew nut

It may or it may not, everyone is different, if you want hot dogs you might want to look for some that are a bit lower in carbs (I can’t remember the company but there’s some really nice gluten free sausages that are only 1g per 100g and pretty tasty) , maybe leave the nuts alone for a while whilst you adapt to the WOE. Are you working on 20g net a day?

I have the gluten free sausages I just forgot to defrost them so I went for a fast alternative which were the hot dogs. I’m not sure if I put the right information in the app as I only had three sausages from a can that has a total weight of 227g so maybe I’m stressing over nothing?
It’s the first time in nearly 4weeks I’ve ever gone over

These are my goals;

I’d say relax, sometimes these things happen, your macros look ok

Just watch the labels on anything processed. There can be a wide discrepancy in ingredients and macro contents.

It’s probably a wise idea to limit even ones that are lower in carbs because they can have high amounts of artificial sweeetners that can still cause some people problems in Keto.

But other than that, it looks like you’re doing pretty well.

Thank you :slightly_smiling_face:
It’s nice I got a response so quickly. I’ll keep away from processed meat from now on

I do have them from time to time. They can be a huge time saver and come in very handy when I have an all day event like my son’s ball tournaments that I need to pack for. So I did t mean to scare you from them altogether. Just be sure to pick the ones lowest carbs and least ingredients. And not eat daily.

Unless you are very sensitive, you shouldn’t have a problem with them occasionally.

I also eat Kirkland Signature brats every so often. They are 2 carbs per link. I mean, what’s summer with a brat on the grill, right?

No stress, you’re doing just fine. You might find some more fat though.

(Allie) #9

Forget it and move on.

#10

Ok lol thank you.

I’m definitely trying to balance out what the best fats are so I can make sure I’m getting more fat than anything else without going over my calories. I’ve had dinner and I still have 20g left with 210 calories to spare

(less is more, more or less) #11

If you really want to be low carb, ditch the “net carbs” and count total carbs. All carbs are sneaky little monsters, especially if you eat a lot of food you haven’t prepared yourself. Total carbs simplifies the hunt. A year into LCHF/Keto, and I remain a total-carber.

Don’t worry about calories. Especially in the adaptation phase. Eat fat to satiety. Once you become fat adapted, you will naturally limit how much you eat because you won’t be hungry as much.

Then you can start the fun stuff… fasting.

(You've tried everything else; why not try bacon?) #13

The point of eating a well-formulated ketogenic diet is to use nutritional ketosis to become fat-adapted. Fat-adaptation takes a number of weeks, and in some people, even months. Since you are so new to keto, it is hardly likely that 7 extra grams of carbohydrate will have hampered your effort to reach that goal. And once you are fat-adapted, 7 extra grams are not going to destroy your fat-adaptation, either.

Another point to consider is that on these forums we set the limit on carbs very low, so as to help even the most insulin-resistant people get into ketosis. A lot of people can become ketotic on a larger amount of carbohydrate; 20 g/day is simply a rate that practically guarantees ketosis for everyone. So there is a chance that even at 27 g you were still under your personal limit, so don’t worry.

If you want to experiment with what your carb tolerance actually is, wait until you are sure you are fat-adapted. In the meantime, keep your carbs as low as possible, because that will help you reach fat-adaptation sooner.

1300 calories sounds kinda low. Hope you’re not starving yourself…

For most of us, 7g of carbs is pretty much a non-issue. But then again, there is a lot of variation among us. Large, small, active, inactive, damaged, relatively healthy… it sorta all adds into the mix.

Oh I already fast
I was doing IF before I started Keto. I fast 16hrs because I’m never really hungry and it really helps with the medication I’m on. I’ve fasted for 3days already and I always fast for 24hrs every Sunday. It’s just keto I’m trying to get my head around xx

I never go over 20g of net carbs except today. I always try and stay below 10-15g tbh because I’m scared that it’ll cause a lot of issues and I don’t want to gain weight because I’m doing it wrong. Most my carbs are from my veg.

I’ve gotten past the old Keto Flu and I’ve got all the symptoms of Ketosis but it’s only been this week and half where I haven’t replied on a tailored diet plan someone did for me to reach Ketosis. It made me miserable and I hated the meals. So I’m enjoying looking at keto recipes but obviously I’m scared I’m ruining my hard work even when I’m not going mad. Feel like I’m in the deep end and I want to make sure I’m doing the right thing so I’ll be losing weight and edging towards becoming FA.

#17

I stay far away from ready meals and meals out tbh I’m too scared I’ll mess up and have to start again. It’s only been these past few days I’ve started looking at net carbs. I was looking at total carbs, freaking out if they were higher than 5g and not buying the ingredient lol

#18

I’m 5’3” and 140lbs. I’m not very active as I work from home as a designer but I do quite a bit of walking and soon I’ll have a cross trainer. Obviously I need to be very careful with excersise as cortisol effects keto. But don’t worry I’m not starving myself  I always feel full
Appreciate the concern though. Xx

Just a suggestion but cashew nuts are one of the highest carb nuts. Macadamia or pecan are much higher in fat and lower in carb. Have you seen the food lists on diet doctor? It orders different food groups from low carb to high carb and is really useful to help you plan.

Oh gosh really? I love cashews.
I have hazel nuts, macadamia nuts and almonds to snack on but I always levitate to cashews.
Is diet doctor a website or app? Thank you for the suggestion, I haven’t heard of it at all. Xx
