Insulin test isn’t typically routine. I had to beg my doctor to take it. “Just this once,” is what she told me. Sigh…gotta love the medical industry. They ignore and completely discount the very thing that is the root cause of much of the diseases Western countries face. You could also look into having your cortisol levels checked. I’m not as familiar with the science behind the chemistry of cortisol and it’s impacts on our health and weight as I am with insulin, but I’m sure Dr. Google could help you out. Those would be my suggestions: Beg…er ask…your doc for a fasting Insulin (looking for under 10, depending on who you ask, it’s 8 according to others, and 3 for some) and check your cortisol. Hope this helps!
7+ weeks and im not making progress
I read every new post every day and by the time the comments start getting lengthy sometimes I get a little lost
Whaaaa?! Ya’ll are great. I lean on you guys soo much. People in my circle would scoff at me and my eating, so I appreciate you guys
That sounds pricey. I only get 300 in lab per year on my insurance and that goes quick with mammogram and the hormone testing. Honestly, I feel really good, besides the occasional heart flutters when I first started keto. Like I said earlier, I feel like a huge jerk for not being more humble… No doubt my ego has a part to play. Dumb
I don’t think insulin is a pricey test (don’t quote me). Wouldn’t hurt to ask. Worst is you don’t have it done. Best case scenario, you get a peek at your body’s chemistry and metabolism. I’m glad you feel so well regardless. I’ve felt like a million bucks on keto but not anymore. I need this data to drive my nutritional decisions. I’m going carnivore to see how I respond.
ya, not happening. I’m not worried the least bit about my insulin tbh. I may save up to test cortisol level, we’ll see
This whole ketogenic diet is about manipulating insulin. It’s the only thing to worry about frankly…
Like I said earlier, l will give it twelve weeks, who knows… I could weigh on the 18th and have lost 5 pounds… it could happen!
The only thing I haven’t tried yet is extended fasting… I’ll have a three day weekend so I’m going to start after my Friday meal and see how I feel Monday evening. If I feel good I’ll continue if not I’ll break the fast Tuesday. I really want to try because I’ve read that sometimes that’s the way to go… thoughts?
Good plan to try. Just remember that somewhere in there your digestive tract will completely empty your system of “everything” so it can virtually shut down, so be prepared. It usually happens for me around the 40hr mark but everyone is different. Take your electrolytes. Hopes for success!
I’ve been keto since February and have lost about 45lbs (bit vague because I was scared to weigh in beginning!) I feel great and my joint pain has disappeared. I usually fast 2/3/4 days every week and see steady weight loss. The last month I haven’t been able to fast because my work pattern has changed. My weight has fluctuated but no net loss. I realise now that I am not able to lose without EF every week. Hopefully EF will be the answer to your problems. Good luck and keep us posted.
I have been dabbling in carnivore which means, I do it well some significant days in a row and then I will have some pili nuts or macadamias (keto), etc. The scale hasn’t really budged for me, however, not too long ago, a couple of coworkers whom I do not see every day, both told me that I am looking good and like I have lost weight! What I think is happening is that my body is recomposing so that I am building muscle and losing fat hence the same scale weight. KCCO (Keep Calm Carnivore On)!
Have you taken measurements from many different areas of your body?
thats awesome! Nah, I didnt take measurements, I didnt want to be disappointed. I have an insurmountable level of stress that I feel is causing the issue. Unfortunately, there is no way to rid myself of the issue for another couple years. exercise and meditation help, and this forum, everyone has been great. I dont have much family so you guys are like super to me, thank you for that
Just ordered glucose test strips for my keto mojo, maybe this will give me some insight… heres hoping
I think fasting does more harm than good, and can cause gallbladder problems and having zero energy while fasting, I will never fast, I will stick to 3 meals per day, and I agree with him about keto diet being too complicated and confusing I’m 7 weeks of keto too, and wonder if I will ever become fat adapted
8 weeks today. Been strictly butter and red meat. 1 more week until my monthly weigh in… feeling ambivalent but not throwing in the towel
I’m at the end of my seventh week and I only dropped 7 lbs.Im getting discouraged but I did stop taking my diabetes medicine because my blood sugar is very good.
Why would that discourage you? One pound a week is 52 lbs a year, that seems like fabulous success to me.
not that it’s a competition, but you lost double what I have already. I’d be thrilled if those were my numbers. That’s great about the meds too!
