4 weeks and first keto flu

Hi. I just joined this the forum and am new here. I started Keto the beginning of January and have been strict keto (less than 20carbs a day). I just starting experiencing keto flu 2 days ago. I’m so weak with a headache. I made the Ketoaid yesterday and have drank 2 bottles yesterday and 2 today but still feel rough.

I have a feeling what happened was Monday and Tuesday I took a keto pill because we were having a soup luncheon. :slightly_frowning_face: I think that day I had 27 carbs that day. My guess is this put me in the keto flu? Did I knock myself out of ketosis and then went back into it?

I feel like the Ketoaid is not working. How many should I drink in a day? Thank you!

What is this???

I think everyone has their own timeline for when they may experience the “keto flu” or carb withdrawal. I don’t think I experienced it that harshly, due to the fact that I was eating a lot of spinach, salty pecans and mushrooms during my transition and that helped balance the change in electrolytes. Just my guess. There are many that are more knowledgeable than me about this.

Welcome

“Keto flu” / carb withdrawal, you should be past that now.

You could just be plain ol’ dehydrated. That’s pretty easy to do. And of course sodium, we need to keep salt up all the time.

But “soup day” … well it depends on exactly that they put into those soups. You may have been knocked out of keto, it’s a bit of a bummer, but not the end of the world.

I got knocked out by yogurt. I was fine with brand A, not sure how they made brand B but it knocked me out. Took 5 days to get back into keto. I’m using a blood analyser that’s how I know otherwise I had no symptoms whatsoever.

Don’t worry. Learn from this and move forward. Adding (and then subtracting) various foods is part of the process.

I don’t have it with me. It’s at my work. I got suckered into a scam on the internet with it. But I believe it is a pill that says it will help keep you in ketosis. It was a scam but I have it now. I don’t think I’ll take it again.

The only thing I ate at soup day was a low carb pizza soup I made and a low carb broccoli salad. Small portions.

Tammy,
Chill out. Keep calm and keto on.

The keto “flu” is a symptom of not getting enough sodium. Ignore the government recommendations; they range from not enough to woefully inadequate, depending on the country. Several recent studies have shown that we need 4-6 grams of sodium a day, which translates to 10-15 grams of table salt (NaCl). When eating keto, we don’t retain sodium the way we did as sugar-burners, so we have to work a bit to keep sodium intake up. Be sure to drink to thirst, as well.

Thank you!

Yes, I had awful flu like symptoms, a cup of bullion, extra salt, magnesium, eating good food and it only lasted a day. I felt so miserable I could have thrown up, headaches … Thankfully only experienced it once.
