2nd 60 hr fast

I did my 1st 60hr fast last fri/sat (3 nights, 2 days). It was really Much easier than expected. It was likely harder on family than me. They just think it’s weird and possibly unhealthy. I have a son at almost 18 years old and another at 16.5 yrs old. Now that school is out I’ll just direct them to dig up research and prove me wrong. :grinning:

Anyhow, after my first fast I regained almost all the fasting weight loss back which surprised me. However, a curious thing happened. I desired post dinner snacks (Keto friendly macadamia nuts and cheese or pork rinds). That was “new”. I ate Keto friendly but was a hair more hungry. It was kind of my first time “feasting”. I had a couple of stressors last week but nothing unusual. I fasted yesterday and will continue through today. I will likely break tomorrow morning. I’m expecting to hold onto some of the weight loss. Has anyone else had this experience?

I have lost significant weight the previous 3 months where I never “shook things up much” and wonder if maybe my metabolism took a hit. Hopefully I’ll gather more data this week after I break fast. My target is to crank down insulin level (not measured though). If all continues well I may extend duration again by another 24hrs after another fast or two.

Definitely do some feasting before and after the fasting periods. A metabolic slowdown can be accompanied by brain fog, lethargy and cold hands and feet. Then it’s time to end the fast or supplement the fast with some fat. That generally happens if you don’t have enough body fat to supply all your energy demands during the fast.

The first couple of days there will be some loss from water weight and digested food leaving the body. You’ll get some autophagy, breakdown of old tissues, and that will be replaced with shiney new tissue during the post-fast feasting. There will also be fat loss, and that will be what is lasting weight loss after the bounce back.

If you crave specific foods after the fast, now is the time to indulge.

Thanks so much for feedback. After induction and PISS I tended to get cold hands/feet in the evening while my weight was coming off at a pretty good rate. I was also exercising with 30-40 min. threshold cardio 4-5 times per week. I suspect my metabolism was slowing if cold hands/feet are a marker for slowed metabolism. I was afraid I was at the beginning of a plateau so I started incorporating fasting to my woe. So maybe the first fast/feast was doing two things , lowering insulin and maintaining/increasing metabolism…???

The fast wasn’t as hard this time except family gave me grief about not eating. My wife is a very intelligent, educated ICU nurse. However, she has not taken the time to look at the science behind this woe and thus spews the standard medical advice w/o critically looking at it and comparing it to Keto supporting science. Frustrating at times…

I may look for longer next time…

Had avocado for beginning refeed and two hours later:

Yummmmm… Feeling a little stuffed now…

Oh, my scale netted 6.1lbs in the two days so there should be some on going weight loss even after refeed.

EDIT:
I spun at ~36hrs. It was tough. My power/effort was about 10% lower for an equivalent perceived effort. Typical is ~350cal for 35 min. This was 350cal for 38 or so min. The idea of a several hour fasted ride is not on the near horizon clearly.
