28 Day Extended Fast Starting June 2nd

(Elis Diaz) #1

I decided to start a month-long fast tomorrow. I’ve completed 4 and 5 day fasts, and a slew of 24 to 48 hours. I was going to go for 14 days first, but I decided I am more likely to finish 14 days if I’m going for 28. I will see how I feel on the 14th day and just power through. I am waiting to hear from my doctor tomorrow if the fast will interfere with some meds I take which needs food, he said it was fine for my shorter ones, so let’s see what he thinks of this one.

I’ve lost 50 pounds in a year (260 to 210, 5’10") and hit a plateau since March. I’m hoping this will kick start the weight loss again and then I can go into a clean Keto diet again. I was knocked off my game when I was sent to Detroit for a month and stayed at a hotel for that entire time. You can imagine the difficulty of eating well without a kitchen.

It actually scares me to think of going this long, I can stop anytime, but it’s still makes me nervous.

Wish me luck!

Have you hit a wall after 5 days in your previous fasts?
Because that was always what happenend to me.
I am also attempting a extended fast starting today.
Good luck to both of us!

Nope, just since my extended trip. Good luck on your journey!

The following was my doctor’s response about my meds “Just have a little something like a cracker When you take it so it gets absorbed”.

Hmm… this will defeat the purpose of my fast, and put me in a low caloric diet that will do damage to my metabolism.

(What The Fast?!) #5

Coffee with heavy cream. It’s not enough calories to mess with your fast, but it should be enough to deal with the meds.

(Elis Diaz) #6

Thank you, I am going to give that a shot. I’ll send an email to my doctor what I am doing.

My b/f takes Adderal and he gets nauseous without food. He’s been having coffee with cream and he’s all good.

My doctor responded, he said the heavy cream should help minimize the acidity, which can prevent proper absorption. In my case it isn’t nausea, it’s making sure the meds get absorbed properly or else they don’t work as well. Thanks for the advice, I think this will work out well. I wonder if coconut oil will work just as well, I don’t know if I will have an inflammatory response to the dairy. I know cheese gave me an issue when I first started a ketogenic meal plan. But like many others I went a little overboard with the cheese.

I really don’t think it will hurt your fast, and definitely will NOT equate to a calorie restricted diet.
We’re talking about a few calories. These will be burned through in minutes.
Your body will not / cannot interpret that as his new “calorie budget” and try to adapt to that.

Besides, I don’t think you would use a ‘cracker’, but rather something like ¼ cup of fresh spinach or something.
But even if it were to be real ‘carby cracker’ … it’s a cracker.
People fat fast with BP coffees (which are 100s of calories) or regular Bone Broth (which have some proteins) and still get great results without hurting their metabolism.

I’ve already had a coffee this morning (w/ heavy cream … not BP), but I’ve decided to join you in this attempt at a longer fast.
So I am now 18 hours in.
My longest so far being 5 days … so I might be over-ambitious, but we’ll see

Whatever you decide, your post motivated me, thanks

Thanks for the response, I really appreciate it. I’m going to try the quarter cup of spinach, and heavy cream with my coffee and see how that goes. At least it will give me peace of mind that my meds are going to be okay.

5 days was my longest too, I actually stopped not because I was uncomfortable, I was taken aback at how fine I felt. I didn’t feel an ounce of hunger, not a single pang on my fifth day. I did in the first couple days. But I guess the ease of It kind of freaked me out for some reason. At least now I know what to expect.

Here is my first weigh in and measurement.

Day 1
Weight: 208.4
Waist: 41"

(Dany Bolduc) #12

Same here, I was feeling awesome and not hungry… but I was throwing together a dinner reception for some friends at home.
Would have been awkward to prepare this big dinner and not eat a bite of it…. They might have suspected foul play

(Elis Diaz) #13

I feel fine this morning, going to have my coffee with heavy cream for my meds.

Day 2
Weight: 207

I will measure waist once a week.

Day 3
Weight: 204

I went on a 40-mile bike ride yesterday with a friend spontaneously. Halfway through I felt nauseous, but felt fine after resting a bit and tons of water. So I think this new drop of weight was just water weight definitely. So I don’t make this into a spam thread, I think I will just post every few days.

I’m doing a 5 day and i’m 65hrs in.
Everything is good and just haveing some coffee and HWC I haven’t put coconut oil in until today.
I wanted to do it so 3 days in I can step it up.
Weight is down 2.2kg just on 5lbs in 3 days.
Hopefully I can do a 7day.
I ride to and from work 16km a day and have done a 7km run once this week.
I feel great energy is fine.
