20 Day Water Fast! (Who's With Me?!)

(Savannah Alday) #1

Hi everyone!

I’m new, here, and joined for some support and encouragement in these forums as I embark on my 20 day water fast journey. The longest water fasting I have ever done is three days. lol. So this should be interesting.
I’ve done IF sporadically over the years, so I’m hoping that experience will help at least in the tiniest bit!

My Terms & Conditions:
-I’m allowing myself one cup of black coffee in the morning (I usually already drink it black, so that’s not an issue. And I am not going to deal with caffeine withdrawals on top of everything else that this fast is going to plague me with)

-2 La Croix a day (spread out. Just to give me something to look forward to, I guess.)

-Hot Tea with no sweetener (If the cravings are persistent)

-The goal is to drink (At least) ONE GALLON of water each day.

Why I’m doing this:

-To detox my poor chemically unbalanced suffering body.

-To reset my diet (hoping to go paleo after this)

-To clear my skin (I need to know if it is diet related or just hormonal)

-To lose some fast weight (I procrastinated on dieting and exercising and I’m a bridesmaid in my best friend’s wedding on April 28th! The dress will look terrible if I don’t drop some pounds!)

-To challenge myself and to hold bragging rights (lol)

Anyone else want to join me or encourage me/give me tips???

I start, tomorrow!!! Yikes. :flushed::sweat::nauseated_face:

Yes! I will fast with you-but then I will break on saturday as we have dinner plans, it would like to fast again after that! I have not done extended as well. I do not care for LeCruix…but perhaps after fasting that long I will acquire the taste!!!Good luck! Let’s do this!!!

@Ketomomof6 yay for fellow extended fasting newbies! Haha.
Thanks for the support!
My idea was to update my progress and how I’m feeling and such every day on here. Maybe a few times a day depending on how bad it is :confounded::woman_facepalming:
That is absolutely fine about Saturday! As long as you feel you have the self control to get back on once you’re off!
I have plans on Friday night. I’m kind of worried because it will involve a movie and snacks and dinner with friends. Of course it falls on the third day, which I’ve heard is the worst one and is always the one I ended up quitting on during my previous fasts. Ugh.

Afternoon Update:

-Had a cup of black coffee, as per usual, after waking up.
-Drank about 7 cups of water so far and had 1 La Croix for ‘lunch’.
-Peeing like crazy, obviously.
-Hunger pangs have been on and off since around noon.
-Went on a 20 minute bike ride at around 11.
-I’m beginning to notice how much I ate just because I was bored.

@Ketomomof6 @Savvy0712 I’m going to break my fast Saturday for a day as well. The dudes are having a miniketofest meetup in New London, CT. So I’m not going to stay fasted for that extravaganza. I plan to resume after that meetup. :+1::+1: Will feast that day :+1::+1:
So a 6 day going into that, and a 13 day on the other end which i will break for a family event.
After that it will be feast fast cycling 3 fasted 4 feasting. Fits my work/travel schedule!

Great job. I skipped my morning crossfit since my daughter was home sick, but lifted some weights here at home. I made lunch for oldest daughter and hubby followed by preparing dinner…smelled so good! Had to go to a meeting, and chewed some gum-is that ok?! Need to drink more water only have had 24oz. Playing tennis at 6, so will get more water then. Keep up the great work!

(Beth Utz) #7

Well we can finish our fasting after our events on Saturday!! Keep up he good work!

(Raj Seth) #8

That’s the plan. I was gonna remain fasted but with the dudes preparing a veritable feast… Faaaaat was calling to me

I’m no expert and pardon me for chiming in, but the 1 gallon of water a day would be Ok for a short term fast.

But when you get over a week it seems like you’ll be flushing out too many electrolytes and minerals such as Salt and Potassium.

Good Luck with the Fast.

(Savannah Alday) #10

Thanks for the info! I honestly had no idea how much to drink.

I’m prone to breakouts too - I got my hair and my skin from my Mom’s side - so I’ll be prone for life.

The single biggest culprit seems to be dairy. If you can minimize your dairy intake, it should make a massive difference.

Just doing a short 40hr+ water EF, so I’ll pass for now on joining. Need to work up to such a big number!!!

Good luck!!

You should drink when you feel thirsty. Judging by the picture though, you look pretty tiny. Me, I’m drinking about 6 litres a day (that’a a gallon and a half) - but I’m also 281lbs (to give you an idea of the scale/ratio).

As long as you’re getting enough Sodium, then you should maintain your Potassium and other micro-nutrients.

My longest EF was 14 days last November. It was a water only fast. But I did put pink salt in each quart of water. I was closely following Dr Fung’s fasting book, so the high quality salt is most likely his recommendation. I felt no fatigue or weakness, even though I did aerobics exercise daily. I would recommend this salt for your fast. Also the amount does seem much more than I drank. I had no more than two glasses per hour. The daily total was probably about two quarts.

You might benefit by picking up a copy of Dr Fung’s book The Complete Book of Fasting. It helped to make my fast effortless.

One hint: if you are fat adapted, an EF gets easier AFTER day three.

Yes! Looking forward to day 4! :joy::joy::joy::pray:

(Savannah Alday) #16

Good job! You are staying a lot more active then I am! Haha!

(Savannah Alday) #17

Totally fine! You do you! Just update us on your journey so we can all sympathize and complain together!!! :joy::ok_hand:
And enjoy that “feast”!

(Savannah Alday) #18

Dairy does seem to be the problem with most skin issues! I’m excited to see how this fast will help my skin! Fingers crossed! I’m sick of bad skin. Lol.

(Sarah ) #19

gosh darn… I am on day 18 of my 20 day water fast… maybe in the future I would join you… getting ready for meal in a few days…can’t wait. Fasting is a mental journey as well as physical… I learned so much about myself.

(Sarah ) #20

I also have many tips, in case anyone would like some insight. This was my 3rd extended fast.

(Beth Utz) #21

Yes! Enlighten us please!
