Hello, I have just started keto 2 days ago. I never had problem with weight and i always ate anytging i wanted, but then 3 years ago i went through an early menopause and everything changed, my weight, my body shape etc…So for the past three years I have tried everything to lose my weight except giving up carbs and sweets. I thought that exercising and not eating big meals i dont have to. Then I read about The Keto diet and doing further research I decided to give it go. So this my 3d day. Not having pasta, bread and munching on sweets is challenging and only afer 2 days my body fels less bloated but my head feels really heave and tired ans all think of is bread and chocolate. Is that normal?
2 days
Welcome. Yes it’s normal. You’ll feel better if you’re getting plenty of salt and staying hydrated. You may want to consider a magnesium supplement as well. It may take up to a week for you to get all of your energy back (or longer if you’re lacking electrolytes) but it surely does lift! It can take weeks to become fully fat adapted (where your body uses ketones/fat as fuel) and until you’re there you might have a few bad days or intense cravings for carbs. Stay on track and they will pass. You can try chicken broth, search for ketoaid on the site for an electrolyte recipe or for me, I had a hot tea with cream which helped with the cravings in the beginning.
Lots of folks want to jump right in to exercise but it’s ok to rest for a bit while you make the switch, especially that first week. Soon enough you’ll look back (feeling better than ever) and be thankful you rode it out.
What are you eating?
Welcome. I’m a newbie myself, I’d recommend doing a lot of reading here, there’s a lot of good information. Yes, it’s normal to feel tired and foggy, your body is going through withdrawals from it’s favorite fuel, carbohydrate. What helped me my first week was making sure to have lots of fat and protein snacks available. Before you know it, your appetite will stabilize along with your blood sugar and you’ll get on top of the cravings.
Welcome! I found the first week was the hardest, and the first three days of that first week were the hardest of all. Stick with it, it’s worth it!!
Sweet pickles are made with sugar or sweeteners. To stay keto, in theory you could have the ones made with sweetener but there’s lots of info on how they affect everyone differently. I chose to have a few around the holidays but mostly have dill throughout the year.
Welcome One123.
Sadly those are the main things that discombobulate our hormones. They cause insulin resistance, cravings and relentless hunger. All of that leads to weight gain if we can’t metabolize them as fast as we eat them. This is why we can’t outrun a bad diet… it always catches up to us sooner or later.
In your first week or two, the cravings are probably the hardest thing to get over but eventually, if you do keto right, keto will do you right and you won’t miss them at all. I used to love so many things that were bad for me but now I know it wasn’t really love… it was addiction.
