Glucose ketone index. Dr Seyfried uses it in his cancer patient research.
If you take blood glucose (in mmol) and divide by blood ketones, that’s your GKI
If your blood meter is mg/dL, divide that number by 18 first to get your mmol number.

Day 4 of 14
Tested blood last night after a full 3 day mark
BG: 93 (lowest I’ve ever seen, but previous were AM readings)
Ketones: 2.2
Weight Loss: 9 lbs
Hunger: non existent, but I mentally miss eating
This wasn’t my goal, but this fast might get me under the 300 number which would be happy dance time.
Not sure what this makes my GKI? or what that number means.
Day 19…feel pretty good. The abcess is nearly gone. It’s a really tough mental battle at this point. I REALLY wanna eat!
My plan is to go another week after the abcess disappears just to be certain the underlying infection is gone. That will take me somewhere in the vicinity of Feb. 1st if things keep progressing at this rate. We shall see.
Wow @Scatter!
I’m on day 11. Fairly smooth sailing. I went on a business trip and was worried it would be wreck me.
No such problem! Being at home offers much more temptation as I’m constantly walking through my kitchen.
Oh man Jeff… The temptations on a business trip are pretty stiff too. Good for you buddy!
Sweet, buddy! I’m curious what kind of weight rebound we will have after coming off. I’m figuring a good 7-10 pounds, especially considering all the water weight required in refilling our glycogen stores. Not worried too much about fat rebound at all. Im going to be a real Carb Nazi to prevent that.
Yeah, I was thinking 5 to 10. How quickly do you suspect the rebound will appear?
Also, I’m about 3.5 inches off the fattest part of my belly.
How much have you lost?
Day 12 and things are moderately tougher. Getting deeper hunger pangs in higher frequency.
I usually drink pickle juice or KetoAide to see if it helps. If it doesn’t, try a teaspoon of butter or coconut oil.
I’m down 28 pounds. Which would be even better had I not put on about 15 over the Holidays like an ass! Ah well. Onward we go.
Almost to day 21, and experiencing the same intense waves of hunger. I am not at my goal yet as far as the infection, and I will NOT be ready to do this again any time soon, so I refuse to give in.
I am wondering what this nebulous thing called “Real Hunger” is?
I’m not sure I know what real hunger is either. I wonder if I’ve damaged something that signals that or if some of us don’t really have a signal or maybe it comes back. I’m not sure.
From what I’ve read, it can take a very long time for “real hunger” to kick in. Depending mostly on how much body fat is available for fuel. I have never experienced it. And I’m not actually overweight.
TMI alert!
I had my first BM here on day 12 since day 2.
It was liquid, thick, and black as night.
