Introduction: Hi all, 5 weeks in… love the new me… still riding a roller coaster getting used to supplements electrolytes and natural food but improvements are consistently noted. I had very bad leg cramping on waking this morning bc I think I did not eat as much or more importantly take my supplements and drink enough water all day. Won’t happen again. Love this WOE. My blood sugar is so stable it’s boring !!! My heart rate on the other hand is not… bc I’m not numbing myself and my feelings to death with sugar heroin all day. I’ve never felt better …

I do have one question… I notice an old thumb wrist injury has become painful and swollen. Looks like even a bone spur? Calcium deposit? I’m old man 58 and worse female so it maybe that. Gonna keep a close eye on the fluid electrolyte mineral vitamin intake …

Of course my ldl cholesterol went up but my doc is educated and agreed to take another blood panel in three months to include stress hormone levels. thanks and I love that you’re all here to support me. Maureen

Good job Maureen on your first month.

I’m not a doctor or expert but it sounds like it could be due to increased levels of uric acid causing crystals to be deposited in your joint thumb. It’s true that uric acid levels rise when we start keto but Ted Naiman says this will begin to reverse and that should eventually improve your symptoms.

Short term studies show a temporary rise in uric acid during the first few weeks when starting a strict (i.e. keto) low-carb diet. This effect seems to disappear after about six weeks, with uric acid returning to baseline or even lower.

Almost all of my patients who are successful on low-carb diets eventually become gout-free and have low uric acid levels…

Make sure your water and sodium intake are on point.

One common cause is dehydration and a lack of salt. A reduction in the amount of circulating fluid in the blood stream means that the heart will have to pump blood slightly harder or faster to maintain blood pressure.

It’s often recommended to drink up to 2 liters per day of water. Some say drink to thirst but if you are like, I have to remind myself that I thirsty and I keep a glass of water close by at all times. And up to 2 teaspoons of salt per day. In the absence of a high carb diet, sodium is being constantly flushed from our body and can cause imbalances.

Carl thank you so much for your reply… I will be patient first in my body’s healing itself right ? But I know I haven’t been getting enough salt. And as I sit here I’ve decided to put small amounts of pink Himalayan salt in my morning coffee and in my herbal teas and my water during the day. Yesterday it was a lot worse and I only increased my fluid intake. But I’m sure the salt and K (more avocado :avocado: yay!!) will be added.

I’m sooohappyifound something to heal me. I’ve been ill physically hormonally and emotionally for a long time. Be patient.
