Hi Chris
When I was lost Hershey. I took a week off work! And took me over a year to be able to deal with it. I would pray every night to help me get thru it. I still miss her terribly. And wear a heart with wings and a paw. That is an urn. I couldn’t bear to open her box. So I took one of her baby teeth and ground it up. And put it in the urn, I wear it EVERYDAY! And it’s been 8 years! So honor her with your tears and memories. Her life was part of yours and can never be forgotten. But Cherished!

Thank you Wendy. I’m so sorry for your loss too.

My oldest dog yet was around 13 yrs when we lost her, she was a beautiful collie spaniel cross and a rescue. Our pets are part of the family and are cherished as such…only have one left now, a white golden retriever ( who doesn’t understand the retriever part :joy:) having lost Stanley, the chocolate lab my picture. He was the kindest, soppiest dog I have ever known who would always know if you were feeling blue and would come in for a snuggle…since his idea of that was to basically clamber up and lie over as much of you as he could it always made you smile. We miss him so much.
Just and idea… we found a lovely lady who painted a watercolour of Jenny, the collie cross from a photo for us. It hang in the kitchen and so not a day goes by without remembering her fondly.

Thank you Eric. I’ll get through this, but geez I sure loved that dog ! :frowning:

To the contrary, you’re not being a baby. You are grieving and your heart hurts. Unfortunately, the only way out is through.

(Marianne) #672

Wow; that is the best dog portrait I have seen. Gorgeous. Could you share her information, or PM me?

(Liz) #673

Hi Marianne, the lady is Virginia Gilmore. (Southern England)She was amazing, came to meet Jenny and feel her fur and then took away the photo and produced this fab painting. That’s the good news…I have tried to locate her since but this was about 22 years ago now and haven’t been able to trace her. She specialised in animal portraits and really caught Jenny as an older lady…even down to noting some of the arthritis in her joints.
There hopefully are other artists who do similar, I hope you find one to do your dog or pet justice. :+1::handshake:

Here in Salt Lake City, my niece has a coworker who has done paintings from photographs that are beautiful. My niece has commissioned 3 or 4 that I know of for friends and relatives who have lost their pets.

Thanks, Liz. I’m glad that you were able to get your Jenny’s portrait done. It is just a beautiful piece of art suitable for any home, not just a specific “pet portrait.” She did such an incredible job. I think beautiful art is really evidence of the Divine.

(Liz) #676

I am not particularly religious/spiritual but I do believe that some people’s talent is truly a gift. We were so pleased to have had the picture done and hope that it will pass down the family…although we have written Jenny’s history on the back if it ever ends up elsewhere!
Thanks for your lovely comments

My sister and I went to the Norman Rockwell (Am. illustrator) museum where they had scores of his original paintings. Not particularly a fan as classical “art,” but certainly all are amazing and very charming. There was one room that had his originals of “The Four Freedoms.” They were so incredible that I seriously ugly cried. Great art can be like that.

This is my cocker spaniel poodle mix pup. His name is Oen (pronounced like Owen.)

He’s 8 years old and is my baby now that I am an empty nester, after my son chose to attend school 1,400 miles away.

He only barks in his sleep. He’s had two surgeries on his back left leg and recently was given permission to run again. He follows a time-restricted feeding WOE. He loves the sun even though his fully black coat gets very hot in our 100 degree heat.

I have another good one of Bella. She’s pouting because it was 6am and I told her it was too early to play.
