WTF? Is this for real?

Just got on the scale, which three days ago told me I weighed 226.4 lbs. (103 kg). Now it’s telling me my weight is 208.0 (94.5 kg). Sixteen pounds / seven kilos in three days, are you f***ing kidding me? It took over two months to lose the first 20 / 10.

Does this sound reasonable, or do I need a new scale?

The “whoosh” is a real thing, but I’ve not yet found a real explanation other than a few theories.

Failing that, check your scale’s batteries (if it uses them) as my digital scales start to read higher a few weeks before the BATT reminder starts flashing. I also have some digital food scales that do the opposite and read much lower before the batt reminder kicks in…

wow, 16 lbs in 3 days is a lot… are you feeling it in your clothes?

Your body was probably holding onto a lot of water. So when you cut the carbs your body releases water that is binded by the glycogen.

That’s only 2 gallons of water. That’s happened to me before. One a 5 day water fast last month I had almost the exact same swing (225 to 208lbs). My advice is to stop using a scale at all. If you must weigh yourself do it once a year. It’ll discourage and confuse you far more than it will encourage or inspire you. Of the many processes your body monitors closely, your day to day total body weight is not one of them.

I think you’re right. That scale is trying to mess with my head. I’m actually more dismayed by this sudden, apparently random jump than I would have been if the scale had only registered a very small loss, or even an increase. Besides, even though I did move a belt notch tighter the day before yesterday, my clothes certainly don’t feel 20 pounds looser.

Well, I started out telling myself that the point was to reap the metabolic benefits of a keto way of life, not to lose weight. I will be grateful to weight less—I’m already grateful, in fact, but staving off diabetes is far more important. And for that, I don’t need no filthy, stinking scale!
