Wrapping up week 2 looking for buddies

(Sharon Sammons) #1

Looking for others that want to connect for support. Just finishing my second week. I have a few questions. Like is any kind of alcohol exceptable for special occations

(TT) #2

About 2.5, 3 weeks in myself as well!! :sunglasses:

I’m about a week and a half in myself and dealing with the ups and downs of water weight. Thought I was 10 lbs down then weighed myself the next day and was back up 5 lbs.

One thing I can say is that my numbers (T2D and HBP) are both down. I was taking 20 units of insulin and a glyburide pill and I haven’t taken either the last couple days based on my meter. This after being told by my PCP a couple weeks ago that my pancreas would never make insulin again. Keto works!

Oh and I’m not drinking alcohol for other reasons but there are low carb options like the harder liquors. So I would say yes its ok for special occasions.

Tomorrow will be day one of week 3. I don’t weigh. Afraid of the scale. So I will have to believe it is working . Congrats Mike and both your great loss and getting your numbers under control. How are you doing Sylvester ? One question that I have - Is alcohol of any kind ever allowed ?

(Mike L) #6

Yeah as far as the scale is concerned, I was feeling a little lost last week and decided to weigh myself two days in a row. I won’t be doing that again because like I said before the results were so discouraging. I do want to see some quantifiable results though so I wii be weighing myself once a week.

I am with you, my number on the scale wasn’t changed too much, but I believe I lost some inches off my waist. Others on the forum have recommended getting a body tape measure instead of scale to track improvements!

little over 2 weeks. focusing this week on keeping stress levels very low and eating fat to satiety. couldn’t get to sleep until 4:30amlast night i think due to overeating.

Hi there ! I drank vodka with soda water and a lime/lemon and it didn’t any impact on my ketosis at all (i have a blood meter) . I have heard not to drink at all for the first month…but it was my birthday  . I will say that It did hit me a bit harder than usual and I was a bit hungover the next after only 2 drinks heavily watered down with soda water. I drank some bone broth with ACV, salt, cayenne pepper. MACA powder and lemon and my hangover subsided:-).
I am always looking for a buddy as well!! This all so new and strange… Good luck!

Nathan I had a hard time with sleep too But that has seems to have resolved now. Happy Birthday Ruthann. We are buying a house the day it closed (last week) I had a glass of wine. Gotta live right ? I will switch to vodka next time I think that is a better choice How do you get a blood meter to check for ketosis ?

(Ruthann) #12

Thanks for the birthday wishes and Congrats on the new house! You definitely needed to celebrate! I bought my meter on Amazon, but it is expensive to purchase refill strips. I bought the keto mojo meter (search on Amazon , you will find it). There are many others that might be cheaper, I just used the one Thomas Delauer has (I like his youtube keto videos). I only test it about 2 x week and I always come up with 3-4 mmol/L -which I am not sure if its too high or ok to hang around that number. .My blood sugar is always 81, so I am good there…I find conflicting info on that…find lots on too low ketones, but not on what to do if its higher than optimal (if anything at all). I have a tendency to be a bit obsessive so I try to keep from doing it every day…but some people have a hard time staying in ketosis so they might check it more often. Maybe I just won’t check it anymore and I won’t think about it…LOL.
