Workout energy

I have been doing the keto diet for one month and have made excellent progress, my energy during the day was fine before keto and is fine since keto. However, I have noticed during weight workouts my energy is down. So far I have attributed that to being a while since I was in the gym and my muscular stamina is not there yet however one month is a long time given my past experiences. Curious if there are diet steps I could take to improve that?

Not sure if you’re a coffee drinker, but I’ve found coffee with some heavy cream about 30 minutes before is awesome! Pick me up from the caffeine, and a little fat for energy.

According to Phinney and Volek (you’ll see them referenced often on these boards) sodium 30 minutes prior to a workout with a nice warmup period should help with exercise performance.

I’ve found this works for me, that and at least one set of low weights with low reps to warm up with on lift days.

Are you listening to the ketogenic athlete? Lots of good stuff there.

In addition to the sodium which is a very good point, you may just need more time as it’s unlikely you’re properly adapted to fat burning after just four weeks.

Thank you. I would never have thought about sodium before a workout. I appreciate the reply.
