Has anyone been able to drink wine on Keto and still manage to lose adequate weight? If so how often do you have wine and what kind do you drink? Thank you!
Wine
I’m pretty sure I couldn’t do that. I’m not alcoholic and almost never drink but I think my weight would balloon out of control with half a bottle a day - just a suspicion. People are definitely different. I will say I had a glass of red last Friday and it didn’t show up on the scale.
I keep my drinking down to one day a week (Saturday) I usually have about 10 ounces of Merlot red as it usually has the lowest carb count. I haven’t gone up on the scale, and being in Keto, the alcohol effects me more than it used to so I don’t drink as much. I love wine but I have cut down about 75% from my before Keto intake. I feel much better. Dry wines are perfectly fine on Keto, same with shots of vodka or rum…but definitely for me only in moderation.
Me too. 1/2 bottle of Cabernet. I am in week 7 and have been losing a pound a week. Maybe I could lose more quickly if I stopped with wine but that’s not my lifestyle. I’m trying to make Keto work with me.
Update - 3 glasses of red wine a few weekends ago showed up as 3lbs on the scale (all else was pretty equal). Took 3 or 4 days for that to come off. Assuming I retain water from it.
This is just me, not everyone reacts the same way but I’m 12 weeks in and down -32lbs. I’ll have 2 glasses of cabernet or 2 glasses of Hefeweizen a couple times a month when my husband and I go out on date night.
Here’s a little explanation not an excuse.
Date night for us is an important time for us to connect one-on-one because we’re both so busy. While I stay keto the rest of the time, date night is a few hours where I losen the reigns so my hubby and I can focus on eachother rather than my keto and where we can and can’t eat, and what I should and shouldn’t eat. I don’t go nuts, but I do give myself permission for those few hours to just go with the flow and don’t punish myself for it later. Its a few hours where I still make good choices with food, but I don’t carb count and stress myself out over it since I know my body overreacts to my stress levels. Some call it a cheat day, some call it not being keto and I know it has slowed my progress, but I’m still doing good so I’m able to live with it.
If your booze, whatever it is, is sweet at all, it has sugars in. Very dry (sec ) wines - usually white are the go-to for a low carb lifestyle, and try it as a spritzer with a carbonated water, 50/50. Or buy Champagne.
I stick to weekends for drinking, and on this keto diet have had to forgo my nightly nip of cancer-chasing ellagic acid in my whisky. I’m sad.
I have a glass of dry red wine nearly every night and have been for several years. I still drop weight daily when I’m on keto.
I can relate - my body recomposition keeps going while frequently drinking organic red or chilled white with my fatty-cheesy dishes many nights of the week. It’s been almost 2 years of keto - I don’t weigh myself, just measure - and I keep shrinking!
White wine has been used as a diuretic for millennia - and seems to help me significantly when waiting for a swoosh of excess water. I like it with ice cubes in it.
