Will you eat like this forever?

Title says it. Do you plan on eating Ketogenic/Lower Carb for the rest of your life, and maybe continuing IF/EF if you include it? What’s the reason for your answer?

(Allie) #2

I have no intention of changing things, no desire to go back to eating crap and feeling bad.

I’ve been on keto since mid-May. At this point, I don’t foresee ever going back to a SAD diet, and plan to keep calm and keto on! Also playing around with carnivore as I’m a big meat fan and some days only eat OMAD, which is a nice, juicy steak.

I find keto to be an exceptionally easy WOE and have no difficulty whatsoever sticking with it.

I IF 6 hour window and that’s been a cakewalk - so to speak - because I never ate breakfast anyway. Now I substitute tea for coffee as my AM drink, because I don’t like black coffee. So that won’t change.

I’ve been doing a lot of EF, I feel this is the key to my successful weight loss after the first glycogen / water rush of 10 pounds or so. I’m hoping when I reach goal I might EF only when necessary, with maybe 2 5-7 day health fasts every year. So far I really don’t know what constitutes a “keto maintenance diet” for me, but I’m hoping to explore that later on, when my weight has gotten closer to my goal.

And I do plan to go on avoiding processed concentrated carbs, artificial ingredients, industrial oils and as much as possible, non-organic ingredients. I’m toying with the idea of cycling keto and paleo with the seasons, mostly because I love fruit.

(You've tried everything else; why not try bacon?) #5

Since metabolic disease runs in the family, I have no desire to court it again by returning to my old diet. As long as my blood work stays normal, I’ll be keto! :bacon:

Over 6yrs low carb and 1+yrs on Keto and I have no reason to change anything. It truly is a way of eating for me now. Besides, like @Shortstuff said, I have no desire to eat crap and feel bad again. All that junk doesn’t even taste good anymore.

I have been this way of eating under different names for more than two years. Prior to that, I did not understand what a carb was, and never heard of a keto until less than a year ago. Neither was I interested, I am now very interested in all latest Nutrition Data etc. And grateful for the many links Videos, Science papers etc, I got from this site. I have seen and read them all, and all the links they have attached to them.
I have always eaten healthy or so I thought, often a portion of salmon, some new potatoes, side salad and 0live oil. Or brocoli, cauli, new potatoes.and some lean meat for dinner, porridge or cereal for breakfast Lots of fruit and nuts as snacks, five a day Go to the gym 3 times a week. But still be constantly in my case I was always a couple of stone overweight. The above are not soundbites, they were for real my daily diets. There is no way I should have been overweight, with such a healthy diet and constant excercise. Besides my job, I am am a Photojournalist, I am running all day long. From job to job, back and to the office, Often working late in to the early hours. That burns up a lot of energy, . But still a couple of stones over weight.
Some of you people may want to lose a lot more weight than that, but I feel just like you, I feel shit, and just like you I want to be heathwy, well actually no I don’t I want to feel “magnificent”.

Stable weight, for over a year. Started LCHF, discovered Keto, Currently Zero Carb, best enjoyable way of way of eating “Zero Carb”. Meat of any sort, Fish, Eggs, Cheese, Heavy Cream.
In my case I do drink dry white wine now and then, some times more than recommended, ( But remember I am not trying to lose any weight, I am old and like to live a little.) but I know the formula, and if I seen an increase on the scale, I would first cut the wine. Not interested in any other way of eating. Not trying to lose any weight as have reached goal, and maintained for over a year. ;Just eat healthy.
I originally joined this site for advice on how you more experienced folk thought how I was doing and help with the Math’s of macros etc. Will be ever so great full for your help.
My Answer to the survey, yes, everybody should be educated enough to understand the benefits of a Low Diet. And if I can just give my own opinion here, if you fancy becoming a warrior here just cut to the chase , sharpen your sword (Mind) and go Zero Carb, you will reach your goal sooner,.Eat meat, you don.t need the veg. Excuse me while I and go and get me hard hat. To protect me head from the incoming.

Yes, for the rest of my life and will do IF/EF as my body sees fit. I believe I have reached a stable weight/size, which is 15 lbs higher than my goal weight, but I can’t seem to go any further at this time. Oh, well. My health is excellent, and I think I look good.

I plan to retire in 7-9 years. I have every intention of being healthy in retirement and having stairs to climb in my house as I reach age 100 and do all the things I want to do in retirement and not be limited by poor health. Don’t get me wrong. I’m not an exercise freak and I don’t plan to run marathons, but I want to be in good enough shape that I can get down on the floor with future grandkids and walk/hike everyday. I look around and I see people younger than me having health issues already. I’m only 48!

Recently I started cycling from keto to LCHF and back again so I can have some fruit occasionally…it turns out, eating a whole piece of fruit is too much. I just need half a peach to feel satisfied. I will slip into and out of keto for the rest of my life and will down regulate and up regulate my food as needed.

Yes definitely have no intentions on ever feeling like shit again . I love how I feel way to much and the fact I can eat a big ass steak and not count a thing I’m in heaven I wish I had done this years ago when I barely left the couch due to no energy and feeling like shit about myself .

I prefer this over the way I lived before, burning my fingers with acid so I can soften the thickened skin and scrape it off before it cracked into unsealable wounds.

(Laurie) #11

I certainly hope so!

Good for me

FOR ME, It just takes a living DAILY reminder…from loved ones
Family members and friends

(Even going to see others at the gym “ appear to be like walking comatose zombies “ imho )

On how “ most “ they angst in food complaints, eat too much , not feeling good, some form of inflammation, lethargic, can’t sleep, and so on
Not all in regards WOE …I get it

But they, and not me, blame their WOE
yet “ choose “ to stay the course
To each their own

I just do NOT want to go back to the above

Been there , done that
DONE w that:sweat::joy:

I have always been an eat whole natural foods, avoid take out type guy. Never trusted what kind of crap was hidden in take out or processed food just for a company to make a sale. I guess it stems from my upbringing…home cooked meals.
For me to do keto didn’t mean changing habits…it just meant eliminating high carb choices from my natural WOE.
Keto might be difficult for some due to previous dietary habits, but it’s really a breeze for me.
Although… thank God I have a good dishwasher. I absolutely hate washing dishes.

I’ll eat LCHF/keto for another 200 years if I can. I don’t feel like I’m missing anything. In fact, if anything… its mentally empowering.

I get to eat most of the foods I love. I don’t have to count every bite I put in my mouth. I can still have wine and dark chocolate. I reached my goal weight and went further down, have stayed there for a year now.

Of course I can eat the way for the rest of my life, why would I want to do anything else. Heck I even enjoy my fasting days because I can not think about grocery shopping, cooking, cleaning dishes, etc. I can focus on me and read a book, organize my closet for anything else I want to do.

Keto/lchf rocks my world.

(Raj Seth) #15

Yup. Keto for Life. Keto for Living
Forever

(Katie the Quiche Scoffing Stick Ninja ) #16

Quite simply, yes.

(Ellen) #17

Yep from me. A year of Keto and I love the food, and I’m feeling better than I have in years, I’ve had a couple forays into carbs I used to love (crisps, chips & pasta mainly) and found that I no longer like them, sure I could force myself to have them, but why bother when I can have a juicy buttered steak??? Don’t get me wrong, I may at some point add in a bit more veg again but def not going back to the old me.

(Beth) #18

Keto freed me from the roller coaster of weight loss and gain. It freed me from the constant planning about how I was going to start my new diet tomorrow and lose all this weight. It freed me from being embarrassed about going out in public because of all the weight I had gained. It freed me from knee pain, reflux and worries about diabetes. So. . . no, I won’t be returning to that. Keto is so much less work!

(Charlotte) #19

It’s been less than a year for me so I can’t say for sure, but even if I don’t keep strictly keto forever, I can’t ignore what I know know to be true, and can’t imagine going back to eating anything resembling a SAD. Once I’ve stabilized and maintained my weight and health in a place that feels comfortable, I may experiment with adding in a bit more whole, unprocessed higher carb foods here and there (mainly I’d like to add fruit back into my diet maybe a couple times a week), but I’ll have to see what impact it has. I know I’m not willing to jeopardize my health gains or weight loss, though, and as a 40-year-old who has been overweight since pre-adolescence, keto is the ONLY thing that has both worked and felt sustainable for me in the long term, so I can’t see myself ever straying terribly far from it.

(David Taylor) #20

I’ve seen to many documentaries now showing how bad carbs can be and the benefits of fat and fasting. I can’t see me going back now.
I am not dieting. I have changed the way I eat.
