So I’ve done keto several times in the last 4 months and am wanting to get back into it after being off the last month. I’ve watched some videos saying just consuming mct oil will push you into ketosis in 2-3 days. Where before when I did keto diets it took me about 7 days to enter ketosis using blood test meter. Anyone tried this? Also would it be safe to just consume mct oil for couple days?
Thanks for the help
Will mct oil speed ketosis?
As long as you’re never more than 100 yards from a toilet!
You could supplement extra mct into your cooking or coffee. I think the biggest thing while adapting other then keeping your carbs under 20 grams, is staying hydrated and getting enough salt, vitamins, electrolytes, etc. You’re body is going to be flushing out massive amounts of water and with it goes all those other essentials.
Just my 2cents.
Right that’s what I did before, I just want to speed up the process. For me the first week sucked until I got into ketosis. Which is why I’m wondering if this can speed it up?
I think the fastest way to speed it up would be to burn off all excess stored sugar. I could be wrong, but I imagine the fastest way would be water fasting.
Yeah I’ve heard that too, deplete the stored glucose helps speed it up. Not sure how accurate that is as my last 2 keto diets took a week and I was on almost no carbs. But it does make sense.
I was hoping some on here may have tried and have first hand knowledge of it. I think even on the mct oil bottle it says gets you into ketosis faster. But maybe that’s marketing who knows lol
Going low carb before ‘going keto’ will help minimize adjustment symptoms. LCHF/keto is a way of life, and the benefits of being fat-adapted make for more metabolic flex anyway, as mentioned in some other posts here - there’s a range of carb intake that maintains ketosis as defined by Atkins and others - or staying on the ‘cusp of keto’ as Dr. Eades called the desirable state… after the first 2-6 weeks, anywhere from 20-150gram total carbs - and one person’s ideal state related to ketosis and hormonal healing may be different than anothers’ depending on pre-existing conditions, degree of metabolic derangement and degree of endurance athletics and/or resistance strength training.
And, one can take 2 tblsp coconut oil in fatty coffee and get a days’ boost of MCT just fine in my experience. It’s much cheaper, and less processed, which I like.
Also, being that the good bacteria in the colon feed on veg fiber & resistant starch and then produce enormous amounts of butyrate which then fuels ketosis, attending to microbiome healing can boost ketosis of its own accord. Couple that with coconut oil, and the HGH of IF & slow resistance weightlifting and it makes for lots of neurogenesis and shapeshifting!
Exercise will help clear the glycogen out of your muscles faster so you can use other fuel sources sooner.
It doesn’t take more than a few days to get into ketosis. It’s the fat adaptation that will take longer. How to speed that up?
