I get this all the time and even more so now that I am carnivore, “oh you can have a little bit of…”. I just finished a week of vacation and it drove everyone at the table crazy that I can order a meat that comes with fries. I eat the meat and let others eat the fries. I get “how do you do that?”
Why can't people just be supportive?
Why? People find fries tastier than meat or what? Or just they can’t eat meat alone, I live with such a person (and vegetables won’t do, it must be grains or potatoes). Well, we are different, what a novel concept, and subject to change too.
Agree 100%. Being lawyer-like about it usually gets people to be quiet.
“Eating keto is unhealthy? What specifically about it is unhealthy?”
If you’ve done your homework, then you can address any objections they have: “but the saturated fat…” … “protein hurts your kidneys” … “the body needs 100g carbs per day or your brain will starve”
Depending on how much they know, you might actually be able to dive into a real conversation about the ups and downs, rather than alarmism and fear!
You don’t launch into a lecture about how the fries are most likely fried in high-PUFA oils, and the many deleterious effects of those?
and fast food oil…ugh…
blurb from fast food chain: If it was an especially busy day, we might change the oil as many as two times a day . If it was slow, it might be a week. It just depended on the amount of business and exposure of the oil to food, water, frost, etc. The more oil is used, the more it breaks down.
AND WHO are we kidding here people LOL be lucky if alot of restaurants change it 1 time a month LOL
and alot of places are worse than that. chains have to be more strict on their policy kinda, but owners by themselves, man what we are eating if we could see the kitchen…oh man, I gotta stop this pic in my head now HAHA Don’t be thinking you are getting that fresher oil either…ewww.
Wow, you’ve done great and look fabulous and happy!
Oh, my family members think I am just plain wrong. Having so many overweight/obese members of my family, I thought keto would be great for them, too. In the beginning, I explained what I was doing, how I was eating, and how happy I was with this WOE. It was my miracle and I thought keto would be the answer that they had been looking for as well. For me, I was just lucky enough to have stumbled upon it. WRONG. I quickly stopped saying anything about it - to anyone. Hasn’t seemed to matter. It is them who bring it up now from time to time with me, reminding me how reckless and unhealthy it is, meanwhile, they have basically given in to their obesity and just treat the symptoms that it causes. I feel bad for them, but I’m not going there any more. The seed has been planted and that’s enough for me now.
I saw that headline as well and girded my loins for someone to bring it up.
You just gotta laugh. Why does everyone care so much what we are eating!
“Simple … I don’t move my hand to pick up the fries or put them in my mouth. Literally nothing to it!”
Of course they mean, “how do you ‘resist’?”
But as long as you can eat abundant high-fat / high-protein food, it doesn’t matter.
I think they feel threatened by people doing something radically different from the herd.
Yes, resist. My wife is ketoish and gets more strict if weight goes up. While dining out she will always want me to get the fries other wise I would tell them to hold them so I don’t waste. In the beginning I would catch my hand reflexively reaching for them and need to stop myself but now its easy
