Why can't people just be supportive?

(K-9 Handler/Trainer, PSD/EP Specialist, Veteran) #21

Others who are used to being led by “authority” see what we are doing as an insulting but silent indictment of their self-induced shortfalls and failures. How can the common layperson go against the authority… and succeed, right?

They don’t want you to be correct. How dare you fix your suffering relatively quicker and easier and not suffer like they are!

Pessimistic and cynical I know. But true.

Can we make a list of MDs who have been low-carb for more than three years?

Steve Phinney
Tim Noakes
Eric Westmann
Georgia Ede
Bret Scher

Join in! Add five more to that tally…

I’d suggest a better response would be “if it’s OK for a year, why don’t you try it FOR A YEAR and see how you like it then?”

(Marianne) #24

No, it doesn’t. Just gets annoying and tiresome. I don’t say jack to anyone about what they are or aren’t doing, except to be positive.

Speaking of pudding, the Maria Emmerich cookbook we got has a great chocolate pudding recipe, made from…hard boiled eggs.

And let us not forget that Crisco put them on the map, with a massive donation in the late 1940’s, and the AMA has been showing its gratitude ever since.

I so must try that… I found the recipe. Of course I do it carnivore-ish so it may not be the same
I keep finding simple eggy recipes I would never thought of…
Today I made soufle pancake. I am not quite there yet but soon…

I finish my totally offtopic now

Paul, that’s always such an “Ouch!” for me… :slightly_frowning_face:

I usually just laugh and say ok or give them a backhand. It’s harsh to call them fatso but I can’t say they didn’t have it coming. Sometimes people need to be kicked right off their high horse.

I needed to add : This was true until recently, but now they mostly use a data base, where they plug in symptoms and get the drugs thrown back at them…

AMA defers to the Mayo Clinic for more information. It’s still about heart disease in their eyes.

Mayo’s verdict: While the ketogenic diet may be recommended for some people with uncontrolled epilepsy, the high fat content — and especially the high level of unhealthy saturated fat — combined with limits on nutrient-rich fruits, veggies and grains is a concern for long-term heart health.

Here is an AMA infographic (it has nice layout)

It’s from here (Journal of the AMA): https://jamanetwork.com/journals/jama/fullarticle/2759475

Respect their authority.

Wow.

(You've tried everything else; why not try bacon?) #33

Oh, come on, you know the ketogenic diet is unsustainable and is going to kill us. (Though I can never figure out if it’s going to kill us before or after we can’t somehow manage to keep eating this way, lol!)

When I changed my way of eating four years ago, I was excited and just knew it was perfect for my brother and some friends. Now, I know it’s a personal choice and don’t offer anything unless specifically asked. It wasn’t that they thought I was wrong, but they wanted a magic bullet - a pill, a drink, just changing the way you eat must have seemed too simple. With the internet it’s easy to cherrypick information, I’m gonna go with my doctor. He’s a naturopath and tells me everything is perfect. He’d like me to eat less meat, drink fewer BPCs, but other than slightly elevated cholesterol, my numbers are perfect. And I don’t miss that hundred pounds.

That’s a wonderful set of before and after pics. Congratulations!

(And don’t worry about the cholesterol. My LDL came back a bit high after I’d been keto for around eight months, and my doctor, who was quite supportive, said it wasn’t an issue. All my other numbers were excellent.)

(Bob M) #36

That is a great set of pictures!

My LDL is – dare I say it? – “low”.

(Laurie) #37

You’re looking good! Big difference, huh? Thanks so much for sharing your success story and photos.

#39

I saw this today and thought there must have been some underlying issue for sure

(Susan) #40

You look fabulous, so healthy, energetic and radiant. That is really terrific. Congrats =). You are a great inspiration to all of us still on the road to success.

Thank you! Though I just turned 69, I’m healthier and more active than I’ve ever been. Believe I’ve added years to my life, certainly upped the quality.

Thanks, again, best to you.
