Why am I so hungry today?

I have been doing well with this woe but today (start of week 2 roughly) I am so darn hungry I don’t know what to do. I’ve eaten more today then I’ve been eating normally, but dang nothing is satisfying me. Does this happen normally?

As you adapt to keto, it absolutely happens. That’s a good sign it’s working. It’s not uncommon to feel hungry, or have an “empty” feeling not long after you eat because your system hasn’t gotten the carbs it’s expecting. At this stage, just eat when you’re hungry and eat fat.

Thank you. I was kind of surprised because I’ve been satisfied up until today but dang today I felt like I could eat a horse.

My first week keto was 3000 plus calories a day, 2nd and 3rd week were barely 900. Later weeks it evened out to 1800-2200 so, no worries. Eat to satiety.

My opinion on this is that your body is getting used to using fat for fuel, and it is starting to repair itself metabolically. So, it is repairing things that may not have been optimal for a while because it now feels a good strong fuel source coming in. So as it is repairing, it is asking you for more fuel to keep that activity going. So the important thing is to listen to your body carefully and feed it if it is asking for fuel.

If in doubt, eat fat.

Thank you Alec, that does make sense especially since I have been ill for a very long time. I have been dealing with multiple issues that escaped and confused many doctors. My husband (a very wise man who claims I never listen to him) has been telling me I’ll need to heal before I lose the weight. Thank you.
