Why am I so bloated

(Dee Eichler) #1

5 day into keto and constantly bloated. Had only coffee this morning and pants are so tight. Just had lunch eggs and aspargus and need to put my pjs on.

Hey! Keto usually reduces bloating rather than causing it. Can you share a little more about what exactly you’re eating? Anything that you’ve never really eaten before? Are you adding lots of salt? Do you take any medications? Also - is it bloating, or more stomach pains?

Asparagus can do that to me - I have to limit myself to small amounts of the skinny ones.

(Dee Eichler) #4

Definitely bloating, no pain or gas. Other than mct oil I haven’t added anything new. It was just odd that I bloated on an empty stomach

(Dee Eichler) #5

Also I am on heart, thyroid and cholesterol meds

From what you mentioned, I would suggest holding off on the MCT oil for a while. It can cause some serious gastrointestinal issues for some people, including bloating. If you had never had it before, it is the most likely cause. That’s the only thing I can speak (write?) into. There are lots of changes happening in that first week or two. Things definitely get a lot better!

Heart meds for CHF? Are you at risk of developing ascites?

Is edema or abdominal bloating a side effect of any of your meds?

Is your increase in electrolytes (salt especially) going to effect you differently based on your need for heart meds?

(Dee Eichler) #9

No, and I am a 67 female. No edema or pain just bloating in abdomen
I’ll stop the mct oil and see if it makes a difference

Your body is experiencing a die off of yeast, gaseous monster for a while.

Coffee can stop the bile production necessary for digesting fat in some people.

In my case BPC is a killer

(Allie) #12

Asparagus would be the likely culprit based on my personal experiences, I avoid it completely.

(Running from stupidity) #13

Wow, size discrimination even with vegetables.

#14

Only asparagus. All of the animals in my life are at least chubby

Ohhh! That’s it! MCT oil caused bloating for me when I first started using it. It doesn’t cause bloating now that I’m used to it. Just start with really small amounts; 1-3 tsp/day.

Hi Dee! I was just commenting on another post about bloating HEAVILY over the past week or so. I’ve even gained back a few pounds! I’m about 4 weeks in and the only thing I’ve added is MCT oil to my morning tea or coffee. I wonder if that’s the culprit? I decided to skip it this morning and for the next few mornings to see if the bloating goes away. I’ll report back any changes/updates.

Great, thanks
