This weekend I’ve been knocked back:
- great fatigue,
- sleeping for hours during the day,
- brain fog on top of brain fog,
- malaise.
(end of whine)
I’m hydrating and staying on top of electrolytes. I trust this phase shall pass.

I´m eight weeks in and had a terrible weekend and am still fatigued today. I know I am deep in ketosis but not to sure about being fat-adapted though. However… I am recovering from Chronic Fatigue and Fibromyalgia with all their awesomeness and I figured it could just as well be related to that. As I´m also sensitive to changes in barometric pressure (I am hypothesizing it is linked to inflammation) and we had weather changes the past few days. Could your symptoms be related to something other than keto? Not saying they are, but I think sometimes we are prone to put all our eggs in the keto basket. (Rather than frying them )
I just wanted to say that I really feel this way this week too. I’m glad you posted. I think we’re close in days on keto. I feel like I’ve been adequately hydrating and keeping up on electrolytes too (I drink broth during the day). But maybe not.
These are the things I did this week to help:
Started taking a Mg and K supplement.
Added in ACV too. No idea if this will help with this.
I made sure I added back in my veggies (spinach, broccoli, cauliflower). I noticed that I really cut back on these in the last week.
Bought and used Himalayan and Celtic sea salt. I’m really enjoying these.
I’m hopeful this will pass too. I hope you start feeling better too. I did some googling and scared myself into thinking I had overwhelmed my body with too much fat (or too much protein). I think this is probably not the case.
It will pass. I went through the same - had to go to bed in the afternoon for a couple of hours sleep.
There’s more energy waiting for you on the other side. Just KCKO
@Siddy, sorry to hear about your situation. And thanks for the question. Yes, I could have other things going on however muscle-testing (kinesiology) tells me my symptoms are carb withdrawal.
Thank you @MaryAnn for weighing in and for your support. Sorry to hear about your ickiness. It looks like you are taking effective action.
Thank you @MaryAnn. I’ve had more of these symptoms Saturday-yesterday. Today is better. It looks like I might be having a tough time adjusting.
I’m enjoying the food though!
How are you?
I’m glad to hear it. It happened to me too a few weeks into keto. Then I adjusted. I think I mentioned that I thought it was the salt. I bought better salt and took a supplement and my energy came back. (Or maybe I was just adjusting too. It’s hard to decouple these things.)
Hey there Christopher. In an odd coincidence I clicked on your profile, the first one I have looked at as I just joined this morning, and you are in Austin…so am I! I am not new to Keto but new to this site which I found on a post on Jason Fung’s blog. Are you familiar with DietDoctor website? It is a great resource. I assume you have given up grains…(if you haven’t consider doing it now). William Davis MD in his Wheat Belly books talks about the withdrawal from grains…specifically withdrawing from the gliadin protein-derived opiates present in modern grains, particularly wheat. If you detox off wheat and grains and then even have a little bit it will reactivate all the symptoms and the subsequent withdrawal all over again. Just throwing this out there. Hang in there.
@hillary1 welcome to the forums! Thank you for caring enough to share an observation and a resource for me. I am not familiar with the Diet Doctor website and will take a look. As for grains, as far as I know, I am off all sugars and starches. I’m averaging 8-15 grams of carbs a day, all from vegetables, cheese, or nuts.
The “as far as I know” part is an admission that I’m trying to cut out alcohol but have a bourbon or two or glass of wine every few days. I understand there is some controversy about whether all the grain stuffs are truly distilled out of liquor.
I do plan to hang in there. I am undeterred.
