Hi, all.
I’m new to these forums. I’m eight weeks into the ketogenic diet and loving it so far. I do daily OMAD at 4pm, and have completed two five-day water (inc. electrolytes) fasts.
I am looking to complete another, longer fast. I noticed that in the last five-day fast I did, it was much more difficult than the first one, despite the fact that I should be more keto-adapted by now. I’m wavering around 14-15% body fat right now, so I speculated that that might be the issue. I was having trouble getting to sleep during the fast, indicating to me that perhaps my body was telling me I needed food? To clarify: I am 75kg/165lbs, 15% BF, 6’1" and 24 years old.
On my reading on this forum, I came across the idea of a fat-supplemented “fast”. To my limited understanding, the idea was that as you get leaner, the body can use only a smaller amount of body fat as energy during a fast. Thus the idea of supplementing with dietary fat to make up for this deficit is intuitive. My question is: Is there a calculation for how much body fat someone with my measurements can use? If so, what it is? (I’m not too concerned with the debate over whether autophagy is lessened by taking in dietary fat during a fast, here. I just want to trial what it feels like to supplement fat, and potentially deal with that later).
My apologies if this has already been addressed in another post. I know I’ve come across it, but I can’t recall which thread it was in, and searching has got me nowhere. Thanks in advance for all the help.
