This is such a crazy thread. I grew up eating meat and veggies. Pasta once a week. That was a normal 1960s diet. With the exception of the occasional sweet potato. No euphoria there. My grandmother graduated Sargent school for girls in 1920. It was a physical education program. Everyone knew carbs were bad in the 1920s. So why does everyone think keto is new. It has been around forever.

@Regina If it’s any consolation I’ve never experienced anything unusual on keto. Well, OK, a lifetime of bloat, flatulence, indigestion and reflux disappeared within a couple weeks of starting. But no bright lights, visions, excursions into euphoria, etc. I have no idea what ‘brain fog’ means, so keto probably hasn’t cleared that either. Level of energy is about the same as before. Given I’m 74, that may be something. My retirement plan is a full-time job at Walmart. Oops, almost forgot. The floaters in my eyes seem to have disappeared. That’s something, I’m sure.
Long ago and far away I had some unusual experiences not drug related. So I’m willing to give some slack to someone who claims they’ve experienced something strange/weird until additional evidence of wishful thinking and/or the placebo effect are forthcoming.
That’s ok, I know you were just talking in general . I WISH I knew about it at 17, would have saved me from years of anorexia and disordered eating. There’s so much to learn.
Me too. After being very underweight 3 years ago, I started eating and couldn’t stop. Now I’m the heaviest I’ve ever been. I’m too embarrassed to see my weight obsessed thin family. I finally thought “Enough”!! I never want to go back there again. I do still have disordered thinking though. I lost 2 and a half pounds in 3 days and my silly stupid disorder head thinks it’s not enough. I know that people have said on here not to fear calories and I’m trying SO hard to work on that. I eat 1350 to 1250 a day on average, some say that’s not enough but I’m just not hungry. I have to force myself to eat.
Disordered thinking is a tough one, as it interferes with recognising satiety and hunger signals clearly. Those ‘natural’ skills need some relearning and that’s where a low carb physician could hopefully help.
Initial weight loss is water weight as the low insulin environment releases the available glycogen stores in the liver. The water follows the waste products from that. Body fat loss of 0.5kg per week will get everyone to where they’re going. If your body is metabolically damaged, it might divert the nutrients from your nutrition rich foods (make it so) to repair work. So for the first couple of weeks enjoy the highs, add salt and marvel at the lack of hunger. Read around the forums, particularly the women’s topics. As there is great stuff about boosting body fat loss by eating enough and good advice on aspects like that.
but don’t go down the crazy hole just yet In other words, being a new person to Keto…just do Keto!!
Just eat clean and well.
If one is coming into a new food eating plan for ourselves, and maybe coming in with a lot of tough baggage and shame/guilt feelings and ‘whatever’ of it all…(not saying this is you, this is a general thing I am writing here for many of us) we should focus truly just on the plan we are doing.
You read up on Keto Plan. You know you want ketosis, so that carb count of around 20 is key…be sure to eat good protein and fat and eat til you are full and happy. If you are full you do not need to force eat more…and FB is right. Thru many factors our signals can get crossed.
So as you eat cleaner and feel good doing just that, your signals start to uncross. You know your true hunger more. Your body starts to tell you want it wants when it wants it. Just slide into it in the beginning and let the changes happen for you
More any of us usually try to control/manipulate/take on fasting days too early in the change/and more we get funky’d up in the brain. We take on too many challenges to force fast change.
I learned all this the hard way LOL One thing I wish I can tell someone new and ‘they get it’ is just do the plan as intended. Just walk into a new eating plan like Keto and do it simple, easy, clean. Don’t focus too much on what other’s are ‘trying’ or experimenting with…they can be more long term people who have more control and can work on themselves a bit more in different ways that a newer person just can’t do yet.
So relax and chillax. I think opting for that ‘chill on the new plan’ and eat clean and good and let it happen for a while as you get a foot hold is so important.
With a fun personality like yours B…you got the gung ho to make this all work well for you!!
Awwww thankyou. You know, your absolutely right. Simples is best. I don’t want to fall down the Keto hole and became Aimee in Loopy land, I’m mad enough as it is . I won’t compare to others and just chillax like you said. Xxxx
It’s SO true. Us humans compare ourselves with everyone in every way. We totally shouldn’t. We are all completely special and unique with different genes, different ideas, different souls ect.
yea. I guess we are so bombarded at every turn in our lives thru tv, reading, social media, chat and more from every angle and we have SO much coming at us from every corner of the world…I mean how and when can one truly focus on ‘little old me’ and ‘do my thing’ as I see fit without constant influences.
Hey older I get I find I turn a deaf ear to a lot of it now. I have to for my own personal sanity. If anyone has other ways to keep ‘out the noise’ of crazy and influences out there, I am open to learning some new ones
My Mum is very into Buddhism. She went to a 10 day silence retreat where you spend 10 days meditating and you ain’t allowed to say a single word. She’s going back too. I wouldn’t mind doing something like that one day. Get in touch with the soul, rather than the ego mind.xxx
