I went to the Dr yesterday I asked for a ketosis blood test The Dr just called to say it came in at 0.3 I guess Iam not sure what that means
What should your keto blood work show
What he probably tested for was the presence of β-hydroxybutyrate (BOHB), and the result was 0.3 millimoles per deciliter (mmol/dL). This shows that your body is producing ketone bodies. Technically, the official definition of nutritional ketosis is having 0.5 mmol/dL of BOHB in your blood, but the researchers who devised that definition have admitted that it is somewhat arbitrary.
If you have been ketotic for some time, it is possible that your body has become sufficiently fat-adapted as to be utilising a high percentage of the ketones your liver is making, so 0.3 doesn’t necessarily mean that you are not in ketosis. The time of day when the test was administered is another factor that affects the reading. If you would be interested in tracking your ketone level at home and have the money to shell out, you can buy a home tester at the pharmacy. You can get strips for measuring glucose and strips for measuring ketones. I have to warn you that the latter strips can be expensive.
