A friend of mine (I know that sounds funny), has embarked on her keto journey but after a month is not getting much of a result. I am helping her with her diet but is an older lady who is experiencing hormonal changes. Would this have something to do with it? I know I experience slight differences in weight loss around my period. Thoughts? Science?

What role do hormones play?

Yes. Big time! If she hasn’t already, I would really recommend that your friend gets some blood tests to better assess what is going on inside. I would include thyroid in this list as it often gets thrown at this time and can have a big impact on weight loss among other things. TSH alone is no good though. She will need to get at least FreeT3 and FreeT4 to start with. If anything shows up, she can then look into antibodies and the like to get a better handle on it.
Purely on an anecdotal level, you hear it ALL the time, especially when you see male/female couples starting keto. The husband loses straight away - a good amount and fast - but the woman does not. Over time though, most couples balance out it would seem.
