I have gotten the recipe for homemade keto-aide, and that takes care of potassium and magnesium, but I need a good calcium supplement. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.
What is a good calcium supplement to take?
Calcium is increasingly controversial. There is a lot to research… here’s a start:

If you take it you need a raft of other things like D3, K2 and F to make it safe and effective.
After much research I have stopped takin Calcium and now take D3 and K2.
I don’t want to answer for Annalee but did you watch the videos? We get too much Ca (added to lots of things) and it generally does bad things to us. It is one of the many shames of the medical profession that they hand it out like candy without understanding the full biochemical pathways that mediate its application. ie it goes into the blood and soft tissue and NOT the bones for the most part.
I haven’t yet watched the videos, but I am going to, and do more research as well, I appreciate all of your opinions and weigh everything aI hear, thank you all for all the help!!!
What Capnbob said. I have been a nurse for 24 years but this is not medical advice. There is compelling evidence that oral calcium supplementation is of no value to bone health. Countries with the lowest rates of osteoporosis do not supplement with calcium nor do they consume milk after weaning as a child. They do, however, get much more calcium from dark green veggies.
Dr. Berg has some good info, but also look at Dr. Ken Berry’s info as he will quote specific studies to point you in the direction to make an informed decision. I also urge you to read his book only because he provides studies and books so you can look things up. The book is on Amazon, “Lies My Doctor Told Me.”
You can also search Pub Med.
Look for material that wasn’t funded by the dairy industry.
Warning:
I took a multimineral and a high quality calcium for several years, because of an osteopinia diagnosis. Then a year ago I sat on the edge of my bed and bent over to put on my shoes. I heard three ribs crack. An x-ray confirmed three cracked ribs. Bones can become brittle with the wrong ratio of calcium to magnesium. I no longer take added calcium. I encourage you to do more research.
Here’s Dr Berry’s YouTube video about calcium.
WOWEE!
That had to be super scary for you! I hope things have improved!
Fortunately, I was closely connected with Dr Carolyn Dean’s website at the time. One person interviewing her mentioned his own experience with brittle and broken bones and how magnesium helped him.
It’s fascinating how events are paired at the same time to ease confusion.
I now take her highly absorbable magnesium product and find it very beneficial. It’s my understanding that she thinks magnesium and calcium should be one to one, but you’d have to research her site to be sure.
Many cutting edge doctors are saying that 60-80% of Americans are deficient in magnesium. I suspect I have been deficient most of my life.
So are all of you saying we should avoid all calcium sources, or just supplemental calcium? I get plenty of magnesium but realized I get no calcium when keto, so I decided to eat a couple ounces cheese to get a bit more. Not a good idea?
I have just recently added all the mg of calcium up that I am getting in my diet each day with just “whole foods” alone. Sardines, eggs, broccoli, almonds, cheese, milk, etc…
It came to at least 1105mg Calcium per day.
I have also been taking 1000mg of a calcium supplement per day for the last 6 months.
I just put the calcium supplement away for now. What an eye opener.
what you are missing in that keto-aide is sodium . you need at least 5000mg a day.
