What “healthy” foods do you miss eating?

#41

Ohhh, risottos were wonderful…

(Doug) #42

Lots of things, but tropical fruits like mangoes and papaya. And really ‘gnarly’ brutally fibrous heavy artisanal-type bread loaded with big chunks of seeds and maybe nuts.

(Deborah ) #43

I miss hot, cooked cereal. I always loved oatmeal (especially!), Wheatena, 9-grain cereals, etc. Oh well, I can live (better) without it.

(KCKO, KCFO 🥥) #44

I would suggest you donate it to your favorite charity.

(Empress of the Unexpected) #45

Yeah, well, some of us still have fond memories!

(Empress of the Unexpected) #46

I remember that!

(Jovana Boros) #47

I miss sweet potatoes like most of the folks here, carrots and pineapple <3

#48

Pizza  My heart says that’s the healthiest food ever but my mind doesn’t agree

#49

I miss apples. On our farm, we’ve got a few heirloom trees, and damn, those apples were delicious! (As were the pies, crisps, and tarts I made from them as well.) I grow grapes as well, and miss nibbling on them. The wild strawberries…that one is a huge miss.

I miss potatoes. I grow a few different kinds, as the family enjoys sliced, fried potatoes with their steaks and burgers. I always enjoyed the baked, yellow/yukon golds or red potatotes. But on Keto, there are other avenues to consume copious amounts of butter. I just enjoyed the taste of it on a potatoe.

Rice…some kinds I miss. Brown rice, and barley too. Cooked cereals, like oatmeal were a favorite in the wintertime.

I miss eating chocolate- pretty much all kinds…not just dark - which was/is my favorite. I still swipe a piece of 88% from time to time, or some of the Lily’s- which isn’t my fav, but still okay. I continue to work with chocolate, because, quite simply, its my job. But, I have a test panel to defer the testing and tweeking to.

With the starchy foods, it could just be some of the texture that I miss. I’ve tried adding in sliced almonds in stir fry to kind of compensate for the loss of texture, and that works okay to curb the occasional craving. I’m nowhere near a point where I wish to splurge and try those things again, for fear of falling off the wagon again. Earlier on, I was tempted to take that “wagon”, haul it into the back forty, burn it and collect the insurance money to buy me some Reeses Pieces and Twinkies. I’m over that now. Whew!

Foods that are generally considered healthy that I actually miss:

  • Oat bran and oatmeal hot cereals
  • Bananas
  • Apples

(traci simpson) #51

I miss watermelon, apples w/peanut butter and blueberries.

(Karim Wassef) #52

I miss onions. I used to eat them in everything savory or spicy and in large quantities too… now I have to meter them out.

I also miss pistachios. Again - I can have a few a day but I used to indulge … bags full.

(traci simpson) #53

Oh and I also miss eating various nuts with cranberries in my yogurt!!! I miss honey in my tea in the Winter months.

(Stephanie ) #54

Watermelon, kiwifruit, peaches, cherries, and corn on the cob!

(Wendy) #55

I think I miss popcorn mostly but I have indulged once or twice since keto. I also miss watermelon and grapes. I did have a little of both but I’d eat more, and more often if the high sugar weren’t a problem.

#56

Beets. Carrots. Apples. Melon. Grapes. Peaches. Bananas. Corn. Beans. Seems like a long list of ‘misses’. What I DON’T miss are the love handles, disappearing back fat and gut!

(traci simpson) #57

I so hate back fat!!!

#58

Onions

(Bob M) #59

I still eat onions.

(Bob M) #60

That’s what I used to eat too. I don’t miss it, though, as I was starving 15 minutes later.
