What “healthy” foods do you miss eating?

(Susan) #1

We have all adapted to basically not eating sugar and not missing the bread, pasta, rice, potatoes (the high carb stuff) but I wondered if anyone is missing other things, like veggies and fruits that are non Keto. Plus, it is easy to have Keto replacements for all that sort of thing, which really helps too.

I personally miss Carrots and Apples.

I always have liked them, and didn’t really know they were bad for me until I joined the Keto lifestyle. I am following the rules very diligently and not cheating by eating them, but was just curious if anyone else misses these types of things too.

Sweet potatoes. 4 solid months of keto and that’s the only thing I’ve longed for.

Veg in large quantity, esp sweet potatoes, bell peppers (ok on keto but not 4/day like I like), snap peas, FRUIT OMG how I miss berries, grapes and cherries.
:unamused:

Thanks both for replying. I like sweet potatoes but have been okay not having them. I love peppers, still buy a 6 pack of the assorted coloured ones at Costco a week (but my girls eat most of them, I just use a bit). I use frozen raspberries in fat bombs and well love to eat 2 frozen as a treat in my eating times -thought in small quantities they are okay??

(hottie turned hag) #5

Oh for sure.
Thing is, I cannot eat small quantities of berries. I mean maybe if someone doled them out to me, I could but otherwise, nah fam.

(Susan) #6

Awww. okay. I would be like that if I cooked a Keto cheesecake, I would want to eat it all, so I just don’t make any! hehe.

(bulkbiker) #7

I only eat healthy foods… odd question…

(charlie3) #8

Talking about healthy foods ducks the issue of healthy diet. It’s the diet that impacts health, not individual foods.

(Susan) #9

My knowledge of healthy foods has changed dramatically since Keto. The foods that I thought were healthy before (the carrots and apples that I am missing) I realize now are not healthy… that is what I meant, sorry for the bad wording on my part. I just didn’t mean the processed foods that we all know are garbage for our bodies (even non Keto people acknowledge those things are bad for us even if they are not willing to give them up).
You are right though, both of you… I just meant well what veggies and fruits we are missing and worded it incorrectly.

(hottie turned hag) #10

Girl please your wording was A-OK

I guess we mean “healthy” (not healthy)!
For me, mangos, pineapples and cherries. Basmati rice and chips!
Although I have had 1 chip in the last 13 months and it wasn’t all that!

Thanks, Blue Violet =)

And, yes Jacqueline, that is what I meant. Thanks for all the replies, I was just curious as I figured we must all have a few of those foods.

Apples. lots and lots of apples

which, technically, given how few other carbs I eat on a daily basis, I could easily have half an apple and have zero issues staying in ketosis.

But i used to eat four or more apples a day. I love them. So it seems really cruel to only eat half atm.

I’m sure, over time, I’ll go back to eating more apples. But only about 2 mo. in I’m trying to be a bit more careful.

Watermelon. Gardeners around here grow amazing watermelons. Sprinkle a little salt on and there’s nothing better on a hot day.

(Marianne) #15

Me, too. I can’t even go there.

(Marianne) #16

I would love to have a binge on watermelon, but I’m not going to. And I miss apples, cantalope and pineapple. I enjoyed them before but rarely bought them. Now I miss them.

(hottie turned hag) #17

Nor me.
Can’t keep nuts in the house for same reason.

(Nasir) #18

I loved watermelon with black salt sprinkled on it especially on a rare hot day (in UK).

Loved other fruits as well, mangoes, peaches, bananas, guavas, other melons, cherries etc.

Also lentils and beans.

Juicy Pink Grapefruit and pineapple. I loved the ritual of finding a ripe pineapple and cutting it up at home - then maybe having a banana with it! Yum

Last summer I was putting watermelon through the juicer. OMG it was delicious. My poor juicer, all dusty and neglected. Alas.
